lots going on at the farm that is for certain. buying new equipment, building a new home for you and the family and having a drone to do fly overs to take pics of all the goings on. also managing to get in family time too.

keep up the great work and really enjoying the pics and comments you probably have no time to post, but you do.

with all that high tech wiring coming in sounds like you'll also be able to gear up your farm like you help so many others do on your regular job.

Need a LOL?

Nephew purchased a new 10 wheel speed rake. After two visits by the dealership and several days use, could not figure out why rake kept balling up in one spot. 86 y/o Dad rolls up in his Lincoln and asks "why is one wheel backwards from the other nine?" LOL

I got a kick out of when you said the bears are north of you when there's bears in Oklahoma and Florida :)
Well "technically" there are bears North of us ..... :lol_hitti

A man and his drone, another nice shot!
I like this thing

Well you certainly have your colors figured out. Hay Equipment is red, tractors are green, and combines are red (mostly!).
Are you still planning on doing large squares with the round bales now?
That X9 1100 is pretty sweet but our 2388 does what we need to do. It's paid for so that gives it bonus points

You need one of these to go with that new baler...

That is a sweet unit !!! We don't make wet bales so we wouldn't use it much. We have a neighbor that makes all his alfalfa as wet bales and has a fancy Claas baler that has a wrapper on the back of it. Spendy unit but works well !!

As far as battery lawn mowers.... EGO 56 volt mowers work awesome, EGO leaf blower also awesome.
Never heard of EGO stuff. I looked it up and seems like they've been around for a while !!

Cool overhead shots! looks like you and pop stay pretty busy
Just pretty busy. No big deal :hellobye:

That bale wrapping machine is pretty slick. There seems to be an expensive piece of machinery for every task on the farm. All it takes is $$$. 💰💸

Jay
Lots and lots of money. The toys that money buys are quite fun to play with though !!!

Lots going on indeed. I hope I do not go insane this summer with all that is going on. We're going camping this coming weekend and I am REALLY looking forward to some time where the most stressful thing is wondering if the beer is cold. Gosh I'm excited for that !!!

Most mechanics drive junk because they don't want to fix their stuff up. I guess as an IT guy I have a hodge podge of stuff that works but is mostly oudated and a lot of it is preowned lol. It's all good though. I'm stoked to have fiber run between all the buildings !!

Happy Father's day to you and give your old DAD a WELL DONE from me cause he's not only a great example he raised a great son to follow in his footsteps.

Thanks dude !! I am proud to have been raised the way I was :)

Looks like Dug the mini-ex is marking his territory in the kitchen lol
51262219347_8112ccfb59_b.jpg

Time to place the shower wall !!!
51262219272_5f508642f9_b.jpg

It's in place !! Whoo hoo !!!
51262219237_5a1bcd2bf1_b.jpg

Well neat. We'll have a 3,000lb shower wall :lol_hitti
51262946601_4e77012642_b.jpg

It seems silly to build the house around the shower but I guess that's what we'll be doing !!

We're finally getting some MUCH needed rain !!

Another new toy ?!?!?!??!?
51265699619_75d3bbef6d_b.jpg

Nope. The local phone company guys came out today to run a 12 fiber line and a flooded Cat6 from the pump house to steer barn and then to the chicken barn. Whoo Hoo !!
51265999235_05062b4450_b.jpg

They dug out and found a few other things underground so I asked them to leave the hole open so the electrician doesn't have to redig it to find stuff back again. The orange stakes mark the pipes underground.
51264961521_b69f92b045_b.jpg

They **** up my nicely coming in grass but tis the price of progress I guess ....
51265151993_504daeeede_b.jpg

They used some scraps to do the fiber runs and had a BUNCH left at the end of a roll and here it lays until they come back tomorrow.
51265699569_e1aa48fab7_b.jpg

Dug into the steer barn .....
51265151878_6fc2813966_b.jpg

Dug into the chicken barn and coiled up for now.
51265151943_90f7cdea37_b.jpg

This is the stuff they burry along the road to get it to our houses so I'd imagine it's decent stuff. I don't care I guess. For what they are going to charge me to do this there is no way I could say no !!!

