Sears dead for good? For a long time during the downward spiral, the employees claimed they were one of the best peforming stores. The way they signed up credit cards left & right maybe, but looks like the reaper came calling. This is in Grand Rapids / Grandville, MI

My local Sears (Phillipsburg NJ) is now a parking lot......... Demolished, carted away and graded out.
Very Sad to see what happened to a powerful retail store...... And you can’t blame Covid.

It is sad indeed when you think it was the Amazon of its time. One can order anything and everything from Sears. My wife's Aunt ordered their home from Sears in Pennsylvania, it arrived on the train and they assembled it. You could order from their extensive catalog just about everything you needed.

They didn't open a good amount of stores after corona lockdown.

This did re-open after Corona. Kept claiming they were get new items in, which I did everything to contain that endless stream of laughter.

I guess it was all liquidation people working , as they all said it was their first day (jacking prices above any items selling history price)

The 3 sears that are closer (relative speaking) by me are all open, not sure what you guys are yapping about.. although the tools department are mostly empty. but it is still there.

I am thinking they are trying to restructure walking the path of JC Penny once have walked.

I think it's too late for Sears.

I saw an estimate that JCP will still have about 600 stores after the latest restructuring, but Sears is already down to about 60 locations. Don't know how many of those small Hometown stores are remaining, but it doesn't seem like Sears has a plan to make big changes with those locations.

Sears did open three "home & life" stores in 2019, but they have less departments.

EDIT: Okay, I counted 67 stores (not including Hometown) on Sears.com.
  • 3 locations in the U.S. are the new "home & life"
  • 6 locations are in Puerto Rico.
  • 7 locations are part of that liquidation list, but have not been removed from the Sears store locator.

Dealwise, there are more Blowout items ($**.94) appearing on the Sears website, but many are not showing a shipping option. Also, some appear to have a little bit higher prices than the original Blowout event.

I think this is the best of their online Doorbusters this year:

I've never understood the store closings just before the holiday season. It seems to me they'd be better off announcing it in January and getting people back in the store then.

Thanks for sharing though. This is the last West MI store and I stopped in about a month ago. They had 2 Gladiator cabinets on the floor that I want, but they weren't priced all that well. I'll have to stop back in and see.

Yep. I got many great tools from that store growing up in a neighboring town.

That said, I soley blame Sears for their problems. Recently, went to their website to try and purchase vacuum bags and a new HEPA filter for our Kenmore vacuum.

After 15 minutes of putting ever combo I could think of in the search box, I could not get vacuum bags to come up.

Put Kenmore vacuum bags into the search box on Amazon, actual Kenmore brand was the first item listed, at 1/2 the price and free shipping.

Shame on Sears for being a dinosaur and not adjusting to the times. It pains me to say that since I use to love to spend time cruising the tools section looking at all the stuff for sale.

Sad.

Im curious whom is on payroll that types up those emails, some of them are actually pretty good.

If anyone is in the market, the 90th anniversary wrenches appear to be real. I asked for some for christmas and Ive not heard that their order was cancelled...

Have seen those and the sockets on there forever (well, at least 3 years). Good thing they are "limited edition" or can you imagine how many they would have stockpiled??? :wtf:

Somewhat off topic, but has anyone been in a store and found any 2020 craftsman christmas ornaments? I have one from each of the past 10 years or so, not sure if they came out with anything or not?

I was in my local remaining store last week picking up some Craftsman overstock items and didn’t even see any Xmas lights or wrapping materials as in years past.

Barely had anything and I asked when are you stocking for BF? Didn’t get a real answer.

Same. My last Sears had nothing at all for Christmas. Nada. Zilch. They did have some mini toolbox tins and we picked up a couple of those for less than a buck each. Some joker is selling them for $14 on eBay.

Each year they used to have a little Christmas village set up with all kinds of miniatures. My wife bought me a Craftsman tool truck miniature, which is funny because they never had a fleet of trucks selling tools. This one looks like a Snap-On truck and window on the side makes the guy look like he’s selling ice cream or tacos.

All the BF-related websites are still showing the 2019 ad. I can understand Transformco trying to save money with the printing cost of a Black Friday store ad, but they didn't even release a digital version for 2020. :eek7:

Does SEARS still exist? :dunno:
It's endangered, but not quite extinct yet. :D

Looks like the 90th anniversary sockets sold out at some point.

Without shipping options, you pretty much need a local Sears store to get their best deals now.

I haven’t been to a store but I did search the website for them a couple times before and after BF and nothing.

I was just there today and walked away with some good deals on clothes. The prices on fixtures there seem to be lower than what the Portage, Battle Creek, Saginaw, and Lansing stores had but is probably because of a different liquidator. It is such a shame of what has become of Sears.

The Grandville store had been one of the nicest Sears stores I have been in (I think I've been in fifteen Sears and seventy-two Kmarts). I didn't need any tools (shocker:shocking:) but there were decent deals on some hand tools and clothing. What struck me as odd were the racks of clothes with Kmart tags on them and the boxes and boxes of Gearwrench sets and singles. On a side note, my Kmart was stocked the most it has ever been in years and with three registers open!

Same here when they closed the local Kmart. Most stocked items in several years.

Sears. Same thing. I figured the liquidator was provided anything they could find to move. Things I had never saw in Sears before filled the shelves. Anything to bring the hordes of deal seekers.

The 90th sockets and wrenches were real, I had ordered them some time ago. I believe both sold out since.
