concord coach lines from the portland train station goes direct to logan/ south station {not north station like the downeaster). amtrack from south station straight into NYC, subway from there.
in normal times there are a bunch of runs a day of both. dunno right now.

I will take a look, would probably Uber rather than subway. The truck is in Manhattan, might be able to get the guy to pick me up.

Sorry for the Old Timers disease, but doesn't one of the shops have AC? If so, sounds like a good day to organize and clean that shop.

I have three meetings, office paperwork, trip to the scrap yard, then I promised a friend I would help him re-string his flagpole with Buck. Busy day!

As for AC, SG has one, that isn't on yet, but I will turn it on today when I head over there. I need to get the office and Hill AC systems working for sure.

Also, Goldfender acted up this morning, sputtering and stumbling at RPMs less than about 2k, made it to the Hill, but wasn't really confidence inducing. I think it could use a tuneup, but this seemed more fuel related to me.

I'll come take it off your hands. You will have to pay me though.

No codes on Goldfender, could be as simple as a tune up, I will have to hook up the scan tool and check out what it is doing when the stutter is happening.

Got my Friends flag pole fixed, it was perfect timing, the wind came in and then it started raining with a dash of thunder and lightning about 30 minutes later.

Timing was good, but trouble was still on the horizon. :(

Met my GF at the Salvage Garage so we could go get some dinner, rain messed up our patio dinning plans, but still a great dinner (had fish and chips for the curious). Got back to the SG, no more rain, just starting to get dark, so I checked all the of Buck’s lights, all working, checked the wiper blades, all working, so I figured good to go. Turn the key and nothing, the transmission pad didn’t light up, so I think that it disengages the starter. I believe this is a safety so it can’t start in gear. I messed with it for a minute, then decided I would take Bev home instead, at least that worked out without any extra drama. So now I will have to mess with Buck on Friday, luckily it isn’t really in the way, so if I can’t get it going it won’t be the end of the world.

This morning the HVAC guy is going to try and finish up the drain system so he will be out of the attic area. We still have to wait for the electrician to get the disconnect wired up, hopefully we can have that done soon. It would be really nice to have the AC working, it is pretty hot up there!

The bulk of the day is centered on cleanup at the camp that is too be rented, I have help and I plan on taking full advantage of it. At least the next couple days look to be less humid and cooler. I guess tonight could even see mid 30s, but this weekend looks like it could be a bit of a wet one, lucky for me, I have plenty to do inside. ;)

Yes and no, my back yard at the SG has still been pretty soft, but we haven't had a lot of rain. I am not sure if the water table is just staying high or what. Usually after a couple weeks without much rain I can drive through there without any issue. This year has been pretty deceptive though, we had a wicked early warm up that hung around, so it made everyone think that summer was right around the corner, we still have a ways to go. I know the trees are doing well, so we must be OK as far as water, definitely has not been drought or too much rain, maybe just right.........

Actually are getting into a drought again. Yesterday before the storms southern Maine stream gauges were mostly at all time low flows for the date.

Interesting, I was at little Sebago Lake today and it was as close to the highest it gets. I don’t really pay attention to the statistics on that aspect of things.

Got the dead wood out of the yard, cleaned up the mess made by the plow, took a load of trash to the dump, moved things around outside, and got the dock setup. There is a bit of fixing that needs to be done on the dock, but other than that, it just needs to be raked up a bit more and we need some more furniture, then the camp will be ready for prime time.

My Dad decided to swap some tires around, this wild bird likes hanging out with him, think it is a guinea hen or something like that. He was using the 1” impact and the bird just sat there and watched him. I guess it hangs out most days.

First, the bird thing is cool. Second, the camp setting looks pretty nice. Third, you're a pretty big guy all around, like well over 6' right? Dad sure doesn't look like he's any taller than I am (5'8" and shrinking). What gives, is Mom kind of tall?

My mother’s father was taller, my brother is an inch or two taller than me, I remember when I was 14 and realized I was bigger than my Dad. Right now I am probably 5’ 11 1/2” tall, before I herniated L4 and L5 I was a touch over 6’, I am also 325 pounds, that part is a bit deceiving as I don’t look like I should weigh that much, but I need to lose a solid 80 pounds, then I will look like a body builder……. ;)

The Grouse on my property doesn't have a crush on me, now I'm sad.
I do wish the Snipe would come back, I love those little guys.

Cool bird, it must have the patience of a saint.

The camp looks great. My parents used to have a mountain property that resembled that. No lake though. Come to think of it, no indoor plumbing, no real heat (wood cook stove), cold water only during the summer season. Like camping with windows.