Ok. Shower wall? In this part of the world our showers have three walls. But that only has a foundation for what just got erected. So what is it really?

Yeah, I'm giggling that I used that word too.:D

I was in at the wholesalers one lunch time and there was an older fella at the counter asking for a telephone cable joiner box. The presented a standard cable joint box and he says in very broken old Italian english....."No No No, dis one for da big blue cable" and makes his fingers show a circle about 1.5" in diameter....he had dug up a major optic fiber (govt. main) cable that passed under his property. We followed him out of the store and were headed in the same direction. By the time he got back to the farm there were about 50 contractors with a lot of very big equipment digging a very big hole. The next morning they were still working on repairing the fiber.
Note: .....and of course this cable is not on the "dial before you dig" register.

That is the "short wall" on the entrance side of the walk in shower in Mama Bears master bath. The foundation is really only to hold it in place until the floor gets poured around it to keep the shower wall fully erect. Tee hee.

any concerns on it moving/settling at different speeds that the rest of the house? it's got its own lil sub foundation there not connected to the footer right? how will you seal it between the shower floor pan and the granite?

I'm not worried about it. The ground under it is packed so hard the mini-ex was lifting up when I was digging in. It's packed really well down there. As far as sealing it, Mama Bear has some stuff they use at work that will bond literally anything to anything and when she showed it to our builder he said "Ooooo !! I've heard about this stuff !!" So I think they've got it all worked out. :dunno:

Showers with Mamma Bear should be fun if that wall/granite stays (you know).

have a great 4th of July weekend!!
Things would have to get pretty rowdy to move a 3,000lb piece of granite that is cemented in :bounce:

We were going to go camping but decided against it as it's going to be mid 90's and humid. The kiddos decided they wanted a pool party in the shop instead. Not sure about that but why not. There is a floor drain and a faucet so may as well try it out !!

Boy oh boy have we been busy around here lately. I like it and hate it all at the same time. Trying to get my time in at the off the farm job is getting harder and harder every week it seems as I really want to stay around here and do stuff but that doesn't keep the banker man happy. "It looks good to have a job if you're going to take out a home loan" he says. Yeah yeah yeah. Makes sense .....

Pops got more meadow hay cut on Friday.
51283296987_987c9c600d_b.jpg

Om nom nom nom !! This mower works very very well !!!
51284045306_7d85321f32_b.jpg

Time to go camping !! Well, last weekend that is. Someone forgot to put the tabs on the camper ... for the last 2yrs ... so a sweatshirt got hung on the license plate all weekend :rolleyes2
51285066845_f9be351a04_b.jpg

Potatoes, eggs, BACON and Texas Toast French Toast for breakfast
51284045631_cf2aace8fa_b.jpg

We were making sandwiches for lunch and Alyssa apparently got too hungry to wait so she found something else to munch on :lol_hitti
51284219108_da44e818eb_b.jpg

Miss Lily fried the potatoes for Sunday morning breakfast. Mmmmmm they turned out amazing !!!
51284218938_4752d8e74f_b.jpg

Smores while camping. Well duh !!!
51285066680_e57fa3b71f_b.jpg

The brown hose is for poo. Gross. The bathroom in the camper sure is handy though.
51284218673_2e1c8f9fb5_b.jpg

Back home Sunday and it's time to bale !!
51283297827_dc089e985a_b.jpg

I am blown away at how well this baler works. Windrows that barely fit under the tractor and it eats them at 6mph without issue. Crazy !!
51283297792_38ccf789d0_b.jpg

The picture doesn't do this justice at all. The baler was sinking in 10" in spots and I could see the ground shaking when I opened the gate to let the bale out. Nuts !!
51284219603_8e68178440_b.jpg

Squashy .....
51285067365_ea079203f7_b.jpg

Pops went out with the 7630 and a 3pt hitch mounted bale carrier to get them out of the wettest areas.
51285067275_af0c2bf520_b.jpg

One little bale at a time
51284219503_a0bf7b00cc_b.jpg

Since I was loading them up to be brought across the creek I only loaded one layer on the trailers. 16 bales at a time is still moving right along.
51284768504_fccb6e0525_b.jpg

Well okay .... 17 bales :lol_hitti
51285067285_2e5ec0f5fc_b.jpg

Progress on the house FINALLY !! The plumbers got all the underground done. Whoo hoo !!

