My county is still in the red phase of stay home, so I'm surprised to see an estate sale here in monroeville. So far they were online sales, but this one had "wear a mask" on the sign.

I'm not going to any sale cause I'm busy with lawnmowers and now a boat. Hoping to take 2 of my daughters fishing next weekend.

That’s a good deal!
I’ll take your word on the relative value of Dastra chisels, but if I was turning screws or stripping pigtails, and not hollowing out a mortise, I’m not sure I’d agree.
Undervalued tools do show up in bargain bins, which is of course why we look for them there.
Good eyes spotting them, and lucky you to have any sales happening within reach!

Was fortunate that this chisel filled a gap in my set. I'm at a point in life that I rarely find a missing piece from my sets. An hour or so to clean, dress, and sharpen it and it's in it's proper place in the set:

Thank You!@
LesserSon

Using it to Break down and Mount tires,

Starting with my riding mower tires, :lol_hitti

Just kidding. although I'm trying to find a set of tires for the riding mower that don't break the bank. Was hoping for some decent used tires but it seems they are not easy to find.

Cue the Sanford and Son theme song.

3 mowers, pressure washer with no attachment but looks like a nice briggs and stratton motor, a toro snow blower, and a bunch of 5 gallons bucket i was going to poke holes in for vegetable plants this summer.

All from trash pick up day. So let's see if me and the daughter can turn them around soon.

I have the same Hawk Tach/Dwell meter that came in a lot of tools I recently bought. Is this thing any good?

It's good if you are setting the old point distributor, but not sure if they can be used on anything else.

That lot of tools would be found in a old school shop for the old pre-fuel injection motors.

It's been 55 days since my last estate sale fix. When I saw this one was happening locally, with social distancing and masks required--but happening--with tools--I grabbed my vapor mask and hit the gas.

They wanted way too much for most of the stuff--trying to recoup losses from inactivity, no doubt, but there were things worth my time and I needed my fix!!

Here's what I came away with:

attachment.php

Millers Falls Screwdriver - $2
15" J.H. Williams Superjustable Wrench - $5
W. & L.E. Gurley Plumb Bob - $1
Battery Terminal Cleaner - $1
Neatsfoot Oil - $1
Welder's Gloves - Free
Firestone 3/8" Socket Wrench Set - $16

attachment.php

attachment.php

This is what the came inside the box

attachment.php

The set is complete minus the ratchet. The sale has the "T" handle for the flex bar so I'll go back tomorrow for it.

attachment.php

attachment.php

These are the "extras"
Plomb 5249 Pebble Ratchet
Proto L.A. 1212 3/8" Combo
Craftsman -VV- 3/8" 6" extension
S-K 45190 3/8" Universal
Proto 'R' 5/16" Socket
Master Mechanic (Taiwan) 1/4" Socket Set

attachment.php

Aahhhhhh, that feels good.

OR, GREAT find on the Firestone set!

If you are one of the guys picking up lanterns 'cause they saw me posting them, the Neatsfoot oil is perfect for the pump leather (or other leathers as well, I have a 2" wide belt that I wore in High School I still use for hunting/camping, and its always gotten Neatsfoot...)

Thanks thanks , yeah I asked him does it have a bar he's like what are you talkin about I said , the Bar that peels off the tires off with. But believe it or not it's actually built into the breaker. you must have to use like a spoon and flip it up over on this lip on there and then you spin that thing around and it peels the bead (s) off supposedly.
I have the Harbor Freight one as well but the Harbor Freight one is kind of flimsy you got to watch or you will bend the bead breaker on them. As you probably know. That's okay I have the Harbor Freight motorcycle attachment. I got a no more thing tool the yellow thing too and a no Mar bar and the Harbor Freight machine came with the motorcycle attachment and the no Mar bar and the yellow thingtool welded on a nice diamond plate about the size of a manhole cover lid for 75 bucks, I'll find some pictures of the Harbor Freight setup.
I just have to buy or make the no more attachments for the rim clamp and I should be all set. The bead breaker should be sufficient on the Harbor Freight machine for motorcycle tires.
Thats a nice find! did the bars come with?

I have smaller HF one but its not worth much except fro the 8 or 12" trailer tires...

I'd like one like that as I still - after all these years -find myself mounting tires or fixing flats...

Firesticks!
:lol_hitti

April, 2019. Classic 3bay three-panel Dwayne the Rock Johnson cartoon! Which led to the infamous Operation Plum and Firesticks raid across the Delaware! :)

You know you're in the middle of a pandemic-inspired slump when you're deriving Garage Sale thread joy from old reruns! :(

EDIT: On topic - I've never seen that style breaker bar before.

I thought they would be usable for my 61 Chevy truck.

