Great haul, Roy. My wife and I believe that the better the signage to a sale, the more likely it is to be a disappointment. That sure proved to be true at your last sale. Congratulations.

Hey now, Nines can't have my bomb table :)

Sales here have been slow to non-existent. But free stuff is aplenty. My favorite childhood (and beyond) hardware store recently closed and I've been stopping by and getting some neat things from the owner as they clean out. Very sad to see it go, but there's both a Lowes and Home Depot within a mile of it so I'm actually surprised it lasted this long.

Some small hardware cabinets, 20 Streater 3' x 4' heavy duty metal framed peg board panels, about 40-50 additional peg board panels, countless peg board hooks, and probably close to 200 Toledo / Toledo Beaver pipe dies...most new in box.

Also, I picked up a free mower from the NextDoor app.
Well done. Those Toledo dies are crazy to throw out. And all that peg board system. There has to be $1000s of dollars spent on that stuff.
Great haul, Roy. My wife and I believe that the better the signage to a sale, the more likely it is to be a disappointment. That sure proved to be true at your last sale. Congratulations.
-Don
Thanks Don. I am newer to garage sales as we usually do farm auctions around here. I am starting to learn some of the tricks of the trade.

Looking for a Plomb 3061 Pebble Open End.

Was not aware, what makes that size so elusive?

LesserSon...i miss going to Jake's! Of course I don't miss spending money there though!
I believe the consensus was the 11/16 was excluded from the packaged sets at one time and the set skipped from 5/8 right to 3/4 .
Here's some ebay sold listings while I try and dig a bit further.

Well things are starting to open up here in SD even with No stay in place ordenances.
Hit up a couple pawn shops and 3 garage sales.
Stop 1 pawn shop.
Duro arrow combo. Snap on and craftsman bit sockets. Craftsman crowsfeet. Proto 1/4" ratchet with some Wayne sockets. =V= stud puller. And the best pick of the this stop. A FSN wrench that was hanging on the wall. I have never heard of the brand. The shop keeper was reluctant to sell but ended up letting me buy it. $15

Stop 2 garage sale.
Snap on electrical screwdriver. Some socket rails for the Plomb wall and a weird xcelite drill speeder. Williams dog wrench. Stanley screwdriver. $3

Stop 3 pawn shop.
SK 1/2" X 3/4" adapter. Snap on socket, and a older craftsman sparker screwdriver. $2

Stop 5 garage sale and the best for last.
Next I spotted this massive plane union #8. I am not a plane guy but I thought I would try my luck. I asked how much. $5 I said I would take it.

From the woodworking side of the house, that is a definite low pressure area you are creating. At 10x it is still a steal, even if not a Union. It looks so tiny in that pic, I almost missed it. Can’t tell just how nice it is, but you could probably pay for your whole day flipping that to the right person.

Thank you both. Its dirty but looks intact and it's a monster. Here it is next to a 10" vise grip for size.IMG_20200529_192501117.jpgIMG_20200529_192509757.jpeg

Nice, the only apology I see is the tip of the tote (handle) is missing. A bit of rust removal, probably some sharpening, and you might be good to go.

Oops! Sorry about that Merc. He must've been wondering what the heck I was talking about!

As I'm sure you've been following these threads longer than I've been here, it's probably easy to confuse. The "bomb table" was actually a topic of conversation the first time I met Nines and part of the reason I went down this deep, dark rabbit hole.

His post regarding that:

So that got me looking, as I also have a 6pc set, which I thought was complete for the era. The first time the 11/16" shows up is in the 68 catalog, so there are a few =V= 11/16's out there. Something else to add to the search... Individual ones seem to be listing at 10-15, regardless of size. There are a couple of "sold" for 50+, but I am going to call BS on those, as they dont seem to be anything special...

There were three good looking estate sales nearby on Thursday. So, off I went. Well, the first on wasn't too good, but I picked up a few things

Snap-on 3/4" t-handle minus the bar, speed driver, Bog 1/2" t-handle. Just an OK sale, there was other stuff I was looking at, but too expensive. $8

Next one was a ranch with electronics shop attached. A lot of 80s CB stuff (a lot!) and VCR repair parts. But I did pick up some good stuff

Belden connector set (full of coax fittings) Misc. sockets (Long C, WWII SK, SR, D-I) long shaft Xcelite (orchard park), and an Xcelite tool roll. $10

Last sale was a random why not? But it was pretty good

Heritage box, with 9/32 drive (Snap-on, Hinsdale, Williams, Plomb, Armstrong) and WWII 3/8 sockets (Snap-on and WF) a Stanley sweetheart driver, Craftsman Vanadium adjustable. $17ear,

As far as Roys theory about poorly marked sales, yeah, that happens. But just as often it will be signs from a week earlier, or baby toys. But I have had some great finds like that.

Nice Danielson Craftsman bmw, and 9/32.

Mr. Olson looks like you got out there and did quite well! Plane, Grips, etc..

Nice to see everyone getting out.

LS, great photo. What year is that? The old b&w checkered floor reminds me of some place.

I’ve been resisting the urge to go tool hunting lately.

Good to see some movement happening somewhere! It sure isn't here!

Another Eprey find came in yesterday - another lantern. This one is exactly as old as I am (not reveling) and that is why I bought it. I don't usually buy 2 mantle lantern anymore.

I know the 220 came in the same month/year, but I'm not interested in the 220 (short brim and really boring to me) So now I have a 200 and a 228 wide brim as Bday lanterns. Both in amazing condition! I think I'm done for a bit, other then the odd part here or there,

This is a really nice 228E. It even has period correct original globe (marked Pyrex on one side and has the Coleman rising sun, emblem on the other - I had to buy the globe separately for the 200...)