Great to get out and get some fun time with the family and looks like you had some filling chow. might I add that we really missed not installing a bench in our new shower when we remodeled the bathroom here. the OLD BENCH was a KEEPER and even though my bride enjoys that sort of stuff she didn't think a bench would fit in the new shower cause we added a jacuzzi tub so shower was a bit smaller. it's good to have a rest or a different position while SCRUBBING YOUR FEET (hee hee).

cheers and have a great weekend!!

No wonder Deere sells so many big tractors if it takes such a big one to move that tiny bale. :lol_hitti :lol_hitti

Man that sure is a different style of camping than what we are used to here. Here the campgrounds are mostly heavily wooded so there is some trees/bush between campsites.

Did you sell the big square baler?

Peppered a bit with wisdom and seasoned just right with innuendos.

:lol_hitti:lol_hitti The 7630 worked great to carry the bales out !! Pops drove over the ruts I made with the baler and leveled it all back out. I think a more appropriately sized tractor would have made more ruts so it turned out well. Plus, that was the smallest tractor we have that wasn't hooked to the baler and didn't have a loader :lol_hitti

We were on the outside edge of the campground so there were less trees and such. This is a fairly open place though, you can see from one end to the other .... for the most part. We've been to campgrounds like you describe where there is no open space and your site is carved out of the trees, bushes and bugs. They are nice as well though !!!

The big square baler is still around. We're tossing up selling it but are not sure yet.

My BIL bought some corn straw and wanted to borrow my spinner spreader so I got him all loaded up yesterday.
51291334725_edcfeaa867_b.jpg

Then I got creative while hauling bales home from the meadow :bounce:
51289576642_ebd81633c0_b.jpg

Look at that nice stack of three bales .....
51289576912_a652786fa2_b.jpg

Gosh works great !! The strap holds the top bale from falling between the upright posts so I can haul *** while hauling three bales at once !! 2,700lbs of hay up there and it didn't hardly notice. I really enjoy using this skiddy !!!
giphy.gif

We had a customer use only a partial tote of soybeans so I set them on top of the grinder mixer and used the scale on it to weigh them. It worked very well !!
51290502203_c1bfec471a_b.jpg

So well that I weighed a few other things :lol_hitti

This is the wettest part of the meadow that is left to bale. Squashy for sure !!
51297433988_42805d1c69_b.jpg

Well I didn't get stuck and Pops got all the bales out already.
51296512787_ed64a3d001_b.jpg

My **** cheeks clenched pretty tight when the baler broke though the sod and went down far enough to get mud inside the rim :scared:
51298269120_e44ed9d602_b.jpg

When the baler sank away it threw all kinds of dirt clods on the tractor. Felt like I was getting pelted with little mud balls. At least it pulled though through !! I think I'll be putting the duals we have for the large square baler on the round baler. It'll keep it from sinking and dogging the tractor down so badly and it should carry better so it doesn't throw mud at me anymore !!
51297257621_6617710558_b.jpg

We were looking at the house the other day and a "little birdie" was walking on the ground in circles so I picked it up and held it for a bit. Little Man wanted to pet it so why not lol. I set it back down after a while and it flew away right away. Must have just been lost or something :dunno:
51297969434_f0f88d2b23_b.jpg

More progress on the house !! Foam and pipes were put down yesterday.
51297510343_18dafae538_b.jpg

They poured the house portion and inside the safe room today.

I am just fascinated with the first wall of the shower. Please keep documenting that, along with everything else. I'm intrigued with how it was placed so early in the construction, and how the rest of the shower will be built around it. And... well, I'm just full of questions.

Unless it's something else entirely, and you're just pulling our legs. But 'shower wall' is just about the best explanation I could think of anyway.

