Spent the day cleaning the shop. Then used the gantry to load my friend's cnc machine back into his trailer. It'll be nice to have full use of my workbench again. Wife came out to the shop and said, "wow" at how much cleaning I had done. I almost have all of the useable countertops cleaned and useable again.

Took apart the pedel box and brake booster hardware for the 2002. Going to get it clean and powder coated. Rebuild parts (bushings, springs and pins) on order.

The Garage Shop radio was really sounding bad because I was getting some really bad reception.
So I pulled the radio out of its cubbie hole to check the connection and found I had it on a short wire antenna that came with the radio.
Furthermore, I had a coax connection ready to plug in from the TV antenna I have in the attic, above the foil sheathing blocking signals.
No brainer, plugged it in and no static of weak signal!!!!! Yipee!
Why the heck I had that little wire connected is beyond me!
So while I was at it, I hooked up my wifes old IPOD (she like sirrus radio now days) to the game input and now I don't need any stinking antenna...filled the IPOD with all our tunes and have commercial free tunes.....
Sticky velcro keeps it attached to the boom box...thing cranks out pretty loud and crisp...very impressed!
I listen to music on my phone or MP3 player but still find myself going back to the radio. Even with the little bit of static I still prefer good 'ol FM stereo.

I drug my old Atv out of the shed and hooked the snow blade up for the possible 12-18” we may receive. Forgot it seemed to be overheating last spring when I put it away so I added coolant and let the air burp out all seems well
Also filled 4 20# propane cylinders and 5 gallons of gas for the ATV if I need it

Spent the morning alternatively napping and staring at the computer monitor; when I sleep for only 3 or 4 hours after a long busy day i am wasted the next day.

I just started my sixth month of not being able to go out to my shop. I spent much of this time in hospital for a life threatening situation. I appear to be getting better and so does the weather. I hope to be outside and in the shop in a month or so.
I really appreciate all of the likes on this post. Some days I have a difficult time. I am pleased to say, every day is getting easier. My wife has been a fantastic support. I know she did not sign up for this, but, she has stayed with me. The sun was bright and the sky was clear, today, while the temperature remains just above 7c. The weather is getting better.
My dog has decided to be gentle with me. She is a Poodle and loves to rough-house. This dog seems to know I have changed, for now. We played fetch and catch in the family room, yesterday.

Made an even bigger mess while cleaning!
But got 2 more totes sorted through. Stuff separated.
Sorted through the “supplies” shelf and pulled off the old (but still good/usable) parts that I put up there last time I was here, and got them into totes according to make/model (Cummins in one tote, K1500 in another, etc etc). Those totes will go back to the pole barn.

I now have “room” to unload the tote of car care products onto the supplies shelf now that it’s not full of car parts.

The hope is to eventually have only vehicles/tools in the main garage. Spare parts, extras, projects, etc in the pole barn.

Baby steps haha

Worked on the new shop tool. So far I'm impressed with the quality of this Klutch branded weld table / workbench.

Outer only?
How much did it raise it up?
One outer spline should work out at about 50mm (2") but i think it'll be just over 40mm (1.5") due to sagging torsion bars.
It was a little too low with the towbar fitted and the crest on single car width roads caused it to scrape.
It'll probably settle a little once i've bounced it about a bit and rolled it around.

Wrapped up the mods to my Harbor Freight welding cart over the weekend. Only thing left is to ditch the rear wheels in favor of a pair of wheels off my tool chest.

I removed the center shelf and used it as a base to hold two bottles. Built a double holder and used the upright to hold tig rod.

Reworked a mini maglite removing acid from a battery leak. Nutts/Erik suggested dielectric grease so after cleanup I lubed everything in the battery compartment including batteries with dielectric grease and reassembled. Time will tell

Finally, finally, FINALLY got the exhaust manifold back on the F-350. This has been a multi-week project as I have dealt with rust, broken studs, welding, drilling, etc. I spent more time and money on this than is reasonable but I like the sense of accomplishment and the opportunity to work with my hands.

I'm really enjoying the new garage and am glad I built it despite the difficulties and expense. Having a dedicated place to work with all my tools within reach is something I haven't had in almost 20 years.

Now, as Andrew Camarata would say, "let's go on to the next project".

Vinegar goes a great job at removing the mess bad batteries leave behind, in case you didn't already try that?

Congrats on getting the garage built! And congrats on the exhaust manifold!

I have an 07 Dakota I have to swap manifolds on. But like your multi-week turnaround, I’m worried this will turn into such as well lol

Having a garage is nice, isn’t it? I grew up working in dirt out of an old chicken coop converted into a work shed. No overhead weather protection.

