Old Radar,
The little subscript letters following some and definitely not the majority of WF-** part numbers have never been identified. Factory designators (they had 20+ shops working for them...) is a popular theory.

Made a too big pile of things I didn't need but couldn't live without this morning for $80. My favorites are the folding draw knife and the Stanley folding ruler.

Are there other meanings for WF stamped on tools? I recently picked up some Craftsman part that had a WF stamped on it. Right now I'm drawing a complete blank on what tool it was.

I found this on the internet...

Western Forge is a USA-based hand tool maker, well-known for making screwdrivers – especially their clear-handled styles – but also pliers and other hand tools, for Sears and their formerly-owned Craftsman tool brand. Western Forge has produced tools for other brands as well.

The WF Western Forge markings are not connected to the WF Wright Field Military markings. This confuses people. I believe that the Western Forge markings started after the Military markings were no longer used in purchasing. There were lots of WF Military marked tools in circulation long after WWII.

Merc, is that a Coleman Peak1 stove? I have the same one I used back in the early 80's, and it still works great!

No sir, it's a 508B. Similar to the Peak 1s, and about the same size as the larger Peak 1. I have some around here somewhere. Every time I get rid of most of my Coleman collection I blink and it's back. :dunno:

It's hurricane season here. On the way to work I picked up a Coleman Powermate 1750 for $40. Starts on the first pull and looks like it was only used a time or two.

I hope everybody here is doing well in these interesting times. I've been going to sales here and there but I haven't been around here much.

Mess o' tools in today's flea market haul (Lugz 2020_29).

attachment.php

Pliers from top to bottom are tiny Wm Schollhorn BERNARD compound side-cutters, with the St Bernard logo, BERNARD needlenose (oddly, I have never seen forged Schollhorn pliers before...), gorgeous WWII GMTK-spec correct Fairmount 8" combo slip-joints, and Champion DeArment No. 417.

The knife is Boker Treebrand. Never heard of it.

Multi-screwdriver tool is J.A. Sexauer. (Who remembers the "'I am the Sexauer Man!" service box I found last year?) The spiral screwdriver is a 1908 North Bros "YANKEE".

Wrenches top to bottom are wartime Duro-Chrome Circle-X 1731-A, Herbrand (mutilated) "S" wrench, Herbrand 1829 5/8" Obstruction, Mossberg A-1 bike wrench, Bonney BONALOY starter wrench (5/8" x 9/16"), and a bigass Bonney "S" wrench (866C).

And before I go clean my haul, I hope LS doesn't mind me pulling my Hostus emeritus card to play a little game I like to call "CAPTION FUN". (Setting my timer to clock Smoke's entry...)

Husband: "It's a good deal, honey."
Wife: "But what gauge are they?"

Nice haul, Lugz!

Boker Treebrand knives are pretty well-thought of, and tend to do well on ePrey. I bought one (different configuration) several years ago to flip, and have been unable to even offer it for sale, even though it lives in a drawer with several other pocket knives. If you don't want to keep it, I wouldn't be surprised if you get a PM from an interested party (not me!).

I left behind a 1945 Rheem QMC marked jerry can last weekend in TN, for $10. Too much rusty mess inside to buy it, but that one is going to haunt me. They're like rabbits in my attic, and every time I poke my head up, there's a new one up there.

BTW, thanks for the mini-tutorial on the Boker Tree Brand. It's a nifty little pocket knife. No. 493. The main blade is chipped at the tip, which I can clean up with a stone. I am wondering when they were made? And what's the back story on the name? I guess I'll do some googling. Here are some pics. We really need a knife thread. We have an axe thread. There are enough knife guys here. Probably lots of the same guys. I know Outlaw picks them up.

Whoa, bro, that's a jeeper/GMTK'ers score right there. One could go weeks and weeks and even months and months and not see any of those.

Thanks! Think the last time I found so much GMTK in one place, in the wild was...never. And I overlooked (!) listing the Barcalo 3/4x7/8 and 15/16x1 LDBEs in the first picture...sorta makes me wonder if he'd parted out a GMTK at some point? Things not in perfect condition, but not 75 years of rust on them, either.

The estate sale was interesting. Guy had a BIG shop where he'd clearly had a small engine repair business. Tons of things specific to that, and a bunch of hardware which I looked at and just decided I don't have a place for it. Sorta kills my "hoovering" instinct to let that sort of thing go by, but there's only so much space available here. There was even an old ElectroLux in the shop.

This, combined with my scores on 127 Yardsale (on the G, I never posted them here) go a long way towards my next GMTK. Still some brand-specificity to work on there, but its getting a LOT closer.

Probably a pocket knife thread and another for fixed blades, but I may be splitting hairs with that distinction. Thoughts? I'll pick them up if it's cheap for quality, or I'm after something specific. My Scoutmaster from when I was a kid was an inspiration - he had a suitcase full of military knives and bayonets he'd bring out annually. At today's prices, it was well north of $3k in contents.