No worries !! I'll keep taking pictures. It's fun !! The shower wall was placed right away because it weighs ~3,000lbs and we couldn't figure out how to get it in there after the house was up and walls were in and it was the right time to put it in. So we dug a foundation and put it in right away I guess :dunno:

Here are some pictures with the sunken floor to show a rough outline of the rest of the walk in shower.

The concrete crew got the garage floor poured today. Very little drama. No stuck trucks like yesterday
51301467799_547010a8a9_b.jpg

Being 60' in the air this camera doesn't focus well because it's always moving just a little bit on the TV antenna it's mounted on. You get the idea though !!
51301467889_fef5e52bb0_b.jpg

Even blurrier is us having our first family meal on the new house. DQ BBQ Chicken strips ..... mmmmmm ......

Pops and I cleaned the whole barn out this morning !! This bigger skiddy and 8' bucket really make short work of this !!

See? Now I'm all confused again. Who has a 3000lb wall in their shower? I know, you do (or will). But, but, but... :D

We will !!! It started as a "Wouldn't that be neat?" and we figured out how to do it so there it is !! Mama Bear works at Cold Spring Granite and they do TONS of granite work all over the country and she wanted some granite accents in the house. We got the piece for almost nothing because we found it in their scrap yard. I don't think we're into it for over $100 with fuel and everything so far.

Think of it along the same lines as putting your tools in Husky boxes instead of wooden mismatched toolboxes. A regular wall would work fine but the granite chunk has a cool factor. The wooden boxes worked to store tools but the Husky boxes are a nicer. Plus the granite wall will help us stay organized vs a regular wall just like your Husky boxes vs the wooden ones. Okay, the analogy isn't perfect but it's the best I can do on a Monday morning !!

Same !!!!!

any guesses on what to use this for?

1626036144027.png

back up alert or alignment positioner????
Nope. It is a remote activated "I'm low on beer now" box. Place them all over the house so they light up when you press the remote button and your kids will know to bring you a cold one.

Mike, I love that the garage footprint is just a bit bigger than the rest of the house. I realize it isn't two stories and the shelter takes up some of your space but still, well done!

Ok, that makes perfect sense. It's also sort of like the reason people climb mountains. "Because they're there" - so you have a 3000lb wall because you had access to one at little to no cost. Got it. Thanks for humoring me with an explanation. (y)(y)

If that baler went through the sod with those floaters on it, I'd be clenched too, and probably sweating profusely despite the AC! Probably a good thing the tractor had duals on. Front end go down much?

I suppose for you, the worst case scenario is you have to get the STX325 out there with the big recovery rope. That'd leave one hell of mess in the hay meadow, though.

Is the safe room where you put all your golden eggs from all those chickens you raise. Or is it common in your area to have one of these for family to ride out a storm or robbery?

I bet things are growing nicely out in the fields snd in the barns. Yes? And your family is getting bigger by the day too. I bet mamma bear is happy seeing her home come up out of the ground?

sorry to hear bus floor cracked but maybe s good time to install hardwood flooring.

cheers

how about now?
That makes way more sense. It's a remote controlled "Honey I'm home !! See the lights flashing and the buzzer buzzering !! Get ready I'm coming in after a long day of hauling grain and missing the dump pit all day by just 'that much' so I'm all tuned up and want to tell you about it !!" sort of device. Yup. Has to be it :lol_hitti
Mike, I love that the garage footprint is just a bit bigger than the rest of the house. I realize it isn't two stories and the shelter takes up some of your space but still, well done!
This is going to garner a bunch of "Uh-Huh" _Oh yeah" "Mmmmhmmmm right" sort of thoughts at the screen you're reading this on BUT ..... the garage being that big just sort of happened that way with very little nudging from myself in the house design

Ok, that makes perfect sense. It's also sort of like the reason people climb mountains. "Because they're there" - so you have a 3000lb wall because you had access to one at little to no cost. Got it. Thanks for humoring me with an explanation. (y)(y)
Same reason people drink Fireball Whiskey. Because it's there :lol_hitti

The tractor carried well but was sinking in quite a bit. I'm surprised it didn't drop like a rock and plant itself like a baler tree. Gotta see if it grows

We helped a neighbor unstuck his 7210r and 469 Deere a week or so ago from a meadow he should not have been in. It took a Deere 8640 4-wd and a Deere 8440 with LOTS of chains to get it to come out. Just a damn mess !!!!

