So I was headed out to the HW Store this afternoon to get some acetone and 3 doors up the street there are 2 belt sanders at the curb.

I grabbed a Taiwanese 6" x 48" belt sander that is missing a few minor parts and rolled it home. It works and it is fairly quiet - no squealing bearings! I need to go through it, clean up a few things and make a new mobile base for it.

The trip was successful on 2 fronts - the acetone dissolves whatever is splattered across the front of the Kennedy Box I bought last week and I grabbed a usable sander.

Cheers

Jim

It seems that everyone who’s posted has had a good weekend.
MrsLS was down the shore (OCNJ) with her double-cancer-surviving mother this weekend, so I was on my own this morning at Jake’s flea. Because I was ambivalent about the weather, I missed the first two hours of daylight. Nevertheless, $47 brought home the following:
Stanley Rule & Level 745 table vise - as found I could not find any marks on it, but by the details it was obviously Stanley. After our recent discussion on these codes, I figured I’d take a chance And pay the asking price. Glad I did.
18 inch Craftsman underline pipe wrench.
5 geometric-C Craftsman nutdrivers.
Crown top expansive bracebit.
Dayton 2904 spring leaf separator.
Pre-Stanley North Bros all-metal push drill in amazing condition.
2 early Snap-on socket trays. Elsewhere I spotted a SO Midget rat with a few sockets in a SK box. Nice rat, but $75? hahaha...shaking my head.
Single Pony-ancestor bar clamp, sans bar (both pieces). It’s dimly Craftsman-blue, but I don’t see any logo, just 7346-4 and made in usa. Also a recurrent foundry mark of an “M” inside a squarish octagon.
Stanley 404 picture-frame clamp. Pretty cruddy, but I almost paid eBray $15 for one, and this one was just $1.
Lutz file handle.
SH anchor TM pat apld for lineman’s pliers. Dunno SH.
C’man underline bitbrace screwdriver.
Unmarked Chisel - really thought there was a logo telegraphing through the rust. Oh well.
Proto Los Angeles 5-1/2 chisel.
Bridgeport box tool.
1890 Bernard patent Schollhorn pliers, Sargent dikes, and a silly multi tool I hoped was USA, but turned out Germany. (I’ve been watching a much larger Bonney version on eBay.)
Bonney 3/8dr sliding tee with a Mac 1/2dr adaptor stuck on it. The tee is also laser-etched with Mack Trucks Inc, so I picked it, even though I haven’t been focused on later Bonney.
Seymour Smith 1697 Snap-Lock, patents pending - look a LOT like Bonney-branded ones I’ve seen.
5” 2-patent + patents pending Petersen Vise Grips.
Bridgeport (EDIT - New Britain - Arrg! I mix them up all the time!) pat apld for pistol-grip slip-joints.

On the way home, stopped at a smaller flea and paid $1 to extend my Landmark books collection. Closeups are after some time on the wire wheel.

Dang, he’s making us do math. Practicing your home schooling on us? And the answer happened to equal his post count.

That’s how my mind work when I’m on the hunt. How much did I pull from the ATM and how much is left in my pocket before I have to go back to the ATM ... and yes I have three at home virtual schooling so you get an extra credit gold star for making that correlation [emoji6]

Hit a local garage sale today that advertised "Tools, Car Parts, Car Accessories". Was posted on FB Market. When I asked what type of tools I was told, "Dad was Auto body mechanic, cleaning out garage". When I got there today they also told me this wasn't the first sale they had. So it was definitely to my surprise to find a very clean Wilton Bullet sitting on top of a tool chest (there were a few tool chests in there). It's newer than the vintage ones usually posted here. I haven't confirmed this yet but I believe the number stamped on the slide key is the date of manufacture like the old ones: 594. So May 1994? The owner had passed away. A friend was pricing the tool sale. He said the vise had never been used.

I also picked up a SK tool chest top, also in excellent condition for $30. I didn't even realize it had the removable tray like a tool box until I opened it up at home....lol.

Oh, the Wilton cost me $40 :)

Damn!!! Where in NY was this? Did they have anything worthwhile left over?