I think your Treebrand is likely a better Barlow knife than a Barlow brand :rocker:

Great finds today. Tell us about the ignition wrenches.
We checked out a couple garage sales with no luck so we hit a local thrift shop. My find of the day was an FSN marked 15” auto wrench. You can add it to your FSN tool database. We found some toolbox drawer liner, a couple of #4 Phillips drivers, some huge Channellocks and some random sockets.

Merc

If you picked up everything in these pics for $80 I think you've earned a solid "you ****!"

Need some details though. 3 anvils...really? I'd love to find one at a great price. What weights did you get?

What brand is the axe? I've got one I picked up today I'll post soon.
What brand and sizing of your impact set? They are impact right?

Look like great finds! Enjoy :)

Past 24hrs was full of hitting estate sales for me. Hit one yesterday evening, and three this morning. So my first sale was a contractor downsizing his tools. Sounded like he had a number of crews as I recall him mentioning having up to 6 jobs going at once. What was his expertise? Putting up cell towers. I ended up going to the guy's warehouse/office the day before the sale which was a bonus and interesting. $55 for the lot.

Skill belt sander: $20
Makita Grinder: $25
Milwaukee M18 Job light: $5
Empire 2ft magnetic level: $2
Stack of grinder wheels: $3
(cutting, grinding, wire wheel, new flap disc)

Yeehaa

My first estate sale today was the one I was most excited about. The guy worked for NASA. Machinist shop in basement and Car shop up in the garage. The lead picture for the sale was the milling machine. He had things in the backyard he had machined from stuff he brought home from NASA. Three machinist vises in the pictures too; Two USA 4" and one for milling. Never saw the one for milling. Sale started at 9am. I arrived at 8am. Was 15th on the list. Only let 10 in at a time. So first 10 have no other competition for as long as they want. I had to wait about 30mins. Lots of stuff. I am not a machinist so alot was over my head. It's not like there was a set of this or that in an organizer. There were drawers full of this and that. Oswego fixed Vise listed for $200. Athol swivel vise listed for $75. The Oswego price didn't make sense to me; the seller said he had one ebay comp over $400. Both were 4" vises.

Anyway, it was my smallest buy of the day. Garage was packed with tools but loose all over the place. And I didn't see great old USA in the loose ones too much. Here is what I picked up for $40. Price for the pile.

I like the red socket organizers. Just wish they had the sockets in them or anywhere to be found....lol

JH Williams 1/2" ratchet in the pic(found in the tool chest). I saw the 3/8" in a box by the workbench. Picked it up. Turned out to be another buyer's box. Doh.

Didn't get pics of my 2nd and most successful estate sale of the day. Will work on that tomorrow.

His is my 3rd and final estate sale of the day. This one required an appt. I was the only one there. Not the first day. And seems not the first month they have had a sale. Still goodies to be found!!!

I had some goals for this Estate day:
1. Belt sander
2. Better grinder
3. Power planer
4. Mill drill bits
5. Few wrenches to fill sets
6. Hand planers
7. Bar clamps

Here is what I found at this stop:
Tap and Die set. $10. At least twice the size of the set I had. Nicer features too.
Two Squares: $5 total
Two Hand planers: $5 each (very nice, smaller one still in box)
Jig-Saw: free (this thing is cool :)
Easco Axe: $5 (didn't know they made Axes!!!)

Lectrolite DBE wrench. Was missing this size in my Craftsman =V= set. There were some other Lectrolite DBE wrenches around but all SAE and I doubt a complete set. I'd really like to complete my =V= DBE MM set!!!

Rest thrown in to make a $30 total. I'd say the Axe alone is worth that.

Hey Rickster,
I'll ask since I don't know.
Are the 3 "zebra handled" hammers an owner modification?
Reminds me of when I used a propane torch to burn then clear the wood work in my 78 E150 custom van...

Off for today's "hoovering," but will post up about them later today, probably with some closeups.

Already have 41-W-450 listed, since I picked one up a couple years ago. Thanks for thinking of that project, though...

This was my last pawn shop haul.

4 Armstrong wrenches including a short 3/4 and a handful of industrial finish.

Proto industrial 13mm.

Snap On Vacuum Grip pliers.

Snap On puller tip.

Also, several things I was tired of seeing on their shelf for so long  So much so, that I decided to take them home so I can stare at them even more:

a black powder measure that was mixed in their tools, & six 1/2” drive Herbrand Van Chrome sockets. I should have bought the sockets 3 years ago when I bought the speeder. Back then i could have had the loosy goosy u joint and probably 3 more sockets, some of which may still be mixed in there.

