Finished painting! :rocker:

Can you elaborate on what everything on that wall is for? Nice work on the painting as well, looks great!

We've all been there.
The effort and labor involved just makes it so much sweeter in the end :rocker:

Yeah thanks! Changing of the seasons in Wisconsin shifts my focus on what gets my attention and $$. It gets cold, most projects move into the garage, and the older I get the less enthusiastic I am about working in the cold.

Just too many projects to throw money at, and being laid off all summer due to covid isn't helping me feel good about spending $$. But I NEED to stay busy, so looking for cheap projects.

Found out exactly how out of square some beams are in the basement.....lots of up and down the stairs cutting and notching out plywood wall sheating for my little ‘armoury’ room, need to build a wall next weekend then box off the heating vent in the corner.

I spent all day Saturday recovering from Friday's lavatory faucet experience. It seems that after every major maintenance project I need a day to recover.

Lots of Smalls:
  • Replaced the windshield washer tank on the DD rig
  • Vacuumed, and wet wiped the interior of the rig as well as all the door jambs. (still needs that exterior bath)
  • Removed the lock from a tool box I bought Sat so I can try to sort a key out for it, if not It gets replaced
  • Started derusting the insides of a Coleman stove fuel tank I rescued from a dump pile in the woods while on my hunting trip - First shot with Citric acid.
  • Hung a Kerosene lantern near my easy chair. This one has a Mercury glass concave mirror.
  • Put a bunch of Stuff away

Ran conduit to hide the garage wiring in my freshly painted garage. Then found out I need to buy some low voltage wiring because the original wire length for the door opener is too short since they ran it at an angle to get from A to B. Should have thought of that before, but oh well.

I washed the mustang and put her back in storage for the winter. I fueled her up, washed her by hand in the driveway, and backed her in the garage for safe keeping. I also added copious amounts of drier sheets in the interior to ward off varmints.

In the evening I had to move a car, the truck and a forklift to find the weight bench. I got smart enough to move the Hyster over so I do not need to move it everytime. It's a tight squeeze, but now it will be a little easier to find the weights.

After all that I remembered to look for my antifreeze testor. I was surprised when I located it, but the end of it's broken off. Looks like it's time for a new one. It would might still work without the hose extension, but won't be too handy to fill.

PSA for all those folks living in cold states; check your antifreeze! I will checking my tractors once I receive a new testor.

disassembled the kids toys and powerwheels for storage. The ones they wont be using in the winter. Man that stuff takes up space. Feel like I just found about 500 sq ft, i had lost.

Since Minnesota’s fall season was abruptly cut short by record early snowfall and now our roads are all full of salt, today my ‘73 Mercedes 450SL got an oil change, a wash, and went into her bubble for a long winters nap.

Luckily no salt or brine yet in Ohio, but I tucked my mustang away for winter yesterday. I have heard of these before, but never saw one in person. It's an interesting concept. I contemplated getting one for the cycle, but then got paranoid about power outages. I was afraid the plastic would stick to the paint if it ever deflated. So long summer cars ☹️

That’s a fair point. I suppose that a couple of moving blankets could be left on the car as an intermediate barrier “just in case” of a deflation. Besides the inherent physical protection of the bubble, I really love not having to worry about Mickey and Minnie taking up residence in my car.

I like how you think. Is it the physical barrier that keeps them out or does it incorporate another method? I use drier sheets on the interior of my car. It makes it smell fresh if nothing else. I think any strong aromatic will deter them. Mice are a major pia. I have seen them destroy many things over the years.

Last year they munched on my trailer wiring for my tilt deck trailer. Jokes on them....I found a huge snake skin in the same tool box. They were someone's lunch. Now I worry about running into the snake all the time, but he can keep eating those mice. I have a huge dislike of snakes, but he was a good friend in this case.

Yesterday: Picked up a used piece of industrial grade racking from FB marketplace.