I am AMAZED at what People will Put to the curb.
I got a Whole Free Lawnmower on time,
:thumbup::thumbup:

Hey, I gave my neighbor a good plain ol' push mower for no better reason that MOAO made my get her a self-propelled electric start push (or stroll behind) mower. His mower was clearly on its last legs- he didn't want to take it at first, but I told him if he didn't it was going to the scrapyard (true) -- made us both feel good.

I'm not a lantern guy, but I did pick up the Neatsfoot strictly because you had extolled its virtues several times and I wanted to give it a try on leather I have-so thanks!

Actually its "JUST NOT RETAIL" So buying new from an on-line retailer is same class as from a brick and mortar.

Now NOS, not from a retailer, say something NIB or factory packaging from an estate or yard sale, or maybe a thrift or pawn shop, that's definitely OK, despite the Brick an Mortar aspect...

No clue where your stuff lands... Just clarifying

Was snowing in the morning. Called the ad for yard sale and got a response that some tools were gone, but there were some left and I can take a look.
Decided to go. Mask and gloves, tools put in the bags and upon return home put in the garage. From what I know the virus lives on metal at least 7 days (I heard 21 previously, but was told that it was 7 by recent info). Thus for at least 7 days I can not touch it...

Picture 1 (partial list)
SK 1/4” SAE set in original box. Plastic is cracked, but everything is in good shape
SK green handle driver
SK 3/8” Ratchet with socket (1/2)
Wright 13/16 spark plug socket
Thorsen 5/8 spark plug socket
Craftsman –V- 13mm socket
Thorsen 3/8” extension
2 Crescent needle nose pliers
1 cutter (forgot who made it)
Snap On screwdriver (Snap On sign rubbed off, the other side partially preserved warning)
4 Auto kit ratchets (will see how much rust will come off)
Bell system needle nose pliers
Diamond adjustable wrench
Wrenches are rusty and oxidized. Coupe of tiny ones and one of bigger ones are Barcalo
Picture 2-4
Billings 909 1 ½ wrench
Mitutoyo Vernier Caliper CD-4”P (will have to check if it works. I hope it’s just a battery – no obvious damage)
Made in West Germany Vernier Caliper
Picture 5, 7
Bondhus ellen wrenches (one set incomplete, couple of extras)
SK ½ ratchet – works, but unfortunately was dropped somehow with damage to the body and handle. Was given for free – might use internals in the future
Channellock (corrected from Crescent) light blue handle pliers
Wiss metal snips
Couple of no name tools
Gasoline can – will have to look up the name, looked cool and vintage. I doubt I will ever use it, but after seeing some of absolutely amazing garages of GJ members, it shows that similar pieces sometimes give amazing detail accents to the garages...
Please let me know if you know the original purpose of these cans

Picture 6
Craftsman Sears incomplete set.
What is unusual, part of the set is –V- (long sockets and swivel), the rest are –G-… Possibilities include replacing part of the set if some sockets were lost or is possibility that Sears was competing sets using new old stock sockets
V is Easco, ca. 1968 - 1986 perhaps as late as 1991 as NOS
G is Danaher 1990+

Tried to use precautions (surgical mask (not N95 though), gloves, asked if anybody was sick...
I get much more potential exposure at work...
Hopefully we all stay healthy and safe!

So it's Bulk Pickup in a local townships around here and that township DESPISES people scavenging the piles people put out. They actually have the trash hauler coming daily to clear piles to keep all the "white vans" from coming around scavenging. Anyway it was a good day for the family . . .

I found 3 cast iron skillets at the curb. In descending age we have an 8" Griswold chrome or nickel plated skillet, a 10" Wagner and a 12" Wagner "1891" commemorative skillet. I need to check them over and clean them up.

Later I found 4 x 120/240V rated foot pedals - 3 used and 1 new in box.

The last pick of the day for me was the Steelcase desk chair - sorely in need of a recovering. The current fabric is a recover that didn't last - most likely due to an incorrect padding selection.

I also picked up a bunch of various wheels and casters at the same place I got the foot pedals - most of them still in the mfg. bags.

Cheers

Jim

Recent auction buy is this 103.23140 Craftsman "100" 15-inch Floor Model Drill Press. Motor is dated 1950. Doesn't look like it has been used all that much, still was mounted on the original wood pallet. No arc of shame on the table. I need to bring a dial indicator home from work to check the run out, but I drilled a few holes in some aluminum and it looked good. Pretty sure I don't have the original belt, as the motor is right up against the housing. Under no load, there is a little bit of noise in the main pulley, I may have to replace the bearings at some point. Paid 110 with commission, not my best deal, but I was happy with it.

Well, there were a couple estate sales over the last few days as things start to open up here, so I headed out and found treasure:

Highlights include a MAC metric hex socket set ($5) Cornwell 24" 1/2 drive extension ($3) Williams refer ratchet ($2) long shaft MAC #2, a whole bunch of misc. US sockets (Proto, SK, Indestro, Craftsman Vanadium (!)) and a cute little Indestro mini screwdriver set.