I can't say I stole this, but I did get it for less than expected even including shipping, and I also expected to get outbid... It came in $7 under my high bid, whereas for the 200 I was maxed out to the penny on the bid...

This one should require no more than fuel and mantles This is right out of the box:

I stopped in on a yard sale this morning as SWMBO and I returned from the town birthday parade. Lots of newer tools (Husky, Ryobi), but nothing that made me want to part with any greenbacks. I long for a good estate sale!

Hah, Merc if I wanted that bomb table I’d have it by now!![emoji41][emoji41][emoji41][emoji48][emoji1787][emoji3590]

Sweet Coleman Outlaw!!! I just got a 220e NIB along with a bunch of other **** from a huge pic this morning. Totally stoked, we got the tarp and everything on it packed inside my Trailblazer.

Edited: the Coleman stuff is not new in box, just well taken care of in box. The lantern is marked ‘57 and Merc said the stove is probably ‘54-62.

Is there a Jerry Can expert in the house? I have a few different markings on these cans. QMC on a couple, US instead of USA on one, one has a plastic vent and cap.

What gauge are they? :pimpflash

Sorry Nine I think you may have missed the "Jerry can Wars" :lol_hitti

Pics of the bottom markings will get you a ton of info on these - year made gauge, Mfg, etc...

At the risk of angering the anti Jerry can group, I’ll make some suggestions. Check the bottoms of the cans. Generally that is where the information is stamped. The QMC stands for Quartermaster Corps and is likely the oldest one. The first number is generally the gauge, the second number is capacity in gallons and the last number is date of manufacture.

Nice, thanks guys! I see I have two 1943 cans, one 1953, one 1969 and one 1989!

Edit, one of the 43s has Wheelings and numbers on the bottom and the other has the numbers stamped under the handle on top.

Nothing of note here in S.A. either. Yesterday I drove an hour northwest to Kerrville for this small haul. Unfortunately for all involved, most of the tools were set out in the yard on tables the day before and that night a big storm blew through--trees down and store signs damaged, etc. The efforts of the sales folks to protect things from the rain were mostly ignored by the storm. A lot of soggy tools and the rust monster pounced hard!

I dug through a can of Craftsman sockets to get these -v- & -vv-, many of which still had the original store price sticker on them, but since the can had an inch of water in the bottom, as soon as I touched them, the stickers tore or slid off. $4
A nice little 4" Long C Craftsman Vanadium adjustable to match bmwrd0's recent 6" find. $0.50
A 6" Craftsman wire wheel. $0.50
A Holo-Krome No.22 Hex set. Only about half the wrenches are marked with HK. $3
A Lufkin 6' tape given as a safety award in 1957 for 1M man hours at DOW Texas Magnesium Dept. $0.50
Long C Craftsman 6' Dial Scribe tape. $1.50 This is my second tape of this type. First was stamped only Dart Mfg. Co. Mason, Mich and had rules on both sides of the tape so you could use it as a traditional tape measure. This CM is only marked on the under side of the tape so you must use the window on the top of the case to read it.
4 piece set of sanding drums (probably HF) $3
And the cream of the crop, an L.S. Starrett HY530 50' tape measure in really excellent condition. $1.50

Picked up this Dremel saw kit early this morning at a garage sale. Got it for cheap because it was covered in grout dust. Spent about an hour cleaning it up and it came out pretty good!

There was an extensive discussion on the gas can subject last year on the Garage Sale thread. Search terms could include "can" "gauge" and the more obvious terms.

Here you go Jeff, nothing special. The estate I got it from had an electronics business, it looked like a pretty serious one back in the '80s. Lots of early coax stuff, CB, VCR and so on.

Don--
Thanks for posting a your set! Yours is in better shape than mine--no placard, only four original HK stamped keys (including the mangled one) and no paint.

Your placard indicates nine key sizes. Did all nine come with the set? Are all of your keys stamped HK? My largest looks original but doesn't have the stamp so I doubt it is. The tools in the lid were also in the box but are unmarked except for the long silver one which is a CM -v-.

More pics from today’s haul. We sold the king kooker, brown drop side table and a couple flower pots to basically pay for the day, buy charcoal and steaks for dinner that we cooked on the free Sunbeam and ate on the free table we got today under the open sky! Today was beautiful, I hope everyone had a great day!b0c704a2836d65acacb82588553b849a.jpg

I’ve gathered up a lot of hex keys while putting together my WW2 sets so when I found the box I think it only had a couple of HK keys but I was able to complete it with correct HK keys from my spares. I preferred using keys with the entire name spelled out.

I’ve gathered up a lot of hex keys while putting together my WW2 sets so when I found the box I think it only had a couple of HK keys but I was able to complete it with correct HK keys from my spares. I preferred using keys with the entire name spelled out.

Thats a very cool set Don!

Anyone got a pic of the content list for a HK No.33 set? I have that box, but the set is apparent quite a bit bigger?

Oh great. Thanks Don. Just what I need--add digging through hex keys to find full-name Holo-Krome's.

Archive.org doesn't have any HK catalogs and I'm still wondering if the No. 22 set came with all nine keys mentioned on the placard, and when the set was offered.

Old Radar, I got to the estate sale in Kerrville also but I was there before you. I picked up the =v= stuff and left the other Craftsman pieces since I was just grabbing them as trade bait for a friend. I did find a few other things also.

Bought a bunch of stuff from a retired technician today, this was from his private collection. Never used.

The Early Tin Medic gets the worm, dammit. Nice haul. I didn't think about going until after a late breakfast. Didn't actually get there until about 1300.
