Only one sale today and I didn't hold out much hope from what I saw in the pictures. It was one of those where they post 150 pictures of ceramic and glass ware and only a couple of blurry shots of "garage items." There wasn't a lot, but what there was was interesting and inexpensive--$11 total.

--VACO Nut Driver Set No. S-700 Missing the S-8 1/4" w/Red Handle. In my collection of loose VACO nut drivers, guess which one I don't have...
--Long Nose Vise-Grip LN6--the box does not appear to ever have been opened and it has a 1982 copyright.
--Stanley Sweetheart No.95 **** Gage--SW logo is the latest one which puts it in the 1923-32 range.
--Cloth roll of 15 brace bits. Most are Irwin. Three are Millers Falls and one I can't make out--Logo has scroll work on both sides. In a banner above there is an H. then possibly two more initials followed by CO. Below it says Our Ver (probably something like Our Very Best). The logo has been damage by a wrench clamping on the shaft. BTW, Lugz, there's no visible sign of any stamp or marking on the canvas roll.
--Two Lufkin 1206 aluminum and brass folding rules--both in great shape.
--Craftsman Long C level--No.3983
--WM Johnson 9.5" Wing Dividers--I don't know if the locking knob is original. The knurling is different from the wing knob but looking on the 'net there are photos of everything from stamped wing nuts to a piece of scrap metal braised onto a screw.

Less than 3 hours till we declare the winner of Picker of the Year! If you don’t vote now, you probably won’t get the chance.

FYI: I am planning to launch the poll to choose our 2021 Garage Sale Thread Host today around noon. 7 days will put the final tally on Christmas day, and give the winner a week to prepare for New Year’s day.

Each of our candidates is an excellent and deserving picker. The top two established an early lead, and it looked for a while like a tie was in the making. But as evenly-matched as our favorite pickers may be, there can be only one Picker of the Year...and that winner is:

:rocker:OUTLAWMWS:rocker:

CONGRATULATIONS!

Well, I don't know what to say, other than Congratulations to Outlaw, and thanks to all my supporters!

But I will not go gently into that good night, I will rage, rage against the dying of the light!

Or, unlike Dylan Thomas, I will keep buying more ****.

Please, continue your celebrations, but The Poll for selecting the 2020 Garage Sale Thread Host is NOW OPEN.
I’ll stuff this post with caveats, disclaimers, etc, as I think of them, but it’s much more straightforward than PotY: Who of our 10 candidates do we want to Host next year’s thread?
I have placed the candidates in order of generated posts, as this is an objective, observeable, confirmable fact. You should consider not only the volume, but also the content, purpose, and efficacy of their posts. A thread host starts the thread, arranges the selection of Picker of the Year and the succeeding year’s host. But the host also facilitates, manages, encourages, and entertains throughout the year. Who among our candidates has shown the most promise?

To say I'm shocked is an UNDERSTATEMENT! :shocking: I feel like this was my worst year ever, picking-wise, and was surprised I even made it to the top ten frankly. To go from there to win, well; I don't know what to say, but to thank everyone that voted!

 I feel like BMW and several others were FAR more successful with their pickings.

Takes a lickin', keeps on pickin'!

Thorsen socket box, Proto puller arm, Matco and Armstrong spinner, and the best thing; a cable stop kit. Wonderful for working on vintage (pre '65) British bicycles.

Congrats, Outlaw!!!

But, wait, why isn't the winner the automatic host for the next year? Seems like such a distinct achievement should be accompanied by an appropriate punishment???

Congrats, Outlaw! You've always been a prolific picker and contributor to the thread--it's well deserved. Most of the pickers in the voting brought home and posted scads of neat stuff this year, despite the COVID hitch in our collective giddy up. Can't wait to see how the host voting turns out!

Congratulations Outlaw!! A well deserved winner!

I'll second Beemer's stance and show my picks for the day:

First stop I finally scored an Eagle Shop Can. I've always wanted one and this one is in amazing shape--plus 30 shop rags to go with it.