Did a bit of dumpster diving, came up with these casters. Three inchers, the haul totaled two rigid, two swivel and 14 swivel with brakes. :bounce:

A couple weeks ago I hit up a building sale on facebook marketplace, what made me wanna go was that the ad said that anything and everything was 1 dollar. Apparently the building was an old antique shop, but the owner never sold anything and ended up passing away with a building full of stuff. the people running the sale said when they got the place you couldnt even walk, it was that filled. Anyways here's a group photo of everything I got. everything from meat grinder, miters boxes, hundreds of drill bits, pipe threaders, lathe tools, blacksmith cold chisels, and tons of really nice hand tools. A couple of my favorites I ended up getting were the Dolge oil drum and an old 1911 mag that I can use in my kimber, so win win. You can see how dirty my hand was after digging through the building lol. I got everything pictured for 60 bucks

Hello Again!

That is also what I said this morning when I returned to the garage sale where I picked up that NOS Wilton Vise yesterday. You see, there was also an Anvil sitting on the floor. Looked great to me but other than "Peter Wright" I don't know any names in the Anvil business. They were asking $100 and said it weighed 80lbs. I can't confirm the weight but it was heavy. I snapped a few pics and asked one of our own what he thought. I couldn't make out the name but he identified it as the late 1800s company Trenton, a good buy. I had already left the sale so I messaged the seller. Offered $80, she accepted. I picked it up this morning. Mighty fine Anvil if you ask me and thanks to Lugnutz for the advice!!!

Another wonder that it wasn't picked up by anyone else. It was sitting out in the open at the front of the garage. The seller said no one wanted to pay the price. Seemed pretty fair to me!

In case anyone is interested, I posted more info and photos of that Made in Czechoslovakia "Tona" socket set up on the "Old World" thread here on the General board, and more on the tap handle on the "Tap and Die" thread down on the Vintage board.

Teasers...

Yeah, I ended up getting a couple pipe threaders, one is an old rigid branded one and the two others have handles that unscrew, the smaller one has a bunch of teeth for it, the larger one might have some teeth in the bins, but I'd have to look, I havent gotten to cleaning them yet either, so I dont know the brand on them yet

Pulled this pair of old wallpaper saw horses out of the trash yesterday. They both fold up and stow away nicely. Their unbranded, but after looking at similar ones online, I'm thinking they were made by "Werner", judging by the metal bits on them

God I admire you guys who list EVERY SINGLE PIECE you pick up! I am NOT that patient. Here are more pics of the Emmert. Has some damage and missing some parts, like the part that always seems to get left bolted to the bench....

Oxweld NOS tips and extensions and an angled cutting torch that has seen some use. $40

A 1/4" SK box little and cute with some Craftsman early sockets that I am sure someone will tell me what they are as I have never seen them, along with some SK and some Taiwanese cheapies $5

A couple miles of copper cable with clamps, maybe #4? $3

1/2" X Long ratchet with rubber handle. Looks Snap On but no markings that I can find, maybe Armstrong? Black industrial finish $5

A bunch of Proto, Williams and Wright wrenches, a buck each. I need to go back, I was out of time and I am sure there are more. A couple of larger AO sockets for a buck each too. It's a honey hole!

Yes, the Reed alone was a great deal at $70 but did nobody notice the Mitotoyo digital caliper in the original plastic case that came along with it? I have the same caliper that cost over $100 back in the ‘00s.

How does 80-26 = 55?! New math?!

You know that all your old posts update with your current count, right?

And that he replied confirming homeschooling, before you replied?

80-26=54, plus one for his reply = 55.

Of course this was all done with old math, not that new common core stuff, which no one I know understands.

The S-K box is early postwar and the Craftsman socket is a long C made by New Britain, either Circle H or BE marked.

So, concluding you have a type5 No1 turtleback? Guess that makes it just over 100 years old? It’s beautiful, scars and all. I know you have plenty of other treasure to go through, but if it were me, that Emmert would be my full-time obsession until I had it cleaned up, mounted and operational. So envious!

...there was also an Anvil sitting on the floor...

Sounds familiar! b.well, I think you have a gift for understatement, LOL

Since you mentioned them, I saw a similar-size Peter Wright yesterday, but it was priced just under $800!
While it was once a guideline, these days $1/lb is a “you ****” vise price! Great deal!

Thank you!

I read somewhere in these forums that $1/lb is the fair standard at local sales. So that's what I shoot for :). Ones I see on FB Market are usually $3-5/lb. This is the first Estate/garage sale Anvil I have found. I did much better here than the $30 I paid for the 12" 7.8lb railroad anvil(last month)!