Great kid fun there! Glad they sold it, too much to maintain in old age. Besides, they made a ton of money on it.

Back problems are no fun, seems like they last for years too.......

Been a long day, I had to unload the little kubota tractor, then I hit the Hill and unloaded the scrap steel, technically I transferred it to the other trailer that is going to the scrap yard tomorrow. After that I put the new battery in the lawn mower and got it going, started to mow, had to move a burb and the other dump trailer, got the main portion of the lawn mowed, then had dinner with one of my Friends. Tomorrow is going to be a busy day, got to get some sleep.

Great pic of your Dad, Strouty! He looks like he's having fun.

I know you've had your issues, but I hope you still have good times hanging out with him.

Dad and I have a good time when he isn’t playing games with me, it happens from time to time.

The problem with that camp is that 200’ from there is my Dad’s camp and I don’t feel like interacting with his wife while trying to take a break. :(

It is an older 5 ton military truck that we put a bigger engine in and bigger dump body on. He wanted the super single tires like the newer trucks have, so he was swapping them, rim and all.

Got the scrap steel dumped, then had to pick up some railroad ties, they wouldn't help load them, my back is now a bit mad at me. :(

I am shuffling trucks now, hook up some trailers and load a few more things, then off to the Salvage Garage. My plan is to try and assemble the pallet rack, but I am kind of doing things a bit backwards. I figure if I get a few of the uprights assembled, then I can still move them later. My main goal is to get all the trucks and trailers out of the back forty, there will still be a few things out there, but I will need to bring clark or the mitsu over to get those things freed up. This is more about the office trailer, the ford with the Knuckleboom, and the 5 ton and trailer. That will allow me to start cleaning things out, I want to sell the office trailer and there is a lot of junk that needs to be sold, scrapped, or trashed.

Getting rid of the scrap, trash, and unwanted sounds like a great way to start. As soon as I finish the brakes on the GF, it's time for me to list some stuff. Got to get things cleaned up, cleared out, and finished off.

Kev would be proud, I told the guy with the dually suburban that I wasn’t going to be able to make the trip, also decided I am going to fix the engine I. The white 454 Burb rather than replace it, this way it still has the factory engine. Will probably cost a little more, but I feel it won’t look out of place when it comes time to sell it.

I am going to still put a bid on the 33k mile diesel Burb and just hope that I can make that happen.

This weekend I think I am going to stay close to home and just concentrate on cleaning things up, with the holiday weekend no need to deal with traffic anyways. I also have more than enough things to do. ;)

Same here. No time off, just continue to work. One of these days I'm just going to say, "NOPE". Then I'm going to sit down a read a book.

So the other day I was at Dad’s shop and they had been messing with cement from the tanker trailer that he wants to scrap. He was having my Cousin shovel it into these bags to save it. The bags have liners, but definitely not ideal. Made a huge mess, essentially blocked the entire front of his shop. This was only part way through the process.

Today I come in and my Dad and Cousin are at the Hill in the Quonset hut.

ab34566ec5e741000d0ed9ebad6aa160.jpg

Good thing we installed that pallet racking to put all the pallets of stuff on!??! I guess that means the Quonset hut is now effed, I have no place to put the pallets of things he wanted to keep, so the other half of the hut’s floor is covered with pallets and random ****. To be fair, each one of these bags is worth almost $100 if you bought the cement new, but Dad spent about $30 on the bags and three or four days shoveling and handling the cement. Totally worth it, especially now that there is no place to put anything again! I actually told dad that he need to take them all down because he forgot to put the rebar in them, since they will probably be hard as a rock by the time he wants to use them. :(
If you was closer I could have that gone tonight. Two loads of portland a week is all that anyone can get around here right now.

Legend, that one is cool because of the quadrasteer option.

Allen, I wish you were closer too, would have been nice to have someone put it to use.

Today was a long day, didn’t get what I had originally planned done, but we did get a lot of things done and figured out. Very productive overall. We pulled the batteries out of the two junk forklifts, pulled parts off, and cut some pieces off too. There is a mess outside now, but things are ready for the scrap yard. We also shuffled the trailers around so everything is accessible and the Ford Knuckleboom is useful. Unfortunately, none of the pallet racking got put together. :( I can’t complain though, it was a busy day and I feel good about where we left off.

You have to be careful with forklifts, they sink really quick when you hit a soft spot.

This is what happens when you hire a certified forklift driver, surprising that they didn’t flip it first
