Air Compressor issues!

Well the pump on my Ingersol Rand SS5 finally gave our. Made it 10 years so I’m not complaining. To make a quick fix I grabbed a HF 5hp pump and retrofitted it to the tank. Went to start it up and the motor started slowing at around 100 PSI or so, and the pressure switch didn’t cut it off at 135 like normal. So I grabbed a new pressure switch, and that solved the cut out issue, but still it gets slow at around 100psi, and fluctuates rpm. I thought maybe the belt, but tension is good, I’m only using one belt on the double pump pulley though, don’t think that would matter though.

Any ideas on things I can check? I’ve wasted almost 2 days Messi g with this thing, and I need it up and running today, or I am pulling the trigger on a new Quincy.....

I'm confused, the motor went out so you replaced the pump?? that could be the problem right there

Typo.... the pump started knocking pretty bad. I edited the post. That would be confusing, and wouldn’t say much for my knowledge.

you put oil in the pump I am assuming...
what rpm are you spinning the pump at?
how tight is the belt? could the single belt be slipping?
are you sure the pressure gauge is reading accurate? ( since your original pressure switch wasnt getting to full pressure)?

Is that a true 5 hp motor, or a 5 hp spl?? How many amps does the motor nameplate rating specify?? Some of those 5 hp spl (special) motors are closer to 3 1/2 hp and will not run a 5 hp rated pump at full pressure.