18 Dec 20-1a.jpg

-- Challenger, CM Heritage and Giller boxes--all empty
-- Nearly 400 vintage engraved Pachinko balls!
-- My second set of Starrett S829 Small Hole Gages in as many weeks
-- Starrett C305R 12 inch rule
-- Millers Falls No.866 6" rule
-- Lufkin No.456 6" sliding calipers
-- Bore brush
-- Bausch & Lomb 3 loupe magnifying glass
-- Lufkin 50' woven tape measure for Bell System--outstanding condition
-- 1-1/4" handheld vise--no name
-- Two Mitutoyo telescoping gages
-- Brass Protractor for A.C. McClurg & Co, No. C6243
-- Brass (previously plated) "The Combination Rule, Square, & Compass, Pat'd Nov 17, 1891
-- Surface Roughness Gage
-- Another non-Starrett Center Finder--I've got a collection going...
-- Total $41

18 Dec 20-1b.jpg18 Dec 20-1d.jpg18 Dec 20-1c.jpg

Second stop for the day: $25

attachment.php

-- S-K roll--currently occupied by CM -VV- combos--pfff!
-- Two Central Tool Co Micrometers--0-1" and 0.3-1.3"
-- CM Crown carry box with tote
-- Herbrand 43015 1/2" breaker bar
-- Blue Bird #14 ignition/battery wrench by Bergman Tool Manufacturing Co.
-- Two SO DBEs and a thickness gage
-- Cornwell advertising screwdriver
-- Penens & Blackhawk DOEs
-- Tappet wrench 439H with a cursive stamp that looks like CSMC :dunno:
-- SIMANCO USA DOE 225 554 --(Singer Manufacturing Co)
-- Keen Cutter 4" Adjustable (Shapleigh's Saint Louis)
-- Proto screw starter and CM fine wire wheel

The blue cash box was used to hold all the items below it, including a couple of sets of CM sockets and drivers.

-- Plomb WF-20 Hinge Handle with repaired hinge!
-- Plomb WF-74 & WF-76 swivel sockets
-- Two Action sockets and extension
-- A few misc. Proto & SO items.

But my favorite thing from this haul is the Joy Buzzer! I'm sure the rest of you old farts remember these things. I even slipped it on and zapped the owner of the estate sale company.

:bounce: Vote Beemer for Thread Host!! :bounce:

There's a really tempting garage-centric estate sale about 45-min from me. In a normal year, I'd have been there early to seek a low number for entry. But 1) COVID and 2) I literally can't walk in a straight line from the door to the workbench of either of my garages. In fact, I have to turn sideways at points to move between piles and stacks of stuff, much of which I have acknowledged I want to get rid of, but haven't yet. Plus, the Impala has been the never-ending drivetrain swap that no one but me is going to get finished. So, I'm choosing to stay home today.

However, yesterday SWMBO and I re-purposed some material from previous picks into a yard decoration for Christmas:

Because nothing says 'Tis the Season like a 14-foot former trampoline frame turned peace symbol!

So, for the rest of you still chasing deals and finds here in the twilight of the picking year, good luck! Also, don't forget, if you haven't already, to click on over to LesserSon's poll for next year's thread opener/host and make you voice heard!

Nice, BB - si vis pacem, para pacem, eh? Nice hipped roof, too.

Woke up this morning, encouraged by weather with less snow than predicted earlier. But Jake’s website surprised me by stating “closed for season,” in addition to “open till Christmas.” Sore from clearing a stretch of street by hand yesterday (while FedEx attempted and failed to deliver a signature-demanding package, LesserDaughter1 being too involved in a fiance Facetime to get the door), and plagued by some other irratations, 25°F decided me against a trip to Quakertown. So with winter hitting tomorrow, I’ve entered outdoor sale hibernation. Lots of postponed projects around the LesserHouse to keep me occupied.

I‘ll probably scavange a few indoor places before the thaw, but I’m done with my regular spots for this year. Peace and best luck to those with continued opportunities.

LesserSonJr came home tonight after living in Manayunk for the past month. He reminded me of the impending alignment of Jupiter and Saturn, aparently the narrowest in 397 years, which will coincidentally occur tomorrow on the Winter Solstice. Guess I’ll hide my sickle.

