Picked up a 6pk of small lambswool polishing pads at Horrible Fright this morning for working on the marks left on my ZX11 wheels by the failed clearcoat.
Gave them a quick try out & they did a great job. However, that's a project to finish during cooler weather.

So I plan on maybe getting some hooks to go into the rafters, but I also have to keep in mind that my wife wouldn’t be able to reach them without a stepladder so the wall kinda works for now.

I'm not sure I'd put my wifi equipment hard adjacent to my electrical panels or to a doorbell transformer. The amount of electrified metal has got to be both blocking signal AND generating RFI. The area right behind those two router / wifi devices is chock full of romex, just inches from your antenna. That's like trying to look thru the gaps in a wood fence, in terms of signal blocking.

Is there somewhere far from all that where you can put your wifi, at least for a test? All you need is an outlet and a long Cat5 cable. And you might find out your wifi doesn't actually ****.

Actually, moving the wireless master to there has improved the network performance immensely. Prior to the move my devices' favorite word was Loading....... It's totally counterintuitive. I just stuck it there temporarily til I could find a better home, but it's staying now.

Sorted through my drill bit assortment, on the floor... I dumped the full case of consumable bits and a full can of Pepsi when the workpiece I was drilling caught on the bit and swung around out of my hands. That was enough for today...

I put insulation on my garage doors probably 8 years ago and it has been helpful. I noticed the tape around the windows started to come loose. I got out my tape gun and it did great to put the insulation around the windows back in place. I only got one of them but will finish tomorrow. View attachment 1707145

Wire brushed and sanded rusty metal. Experimented with Beechwood Casey Super Blue I found in a cabinet. It has to be 10 years old but worked great.

Been fighting a gas leak from an -6 AN fitting under the '40 Chev. After trying to fix it with brass crush washers (as recommended by Pirtek), I was rewarded with leaking fuel after trying the fix 2 times. Knowing that insanity is doing the same thing over and over expecting different results , I decided to have Pirtek make me new fuel lines and am waiting on the bulkhead fittings to come from Summitt to put everything back together. With any luck . . . . . . .

I had bar clamps across the shop, not unreasonably out of reach, I just didn't grab them because I had a good hold on the piece for the first two holes. I'll get back to that project tomorrow, had to go to my parents' place to check on the boat and the mail. They're not back until Friday/Sunday.

Running out of time to mess with the bumper, but got it sanded, primed, painted and cleared. Gonna color sand it when I get back to Indiana. But the “patina” matches the truck lol.

Actually gonna resand and reprime it, as the duplicolor spray paint tips were junk. A lot of spitting and uneven coverage. And I discovered my bodywork skills are lacking lmao. But at least this gets it to look decent for the trip back home.

After months in the hospital, in ICU and 8 months of home recovery, I am starting to feel confident enough to try and make it to the garage. I made it half way to the shop, yesterday when the monsoon hit. Today looks like a better opportunity.
Getting old has been a terrible reward for a life well wasted.

Treadmill motors and electronics are good for powering other projects. I made a welding positioner from my wife's treadmill. The 90 volt DC motor powers the turntable and chuck. The screw-motor that raised and lowered the running surface, now operates the tilt. I had to mill out a new tone-wheel to trick the sensor and slow the motor by 50%.
I made a wheel holder from a trailer axle hub. This allowed the wheel to be rotated in both directions for polishing and painting. The wheel is a BBS super light alloy with a 1934 Ford hubcap. I had to put the BBS wheels in my milling machine and remove .062" (1.588mm) to make the Ford cap fit. I milled a detent in the wheel to capture the hubcap spring clip/holder.

Made the mistake of leaving the '51 Woodie wagon out over a Sunday night, forgetting that the irrigation system would start up. It had a bunch of water spots from that oversight. Spent some time with Griot's waterless car wash cleaning that up.
Started same process on '65 GTO in preparation for clay bar/paint correction/ceramic wax coming up.
Had to pull the rear seat out of the '40 Chev coupe to get to a fastener for the gas system repair I'm doing. Noticed a bunch of staples holding the leather had pulled out and some of the glue holding the custom buck together had failed. Have to wait to get my pneumatic brad gun from the lake house to fix the buck, but got most of the leather back in place with staples.

Got the bumper installed. Truck is dirty, but it doesn’t look too bad. Paint is “close”, and should do until I get the whole truck sprayed.

Save the plastic slider sheet under the belt - works GREAT for sliding under a car/truck... Better than a creeper.

Good grief, this ZX11 is trying to test my patience...
Got it all back together yesterday & it manifested another fault.

First it had an issue where pushing the starter *** would only result in a *click*.... Twice, then it would turn over & fire up on the third press of the ***.
But ONLY when there were witnesses, it would fire right up when I tried to diagnose the issue in the garage or it there was no one around when I was out on the bike.
Turns out the battery terminals weren't *tight*.. but they weren't loose either.
It's stopped doing that...

NOW (since yesterday) it spins over when I push the ***, but doesn't fire up until the third attempt... Not the 2nd or the 4th etc, ALWAYS on the third try..

And ONLY when there are witnesses. Yesterday it was another Kawasaki mechanic I worked with years ago. He couldn't believe how clean & *unfucked with* my ZX11 is... Then it took three attempts for it to fire up...
It fires up first press of the *** in the garage or if I'm out on the bike & there's no one around...

This bike has starter cut-off switches on the kick stand & the clutch lever. However, if they are faulty I *think* nothing happens at all when you press the ***. I need to investigate this. I know they can easily be bypassed with a jumper.

Just outside the garage....I cleaned the hydraulic pump on old Margaret. I am attempting to sell the hoist mechanism and someone is interested in the required pump capacity. I couldn't find an obvious tag, but did remove about 1/2 - 3/4" of dried grease and oil from the old girl.

Just repaired a buddy's generator last night. The new carb required me to adjust the governor spring to ensure it provides a consistent 120V at the output. When I first started it, the generator was giving 139V, so it was revving just a little too fast! Changed the oil and then called it a night. I'll clean up today and fire up the generator again to make sure it's fixed.

Next time I have the bodywork off the bike I need to wheel it outside & give the radiator some attention with degreaser. Not sure how long the fork seal was leaking, but the left side the rad looks like a Superfund site.

Riding down to the dealership tomorrow to pick up MORE parts (& partaking the free burgers).

Did some more garage rearranging late last night & this afternoon. I want my vintage work cart empty on top for tools & stuff.. & near the bike, not buried under shelving. MIddle & lower shelf on the cart need a bit of sorting to remove stuff that's merely stored so I can use them for "Tools, hardware & stuff that will likely get used in the not-too-distant future"

Cart was here, moved the plasma cutter there instead. It was in front of the cart before.



Cart now by the bench.. Chair & everything on it will be going away. In fact everything in front of those shelves on the right will be going *somewhere* with the exception of the cart & the stool.

Go kart rim doesn't fit the go kart. I'm an idiot and didn't measure right. Rim needs a 3/4" hole in it and it's only 16mm.

Told the son we'll go look at tractor supply and see if they have one tomorrow. If they don't we'll buy a 3/4" drill bit, mount the wheel on the mill, and bore a new hole in the middle of it.
