A few of us have talked about this. It would be better, in my opinion, if it took you to the last again. If you're going to re-read something in a thread you've just caught up on, it's more likely the most recent posts, not from weeks or months or years ago. If you like to log in, catch up on all your favorite threads, then go back to start replying to some of them - answering questions, posting a requested photo, etc, the next time you open the thread, it takes you back to page 1 post 1. On mobile the only way I have found to get to the end again is scroll all the way down and hit the >> button. Desktop is a little easier. You can just hit the highest page number before you open the thread.

It seems like the software wants you to read-reply, read-reply, read-reply, etc, instead of read, read, read, do some work, think it over, eat lunch, find the shop book with the answer to someone's question, take a picture of the rare tool someone thinks they also found, then reply, reply, reply.

What I learned on another xf forum is if there are new posts in a thread and you click the thread title, it will take you to the last read. If you click the thread title again and there are no new posts since you last looked at it it takes you to page 1 post 1, and if new posts obviously it'll just take you to that new post. vb used to flag posts by login/site visit time, xf updates real time.

Yes, as I said in the post you're quoting me from. It wasn't a question. I was saying that I think that's illogical and undesirable for reasons I'm not going to repeat. Ryan agrees, but it's beyond his control. I am learning to live with the workarounds.

OK, found another cool new feature. When you open a picture attached to a post, you can zoom it! I hated that you couldn’t do that on the old site. I always had to “open in new tab” to make a picture zoomable.

Not sure why at this point, but traffic has spiked pretty seriously… which is great obviously, but is making tuning pretty difficult - especially with the images.

Could it be search bots that are catching up to your changes?

No... it's real traffic. The increase in pageviews is higher than the increase in uniques - but both are considerably higher. I think maybe the novelty of a new site is having some effect.
Like a kid with a new toy. I know I spent waaaay more time on here for the first few days of the upgrade.

Any chance this is due to the switch from Tapatalk?

Not sure how traffic was recorded with that....

just curious if the posting is up too?

Not sure as that's not something I normally look at, so I don't have anything to compare it too... It seems like it to me, but I had another user tell me the thought the postings were down.

Are the HAMB members coming over to visit the site since it has a new format to compare with their regular forum ?

I haven't made any real announcements over there.

The new format looks great, can't wait to explore it more once I get better internet signal. I live in a remote area and my internet is very weak, sadly the pages load slower with the new format, sometimes taking a minute or so to load a page, the old format was faster.

This is odd....

I was in a rural area last week, typically have very little (if any) data connection. Page loaded super quick, in fact was the only page I could access.

Yep... The new site is far more efficient than the old. If anyone is having speed issues, it's ISP related... and not related to the site.

That said, we were tuning the site last week and while doing so, the performance fluctuates.

It seems slightly better today, when your internet is as weak as mine is, you really notice the little differences in connections. Great job on the site, my speed comes back up on the 11th, then I can really see what all is here.

Sorry, I may have missed something but is garagejournal no longer on Tapatalk? Is it just off of it right now or is there another similar app that we need to use now?
Thanks

Apparently you missed it. Ryan is no longer using Tapatalk. They wanted access to members data and he basically told them to piss off

I believe alot of members are simply using the browser version.

Check out the Sticky at the top of the page.

It’s now official… The Garage Journal App has been removed from app stores and we no longer support Tapatalk in any way.

Was able to figure it out, chrome had tapatalk set as the default app to open the garage journal forum link. I had to reconfigure and set chrome as the primary app to open up the forum. This resolved the issue incase anyone runs into the same problem.

Looks good! I made the move from vBulletin 4 to Xenforo on my site (not related to tools/DIY, for what it's worth, but tangentially related to building/construction) two and half years ago, and regret not doing earlier.

What kind of theme are you using? How about the front page? I'm looking for something like that for the message boad I run.