Golden chicken eggs :lol_hitti

If I find an egg in the chicken barn I think I'm gonna call it quits !! They're broilers, no eggs are suppose to come out of them ... just yummy chicken wings, legs, thighs and other tasty bits. Mmmmmmm .......

Things in the fields are not doing so well. We've had about 1.75" of rain in the last 2 MONTHS only so we'll be having the poorest year in a LONG time around here. I think we'll get enough grain corn to feed the steers this fall but I don't know yet. That'd be 50bu/a or so. I do not think we'll average over 100bu/a this year, not even close at this rate. Right now the corn is tasseling and starting to set cobs so if it doesn't rain a substantial amount very soon, and it doesn't look like it is going to, the fate of the fields will be sunk soon. It ***** but it's a risk we take every year the moment we say "Hey !!! Let's play farmer again this year and see what happens !!" Toss a few hundred grand into the ground and hope it isn't too hot, too cold, too dry, too lots of things. Well it's been too dry so far BUT we're no where even close to as bad off as some others in the Western US right now. Not much we can do but pray for rain ... for all of us !!!

Mama Bear is quite excited to have the house project underway. Quite may be underselling it. She's downright giddy and giggly about it really

Mama Bear and I went to a Colt Ford concert on our anniversary and we found a bunch of my co-workers there as well !! I had to show them all I knew how to drink Busch Lite and perhamps got a tid bit squirrely by the end of the evening. It's been a while since I've consumed so much of that delicious nectar and I felt rather squashy for the entirety of Sunday. Grrrrrrr ...... it's a reminder to not try to show EVERYONE how good I am not at drinking beer :rolleyes2

The kiddos have been asking for a pet for a while and we decided to get them one. They've named it Tiffany. I told them we needed to go to breakfast at it's place and they gave me blank stares as if they were screaming "Dad, you're sooooooo bad at jokes" :lol_hitti

Got stubborn weeds to kill ?? Let LeRoy add the product into your yard sprayer. We figured a double rate should toast things quite nicely and we were right !!

On Sunday Pops and I brought the tractor shelves and tractors over to the shoffice. The little ones were a mess so I took them all out and sorted through them.

It didn't take long and I had them all back in line again !!

The dirtwork guys took a bit much out around the house when the leveled off after they got the foundation poured so we brought some fill in. I think we brought 4 loads back and called it quits. It was crazy hot and I was sick of peeling my shirt off myself. Yuck.

We weighed the largest 3 pens of steers to see where they were and I was very happy to see a bunch of them were averaging over 4lbs/day of gain since the last weigh in over 3 months ago !!

Looks like the National Guard is out and about for some reason. There was a bunch of helicopters that flew by over the course of a few hours. It was pretty neat !!

We got all the test plot signs up a few days back. It was a tremendous amount of work but turned out pretty nice

I decided to carry the last bale home from a meadow I baled one evening last week and forgot to wrap it before kicking it out

Those foam cannons are the cats posterior for washing equipment.

Hard to tell, but are your plot signs the one piece posts? If so do yourself a favour and get the two piece signs. SOOO much easier to put in.

1/64th scale shelves and models look great in their new home. Sorry to hear about your lack of rain. We've done fairly well down here, but there was some hail damage done that really ruined some nice stuff. I'll try and send some rain north for ya.

We didn't have enough of the two piece signs for the entire plot so we used the one pieces ones so they all looked the same.

That foam cannon deal sure worked well !!

"Drier than a popcorn fart" gets close. We got about 1/4" of rain today and that's the first notable rain in about 4 weeks :headshake

Looks like you are having a lot more fun than the crops.
Those family outings are PRICELESS!!

it hasn’t rained here in a while either so maybe you need to see how to use water from wet areas of fields to dry ones if possible or do you own one of those huge sprinklers.
I bet new phone or internet lines into your buildings is like heaven with your tech knowledge so don’t have too much fun while you wire up the farm.