When I got my own place, the shed was nicer (concrete floor). I had a long strip of concrete to work on (10’x50’ appx) and an awning to work under. Couldn’t work in the summer past noon as you’d BAKE, and couldn’t work when it rained as you’d get SOAKED.
Now I have an attached garage and a pole barn I’ll be turning into a shop. I can actually work when the weather turns foul! It is amazing.

Good luck with your new build!

Began the restoration of my HF folding trailer by scrubbing 8 years of crud off of it.
It has been parked outside for 6+ years, the lights don't work, it's rusty, and the aluminum top is oxidized and stained. I'm going to tear it completely apart, reinforce it, weld some new hinges, rewire (from flat 4 to round 7-pin) with new LED lights, and then repaint it. Maybe I'll even powder coat the rims a different color.

I already replaced the wheel bearings with Timken + bearing buddies + new radial tires.

Stay tuned...

Finally able to go through my road box.

Filled some gaps in my main box with some from the road box. Consolidated the road box to only one of each size or so. Also pulled out the doubles and triples, and unnecessary (ie spark plug sockets. This is my Cummins box).

Went through my “extras” box and between IT and the road box, I was able to complete a set of 1/4” drive shallow metric and SAE for the road box.

Without all the unnecessary **** (ie: 5 3/4” wrenches because they were all slightly different length!) it is considerably lighter!

I clean with vinegar and lube with Vaseline, but dielectric grease should work fine.

Do yourself a favor and lose the alkaline and go with EverReady Lithium disposables. They never leak, last forever, (Iv'e had some go 20 years and still be good to go), and have a flat discharge curve, so you get more of the juice out before they die. I don't see a difference in operational cost (yes they cost a bit more per Each, but you GET more...)

I've even converted c and D cell devices using the 3 AA or 3 AAA parallel holders. (avoid the series holders; those get you a 4.5 volt "package"

Funny.... I just made the switch myself. Amazon delivered a 24 pack of AA & AAA last week! Hard to accept the cost of the 9V though.
I only have a couple of things left using C & D.

So tired of the CopperTop crud. The cheap price at Costco ***** you in though. But... No more!

Just an FYI dielectric grease isnt actually fully conductive, it shouldnt be applied directly to the terminals or ends of the batteries. Its meant to keep out moisture. It should still work but may not cause a solid connection.

I have wanted to post in here since I saw it a few days ago so this all wasn't "today" but I had a hell of a Friday with the blizzard approaching. My plow truck has been running rough the last few times I moved it around. I tend to neglect it all summer so its not surprising. I figured I would shove it in the garage when I got home from work and throw some plugs, wires and maybe fuel filter in. Plus the alternator has been slacking and whining along with a MAF that may have been acting up, so I figured instead of doing the right thing and troubleshooting I'll just throw parts at it. After shimmying it in from the side door and having it sticking out halfway I pop the hood and see coolant sprayed everywhere. I find out the water pump shaft has a ridiculous amount of play in it so my plans just changed dramatically. Long story short I was out there from 5pm to 1am replacing...Water pump, alternator, primary tensioner, idler pully, fan clutch, primary belt, thermostat, upper radiator hose, lower radiator hose, ac belt tensioner, ac belt, MAF, plugs, and wires. I had plans on doing this eventually and while it was all apart I just bit the bullet and got it done. Had to be at work at 6AM for storm duty, was able to get home and plow and it ran great.

Leading me to my latest discovery...appears debris isnt the only thing that gets by my ridge cap...

Not terrible but not ideal...

Also my new Vice Grip Garage Shirts came in...I think this is a message we all can agree with

Thanks for the input on the mini maglite. I will be picking up some lithium batteries cause I hate the coppertop mess! As an aside the pics were after a 48 hour scrub and soak in white vinegar, not much changed. Did I do something wrong?

I didn't do anything in the shop last night... but the wife made use of it to refurb a wall clock.

She had the sander going when I left with the daughter for softball practice. Wife even put up everything she used when she was done. She said I spent so much time cleaning it on Sunday that she wanted to help keep it that way.

I do have a confession to make. Out of the 10 studs that hold the manifold on my truck, I was only able to extract 9 of them. That 10th one was so hard that I could barely make a dent in it with cobalt and carbide drill bits. Maybe all the oxy-acetylene and welding hardened it.

As much as I hate to admit it, I gave up on that one and just put the manifold back on with 90% of the fasteners. There's no ticking, no rough running, and no check engine light so at least the task was accomplished. Still, I tend to be an overthinking perfectionist so it's not easy letting that go.

Too late now, but maybe you could have annealed the broken stud before giving up on getting it out.

Currently the right side exhaust manifold on my Explorer is held on by 7 studs. That final stud was just in too bad of a spot to drill effectively. It's been like that for several years now to no ill effect.
