This box popped up on CL yesterday ending my tool drought. At first I thought it might just be the remnants of an S-K 4088 socketchest set (see d42jeep's in the Vintage S-K Tools thread) but it turned out to be mixed bag of decent stuff. Some Bonney, Billings, BluePoint, Williams and S-K wrenches. Most of the 1/2” and 3/8” sockets that would have been in the S-K 4088 set. Some Craftsman (Circle H). The box has a lot of surface rust on the outside. Inside is in excellent condition. I’m not sure with the badge placement of the box where it fits in the S-K production timeline but the handles are black and held in with slotted machine screws. Mid 50s or earlier is my current guess.

Very nice. I have one of those boxes as well with an almost complete master set and still a very treasured tool box for me. They are very well built.
Nice hauls gentlemen!

Smoke I just picked up the same CM speeder and it's the corroding of the aluminum and the subsequent loss of chrome that gives it that two-tone look. Mine has just a hint of it.

The rest of yesterday's haul:

J.H.Williams 1/2dr S-52 Superratchet
Proto 1/2dr 10" extension #5463
Proto 3/8dr 12" extension #5262
Proto Challenger 3/8dr Universal #1280
Proto R 3/8dr Screwdriver Socket #5240
Proto Challenger 3/8dr 2-1/2" extension #1265

$7.50 for the group.
$3 for the CM Speeder
$2 for a gallon can of Mineral Spirits

Those look in amazing shape. That proto bit socket is a rare one I think.

Yuo guys are smoking it!

Shelby, I'd keep that amber piece on the ratchet. those are EXTREMELY rare! I've NEVER seen one in the wild...

Thank you for advice, Outlawmws. Once I get a little bit of time, will clean it up and let it join Husky of similar age (Now I will need to find New Britain version as they made them all)

Picked this up today off FBM. Worked out quite well. Haven't gone through it yet I follow up with what I find. It's a bit to go through and quite a mix.

Saw this for $10 on Facebook and couldn't resist even though I didn't know anything about it. From some quick googling it looks like these were sold by gas stations during the 40-50's as "easier and safer" bumper jacks.

Saginaw screw drive bumper jack. Has the number 5660986 cast into the lift arm.

The turning arm and the base appear to have been originally red. It works perfectly as far as I can tell but don't think I'll try lifting a car with it.20200720_152550.jpg20200720_152624.jpeg20200720_152649.jpeg20200720_152745.jpg

so I got a 10 inch Westcott S adjustable made by Keystone MFG for $3 at the flea this weekend.

But.. but... but... I wanted one of these Johnson/Humphrey stickers just for "atmosphere" in my tool display, and the guy said $1. Apparently, that was for the whole box! There are hundreds! 1964!

I saw an ad for a grinder stand on Craigslist for $20.00 that had no photos. I called, and the seller said it was "cast, and quite heavy." I took a chance and drove 20 miles to see it. When I pulled up the stand was sitting in the driveway, and looked good to me. When the seller walked out of the house, I recognized him as the owner of the airplane hanger next to mine at a nearby airport. We have known each other for 35 years!

Of course I bought the stand for his asking price. I am mounting that big 1 HP Black and Decker grinder I bought earlier this month on it. :rocker:

I like those wrenches. I pick up the 8" and 6" last weekend. I added them to my wall beside my 12" and 10" versions. I couldn't imagine carrying one around back in the day. They are stout!

How many sizes did they offer them in?

Weekend before last I picked up a 3-drawer Craftsman red & gray middie at my first 2020 Pandemic estate sale. Paid $43.30 after tax, a price I was happy with. Here are the few tools in the box.

Dewalt unopened pkg of torx bits, device for laying out circles (no brand, feels cheap, might be useful though), misc files for scrap, wire brush, die grinding bit, Milwaukee -USA- arbor, Lenox (red) hole saw bit & arbor, Milwaukee hole saws (white), mushroomed Wizard cold chisel, 3 punches (2 CMan), Stanley Yankee No 130A made in USA driver with hard-*** plastic handle, 13.5" Xcelite slotted driver, 11-pc Chinese punch & chisel set and an Irwin Lockhead No 2 expansive wood bit with original pkg in super condition. I was super excited to finally find a middie and to have it match my 12-drawer top & bottom was icing. Now, I'll add the Irwin wood bit, Xcelite driver and the Milwaukee -USA- hole saw kit to tools I'll use. A large scoop of ice cream to go with that cake and icing!