Sales with any decent amount of tools have been pretty non-existent around here this spring/summer. Therefore no sales have been standing out as "I got to hit that one first". So studied up on any sales that even mentioned tools so was contemplating which sale to hit first so decided to hit the sale closet to my house and on the other side of my town. Sale said yard sale/estate sale which for me typically ends up being a dud because most stuff is really yard sale rather than estate sale stuff. Well the gods were smiling on me because I chose right this time. Was pretty much the first there or at least first one interested in tools.

Bunch of Snap-On and Mac tools along with a good amount of non-truck brands. $150 for all, tapped out so called it a weekend after one stop 3 miles from the house. Living in a working mans area has its benefits for sure.

I found this on the internet...

Western Forge is a USA-based hand tool maker, well-known for making screwdrivers – especially their clear-handled styles – but also pliers and other hand tools, for Sears and their formerly-owned Craftsman tool brand. Western Forge has produced tools for other brands as well.

https://toolguyd.com/western-forge-usa-hand-tools-sears-craftsman-supplier-closing-022020/

The WF Western Forge markings are not connected to the WF Wright Field Military markings. This confuses people. I believe that the Western Forge markings started after the Military markings were no longer used in purchasing. There were lots of WF Military marked tools in circulation long after WWII.

Manny, Prov, Thanks! I should have recalled Western Forge! I'll have to go check out the AA site for the years Western Forged was a Sears OEM. I can't recall seeing any other WF marked Craftsman tools. But then my memory isn't what it used to be.

Still slow here compared to what I see you guys doing!

2 stops planned and only one with anything really. Tried for a couple of TOO's but apparently old signs.

Spotted the Adlake Kero Globe and it was a buck, so proceeded to dig deep.

Toaster pyramid for camp stoves. I've never had one. Wish it was a folder, but I hear those do terrible.

A coupe of Brass fan sprayers

A NIB Schrade knife - I can't find a single marking for MIC, so may have lucked out there.

A couple of shiftier knobs, probably for a transfer case

A razor strop, there were two but the other was beginning to crack

And a clamp-on tester spark plug. these are great, clip to any decent ground and attach the wire, and you can verify spark without having to fiddle around trying to keep a loose plug grounded.

$7 all!

Dave *****! So does WNYF! Also BW for the grinder wheels, Planes, and the jig saw drill adapter for free - I love those things. (with a decent battery drill you can have quit a bit of work capacity with a few of those drill driven tools with care...)

TX, the WF Craftsman era could include most any plastic handled hand tool. Screw starters, O-Ring picks, etc...

We hit a few Tahoe garage sales this morning and found a few tools at reasonable prices. Tha last sale was best since it netted approximately 50 sockets, mostly US Craftsman. Fortunately all of the sellers and customers we ran across were masked up.

I had a good day yesterday. Several sales looked good, and one TOO had some interesting stuff that I didn't buy.

Stops #1 and #2 are in the first photo.
2 test jumper leads. $0.25
Machinery's Handbook 24th edition,
Caterpillar Pocket Reference (1979),
Starrett pocket decimal table, $2.00 for the three items

Photo #2 is stuff from a Church sale. I spent $10.00, which included the rolling cabinet shown later:
Wizard Tool Box
Westline 8" adjustable
Battery post cleaner (with a good brush for the clamps)
Mirror that I need for a truck.
Fairmount 9 inch auto wrench
4 cartridge boxes
Vlchek 16 oz. ball pein hammer

Photo #3 is the rolling cabinet. I'll be using it to mount the little Ammco shaper that is on the floor.

Photo #4 is the shaper. I've had this for over a year, and haven't had a place to mount it.

Photo #5 is another sale. An older woman selling her deceased husband's tools. I paid $5.00 for the lot.
Snap-On F-10-G1 (? it is hard to read - too much rust) 3/8 dr 12" extension.
Craftsman - v- 3/8 dr 20" extension
Plomb WF-36 1/2 dr 20" extension
P&C 6208 1/2 dr 10" extension
Cornwell hinge handle 1/2 dr 17-1/2" long. Can only read "ell"
Vise Grip 20R chain wrench

Yesterday wasn't a great one for tools, but good nonetheless.
I hit a half-dozen sales and only netted the following:

Plomb and Snap-on drivers, Starrett pocket scale and what I thought was a set of Starrett drill gauges, but were just hiding behind a Starrett chart. Grrr...

But a few stops at thrift stores were good:

The Chapelle book is one of the classics of wooden ship building, and the Wolfe is a classic of American literature. Both were printed in 1935.

And my final stop looked good from the pics but there weren't any good handtools (guessing a family member must have gotten them) but I did find these:

a four shelf set of barristers bookshelves. These go for $200 a shelf in an antique store, but I walked away with them for $400, talked down from $500. Pretty happy as the wife was looking at a set of repops a while back at nearly that price, but told her that I could find a much better set for not much more money.

You are Plomb driver magnet. A square shank on that one as well. Let me know if want to trade sell any of them off. Still have quite a few gaps in my tool board.

Looking for a Round Beam Plomb 1068 Double Box End Wrench
