While cleaning the shop I kept finding distributors, mostly small block Chevy (SBC). So I whipped up a couple of shelves to hold them. Just 2x4's and plywood with 1 3/8" holes. They are attached to my wheel racks which hold mostly mags but some early Ford. And above the wheels are seven pairs of SBC valve covers. Please ignore the 1966 BSA gas tank with the ugly lace paint job.

I reclaimed a bunch of lumber that was being used to make storage in the unfinished part of our basement when we had our radon system put in. Didn't have anywhere good to put it. So I used some of it to store the rest of it.

The house doesn't have a detached garage so part of the finished basement is my shop. Now I have storage for long boards that's out of the way.

The brackets are from Lowes, lagged into the studs with fastenmaster headlok screws. To make sure it doesn't sag and to increase the capacity, I ran some big eyes into the ceiling joists and made up some chain/turnbuckles to support the outer edge. They double as a stop to prevent boards from jumping off the shelf.

I mounted the brackets next to the crosswise supports to get that 1.5" of space back.

Not like I invented or planned this but I love my cubby shelf I picked up at a garage sale several years ago for unusual stuff that doesn't fit have a particular tool drawer. Fits the rustic workshop thing I was going for with the garage too.
Blackbird sighting. Nicely done

I've seen this thread a number of times, but it occurred to me that I don't think I ever described my storage solution. When I built my miter saw cart it required a fairly deep tabletop, which resulted in the adjoining benches to have an equally deep area which results in a lot of empty space underneath. I ended up building several pullout 'walls' that allowing me to mount tools vertically. I still love this solution even to this day. I posted this on imgur a while back...

That is a stylish and effective dust collection system, zippy ;)

Finally got around to making some simple melamine-coated doors for my hanging cabinets in my garage workshop. About to add some underslung craft paper and wiring rods to them, using plywood end brackets and PVC pipe. Stuff will hang above my big work table when it is docked to the wall under those cabinets.

Nice. You could create more storage space in that drawer by setting the two larger bits end to end and return the shorter bits to vertical storage among/alongside the larger bits.
The big issue with the vertical storage is I need to remake it everytime I add a bit. I really like the vertical storage but will try this, at least for now.

Decided I didn't like the storage I developed for my smaller fornister bits, also discovered I was likely only missing the 5/16... Revamped rack... Need to mount in the drawer. 20220703_175241.jpg20220703_175234.jpg

When I had my garage built, I reinforced the walls where I was going to hang things like ladders and put heavy stuff. i measured to make sure where it was beefed up so after the drywall was installed, I had things like I wanted
Do you mean you added blocking between the studs? How did you you reinforce the walls? I agree that just hanging stuff on drywall is a gamble.

Correct.

Control switch is in conduit on the wall now. Cable runs from the winch mounted at the ceiling, down the wall to a pulley to change direction and around a pulley on the panel and back to an anchor point on the wall.
Any chance you can take a picture of the backside showing the cable and pulley routing?
