I am trying to figure out a layout that would allow access to them without too much trouble. I haven’t figured it out yet, I have a lot more stuff to move, so I may be able to make room. I can see that I will need to assemble the pallet rack that I got earlier this year, I don’t have enough room to put all the pallets in reach and a lot of the stuff isn’t something I want way out back. I can put two of the knaack boxes on top of the Conex boxes and still be able to get them down. It is just one of those tough things, trying to figure out where all the little things go…

You go through this every fall, literally spending at least a week playing this game. Maybe spend some time throughout the spring/summer making it so you never play this game again? I'm playing the game this year, but once I get the '03 S'crew running, and the cab off the '52, I expect I'll never have to go through this again. That would give you quite a bit of useful time back.

Since last fall I have added about 10 units to the property, so I have to reconfigure things regardless. The plan for next year is to have gravel out there, so you don’t need special equipment to move something, I mean I like special equipment, but I don’t want to “NEED” to use it, I just “WANT” to use it if I feel like it.

I think you are onto something by combining the lista wall and pallet racks at SG. I would think that more of your builds would happen there as opposed to the hill.

Still so crazy to me the preparation needed up north for snow. Sometimes when it snows here I don't even clear off the car since it will melt the next day or maybe even that afternoon.

I hope you're able to accomplish what you want to and make the necessary improvements so you can stop organizing/shuffling of projects and start building trucks, burbs, etc.

Overall picture of where things were when I started really moving things today.




This is the area I was concentrating on, I am going to try and fit five trailers parallel to the yellow conex.




I have to move some of this steel around to make my plan work, also think I should send some to the scrap yard too. It all depends on how much time I have, I am going to Connecticut and Massachusetts on Thursday to pick up some goodies, luckily they are small, so it won't be setting me back too much.

I took the time to remove the forks from Benson, I really want to get him inside as that is one of my projects that I want to start on this winter.



Then I shuffled trailers and got out the heavy duty stubby yellow trailer, then I set the dump body on it, it is going to be a great setup. My Brother is keeping the expanded metal, I wanted to do something different anyways, definitely lighter duty and probably more removable.

How many acres of woods are there that can be clear cut for more room? How tall can you build a parking structure? How many man hours are spent year round “ moving” the running and non working burb /truck/trailer/lifts/others ?

There are no more anythings to clear, my space is an acre and that is it. I think this year I spent a lot more man hours than normal, I thought I would be living at the Hill by now and working on Burb projects up there, so not only did I move the Burbs to the Hill, I also took them away because it was very clear I wasn't going to be getting to them anytime soon and the Hill is worse for winter storage and plowing as everything is tiered instead of flat like at the SG.

Not that I don’t enjoy reading about what you have going on now, but every now and again you leak some of your frustration about how you don’t get to work on stuff but get to move it around, again and again.

I spent time in the dark airing up tires on the office trailer and adding gas to Clark, I also moved a few more pallets and put away some suburban parts. I am set for tomorrow, so it was worth the extra time. I just need to get some sleep now, last night wasn’t great, probably got 4 hours and that isn’t enough to support 14 hour days.

Imagine what you could finish if you spent 3 months not looking once at a for sale website and worked on what you had. Look at the days spent traveling to pick up items to add to your collection of hopes and some day projects. I would think the satisfaction of having completed projects would far outweigh the stress of adding more. Sell off your scrap and junk trailers, have the entire back lot scraped of topsoil and gravel put down and organize the good items so you can easy get to what's needed. I love your content but my blood pressure goes up for you just seeing all of the direction changing and analysis paralysis you put yourself through. Put the blinders on and stay the course. .lol

I slept in a bit, grabbing breakfast, then headed to the Salvage Garage, looking forward to getting some of the trailers moved today, that will at least make it look and feel like I have made progress. I really wanted to shuffle the two existing trailers, but the amount of work it will take to make that happen is probably going to exceed the amount of ambition I have this week. If the ground freezes up and there isn't a layer of snow, I could move them later, but once it is slick, they aren't moving without help.

Tomorrow I am going to buy a "cargo glide" bed slide for a (the?) Burb, depending on how it functions, I may modify it to fit the blue one, if not, it will be for the white diesel that just needs some JB weld to put a piston back together. I want to keep the single rear fold down seat in the blue Burb, I feel that it would be better as there are times that my daily driver needs to move three people. The work truck (white diesel) doesn't matter to me, if I need more people we would bring to trucks. I know they make shorter ones, but I am not sure if they make one to fit behind the rear seats, if I can modify the bed slide to essentially be notched out allowing that one seat to stay, well that would be perfect.

I found a space space to put a few of the Burbs that is out of the way, the two that I put there are strictly parts trucks, so there is no need to access them this winter. I can also shove the suburban frame that I have been saving in there with them, should help out space wise a lot. Then I think the Army truck is going to get hooked up to the blue trailer, as it has pieces and parts on the deck that may need to be used this winter. Lastly, I may try and move some stuff to the top of the Conex boxes, that should pretty much clean the yard up enough to plow. Only thing I don’t have a place for yet is Guido, it may need to go inside for now, I think one it snows, it won’t get around at all.

Sounds like you have it handled. So the question I have is what is the next project? And did I understand you right, that you're going to integrate the "new" rack and Lista wall together? And what is the status on the Perk?

Just finished reading all of this. Interesting stuff for sure. Without trying to come across like a jerk, what IS your final plan here? You seem to be gathering enough stuff to build all these wild projects, but it never seems that anything gets built. At this point, wouldn't it be easier and probably cheaper to sell everything you have, buy one nice new pickup, a completed knuckle boom truck, maybe a couple different size trailers? if nothing else, I'd think it would help with ones sanity. I get that we all have a few too many projects going on, but good lord, you are the king. Hopefully you get it sorted as best as you can before winter, almost done myself. Oh yeah, if you ever need to sell one of those deck over trailers let me know. Right next door in NH. Take care

No problems with being honest Banshee, it is what it is. I have definitely been doing better, at least the projects are a bit more systematic now. I think a good part of what I enjoy is the "hunt" for things and dreaming about the projects, I also have way too much going on in my personal life, that probably needs to be managed more than any of this random stuff at the Salvage Garage or the Hill.

I am about 2 hours from dark and I am getting close. I have to start getting the trailers put away, it ***** because I really only have Perk to move them, the Army truck can, but the trailer needs to be lifted over a foot just to get it connected and none of my jacks are the greatest. I will hook the army truck up to the easiest trailer, the one I set the dump body on, I can lift that with Clark no problem.

Must people up here dont spend that much time prepping for snow. I put my plow and counter weight on tractor. Few hours. Strouty is special in that regard .

Most of us collect too many projects and deal with them in different ways. I used to collect trucks and build them to a certain point of completion, then someone would make me an offer and I would sell. Now I'm tired and give up.
I've been following Strouty for several years now and I've got to say he has vision but life really derailed him for a while, he is in a better place now than he has been in a long time. This my be his year!

This year I was almost on schedule, but Rona and I had that big fight...

I try and have things wrapped up before turkey day, I will say that this year is actually working pretty nicely, this week has been fairly aggressive and I will probably feel the residuals from it next week. In the end, it will be worth the effort for sure. I am not posting any pictures tonight, I need to go to bed soon so I can be ready for tomorrow.

On a bad note, the Blue Burb needs an injection pump, it is not starting properly when the engine is hot, but it does look pretty............