Any thoughts on when the Stanley Yankee 130A was made? 70s?

There's also a 4 inch that I have not been able to run across. But I really want one.

You and a hundred other guys! Rare than hen's teeth in the wild. $100+ in auctions. There's also a 14 incher. 14, 12, 10, 8, 6, and 4. We have a Keystone thread. See the Index in the stickie at the top of the Vintage forum. I just found a 10. I need a 14 and 4. HeelSpur only needs a 4. Mikeswrenches just posted a 4 a few weeks ago. See page 2 and 3 of thread.

duds, those stickers are great. I can recall my Dad closely following that '64 election. Being from Texas you can guess who he was pulling for.

Nice find! I keep searching locally for more gray with red drawers craftsman toolboxes but they are hit and miss.

Yeah I'm happy with it. Had just enough time today to sort the wrenches.

Here they are.

Just beat a summer rain storm to bring home this single item from the flea market (Lugz 2020_26) this morning. I see so many early little hex wrench sets that I normally don't even bother picking them up, but the L-handle inside this side-hinged oblong shaped box is marked 'Indestro Chicago', and I am used to seeing Indestro sets in those open style metal cases that are hinged or where the L-handle keeps the sockets in place, which they patented. So, something to read up on or ask 4.c about.

And I have two interesting but way-too-rich-for-my-blood items in the LEFT-BEHIND category for my fellow pickers, today...

An angular knuckle-joint bit stock drill patented by Millers Falls in 1875 (see Pics 1 & 2) and a 1942 Navy compass (see Pic 3). Now look closer at the name on the compass and think model trains. Yup. They were converted to military production during WWII.

I love corner drills/braces and those crazy angle joints like that. There is really some amazing engineering in them.

And the Lionel piece is pretty cool as well. Looks like they built some quality stuff.

I hit a couple of interesting sales yesterday, with good results:

First sale was the farthest away, and looked so interesting that I was willing to do a bit of driving. Well, there was a lot of interesting things there, but I kept my wallet tight and so only spent $20 (seriously, if I had more room here I could have spent a lot more) and picked up an unmarked Snap-on 1/2 ratchet (turns out it was used in Greenlee ratcheting chassis punch sets, and has a detent pin instead of ball) Proto Professional 1/4 ratchet, two Proto pebble clutch drivers, Dunlap ignition wrench set (someone painted(?) it). But there were vintage drill presses, a non-working Baldor I thought hard about (might go back for at some point, see if it is there on half-price day) Wrenches up to 2-5/8" size, and so on. A good sale.
Next sale had tools, but mostly homeowner type stuff. Picked up the Snap-on valve adjuster and Goodell Pratt push drill. And last sale had good stuff, but way overpriced for me. Lots of brand new, full polished SK, but he wanted almost retail for it. But I found the P&C 16oz BP for a couple bucks and went on my way.

It's been a while since I'd been to my friendly local recycling yard. Glad I stopped by today. :)

They had this Morgan vise sitting there just waiting for me. :rocker:

$30 bucks later and I was on my way.

Tough day at the estate sale, for GJ related stuff: only the can of engine degreaser for $2. Other stuff will (mostly) go to a friend of mine in a couple weeks, but I'm keeping the big batter bowl, hehe, and undecided about the 1968-69 "Officer's Guide." I intentionally went late, and unintentionally missed a small Craftsman truck box.

OTOH, Uncle Sam came through in SPADES! I requested my two back issues of PS Magazine a couple weeks ago, and these arrived in today's mail. Issue 16 from Christmas, 1953 and Issue 69, from 1958. I think whoever pulled them off the warehouse shelves must have a sense of humor.

Anyone interested in your own PS Magazines, straight from Uncle, here's the gouge: https://www.psmagazine.army.mil/News/Article/2209917/own-a-piece-of-ps-magazine-history/

Haven't even gone thorough the sockets of the last box I got and picked up a storage locker auction and got this. Haven't sorted through but saw a lot of Blackhawk....