Tonight: Assembling said racking, and if all goes well bending some aluminum into Z flashing.

Yeah, I really hate mice in the shop and the damage that they can cause. I don’t get too many anymore as I’ve sealed up the building pretty well over time, but don’t want to take the risk if they would happen to get in. The bubble is fully enclosed so no entry points for the critters to gain access. I think that a few dryer sheets thrown in for good measure is a great idea. Belt ‘n suspenders.

I guess that your snake, as the enemy of your enemy, was your friend! But having a snake in the shop big enough to take out the mice is not a trade off I’d like to make. This is Minnesota, snakes (thankfully) don’t get too big around here!

Thanks very much! Totally agree on the bumpers. I never really liked the look of the US-mandated “park bench” bumpers on the later SL’s (1974-1989) so bided my time until an earlier 1972-1973 came up for sale with the smaller bumpers before buying mine. I found it interesting that many collectors of this vintage of Mercedes SL’s actually do like, even prefer the park benches. A shoe for every foot!

Mounted the white fiberglass saddle bags on my 74 FLH along with the rear fender bumper.

Also painted black a small box which I'm going to use as a tool/first aid kit holder for the 74 FLH.

Packing. Lots and lots of packing. About 10 days out from closing on our Sale and ~12days closing on our Buy in an adjacent State. 25yrs of shop and multiple hobbies and renovation and house flipping materials, tools etc to pare down, sell off, give away and pack. Almost done.

Moving into a 3-car so I finally have a full bay for a shop space, so lots of french cleat upper cabinets and build-out pics to come.
One of the first priorities is clearing out and painting and lighting the interior of the new garage. It's a battleship gray cave right now with about 3-1/2 DOHC engines scattered around some sort of japanese coupe that looks vaguely like a track car. Lot of mess and grease to clean up, then paint the whole thing in white primer and semi-gloss white paint. Excuse to finally buy a pressure washer and an airless sprayer.

I put the wraps on this week's video last night. In the video I transport my daughter's playhouse. Also known as the 'coolest yard barn ever' or if you are my wife, 'our she shed'. She already has plans for holiday decorations and Christmas photos!

I get the tractors out to help with the task. Project big MF'er and the 843 Bobcat are put to work. Check it out if you are bored or interested in moving a shed. It's pretty cool how easily it loads on the tilt deck PJ trailer.

Check it out:

Thanks everyone!

Some way overdue maintenance on the air compressor. Changed the oil, it had royal purple synthetic in it, and it came out black, changed to an ND 30 weight synthetic that is clear. Changed the incoming filter and adjusted the belts. all good for another 5 years now.

Been working on what I call balcony boards for our 2 condos on Tybee Island. They are under the railings so you can place your beverage or whatever and not have to place them on a table- the drinks will be close by ! One then can watch people going by, and look at the ocean.

Our building Id is the Sandpiper.

2 are 4 ft, one is 2 foot.

The board with the beer caps is a 4 footer that will be installed in the other unit, by itself.

The Sandpiper ones are covered in spar varnish, the beer cap one is an epoxy.

First time doing this- had a little help with a friend.

The Sandpiper ones were burn't in- the beer cap ones were placed in holes by a fortsner bit and epoxed.

I hope they hold up awhile in the salt air- and wear and tear from people.

I moved my power tool holder thingy up a foot so I could squeeze my swamp cooler under it. I had some old red paint so I put on coat of paint.

I smashed an old couch to pieces. We got a new couch, and I want to take the old one to the landfill, but it's too big to take it by myself. My wife has a shoulder injury so she can't help me, and I don't wanna bother any of my friends during a pandemic with something so petty. So I smashed it and cut it up into manageable pieces. God, what a pain in the *** that was, lol.

Why didn't i just list it free or something? Well, a while back, some of my friends came over for a party in the garage. Their devil-kids were in the house, unattended, wrestling and body-slamming each other on the couch. They blew the wood frame right out the bottom. So it was junk.