Buddy of mine called me to tell me about an guy who was selling off his brother's stuff and had a lot of tools in the garage. So I drove over to take a look and while there was a lot of tools and stuff, I am not in a position to really drag it all home. So I shifted through the stuff and picked out what I need and can use soon. I did pick the draw knife cause I never found one in the past and this one was well cared for with its custom blade shield.

As I was making one more round I kept looking at the tool boxes and I kinda wanted them but knew they weren't what I really needed. The fella who was selling came up and said what would you give for them? Me not wanting to offend him told him I dont really want them but they are filled with interesting tools. He said how about $40 for both boxes and $10 for the other stuff you got. Well I couldn't pass the deal up and so I brought it all home.

I'll post more pics as I sort the boxes out. But most of the tools will go to my middle daughter to use while we work on lawnmowers this coming year.

Madison- it's hard to resist a good deal like that when it's right there.

Outlaw- congrats man. A deserving picker for sure!

LS & Bomber-
Hope you guys enjoyed your day. I decided to brave the flea market today. It took over ten minutes to find parking , LOL. Most people are there shopping for Christmas deals and a taco or three but you know what I was doing. I spent 4+ hours digging through the old, dirty, rusty goodness we all appreciate. Tools galore today. Even brought a Bonney wrench home LS.

I did come away with some goodies including a 42" long ratchet! No pics from today yet.

A few from a Habitat stop during the week.

Mostly 1/4" sockets. Thorsen, Dayton, Action, Walden, Penens, Williams. Some Craftsman 8 pointers. A hex to sq. adapter.

Stanley and Mac Sabina wood screwdrivers.

Westcraft stubby.

A beat up Snap On chisel.

Madison - Great deal! Suckworthy!

in pic one you show the spring loaded adjustable - is it a Masterench? (the one next to the bigfoot gas pedal)

I can hardly believe you and 3bay and others are finding anything between the Winter slowdown and the C-19 surge...

So sorted out the good stuff and got rid of all of the hardware stuff. Overall its mostly craftsman with a few other brands sprinkled in such as knipex, proto, Cresent, and Klein. There's a complete set of 1/4", 3/8", and 1/2" drive socket set. Standard wrenches, craftsman screwdriver set, adjustable wrenches, craftsman hex keys and some craftsman pliers, dikes, needle nose, and so on. There was some nice triumps drill bits which are not cheap! I took the wrench sockets and put those in my wrench drawer for future use.

Overall this will be a good set for my middle child as she works on lawnmowers!

Next post will be more pics of the tools from the boxes.

I found a metal frame Akro mils organizer for $5 yesterday at the flea market.

Then today, I found 8 metal boxes on CL for $30, which are 17-3/4” long by 11-1/2” wide by 5” tall. I figure I’ll order Schaller bins for them and make a nice hardware storage system.

Missed this post last night, you got a good eye there! Yes it is a masterench and I can't wait to try it out. I put it with my wrenches to make sure it's where I would find them and most likely decide to use them.

This particular sale came from word of mouth. The guy was wanting to clear the garage out since he needed to sell the house. So it worked out since he got roughly half of it cleared with just 4 of us guys. Whats left was mostly hardware and items for repair works. I offered to take some of the cleaning stuff for autos but his son claimed that stuff already.

I usually try to get them to go with me on the weekends but this particular time she wasn't home. But she's been asking when we will start seeing more lawnmowers to fix cause she ready to make some money! Lol

I’d consider that a very good score since it’s a lot of US made stuff!

Thank you! I'd say 95% of it is USA made. A couple adjustable wrenches are japan i think, and the mini hack saws are germany made. There was some China stuff but not much and they were junk basically. So in the trash they went. But the sockets are all usa with a few proto mixed in the craftsman lot.

Based on the garage contents, im sure the fella was very disappointed in Sears closing cause he had so much stuff new in the box that was craftsman, and alot of the tools were craftsman tool. He had several toolboxes but they were the newer style so I passed on them.
