Great looking building project and property. The Foam insulation will defiantly help. My brother lives over in the New Hill area near New Hope Valley Railway. His wood shop has foam insulation. I try to get back there once a year usually around July for the Denton Tractor/Engine show or the Ken Eder show in November.

Thanks JP. I know that area well. The company that I work for has a plant in that area and I drove through there this morning.

Cool Chris. He has the sawmill operation on Beavercreek road across from the street with the RR crossing. There is an old farmhouse with a porch by the entrance

I know that area. Its on the left, if the RR is on the right side of the road. Does he sale rough cut lumber? I may want to get in touch with him. I think I want to do a rough cut finish for the inside of my walls.

He should be able to take care of your needs. I can pm his contact info if you want or just stop in when you are in the area. You can tell him you were referred by his Southwest rep

Beautiful property and garage. What are your plans for the inside?

Coyote, thanks for checking out my build thread.

Im going to assume you are asking how Im going to finish the inside. And not just what im going to keep in the shop. I will probably finish it over time. I cant afford to do it all now. Im considering spray foaming the inside of the roof and then doing a more traditional wall insulation covered with either plywood or rough cut planks. There may be a mixture of both. I will be building a large workbench in one corner so I will probably do some sort of finish behind that so that I dont have to move anything once its built. That will probably be my first project in the new shop.

As for what will be in the shop, I have a 1966 Mustang and a 1972 Corvette that will be residing in the shop. I plan on a lift at some point, but that is a future project. My Daughter plays competitive softball and we are planning on putting in a small batting cage.

I am really bad about taking pictures of my cars. I dont know why. I had a bunch on my old phone and can not find them anymore, but here is a picture of both of them together. The second pic was from a meet up to go to a poker run earlier this spring. If you notice, the hard top is on. Too much pollen here that time of year to go *******.IMG_0340.jpgIMG_2776 2.jpeg

Very nice! thank you for sharing. I really like both your 72 corvette and the mustang, red is my favorite colour for those cars.

I'm also a corvette enthusiast i've had my 88' since 2003, had it off the road in 2020 for a year and did an LS swap, paint etc...

D, thanks for sharing your ride. I saw on your thread where you mentioned it and posted pictures recently. Congrats on your recent trophy.

I cant wait to get in my shop so that I have room to work. I have so many projects lined up for both of them. I love to drive my cars and for that reason, neither of them are what I consider show worthy. They are both great drivers and the Corvette is probably the most show worthy. But I bought it at driver price and not a show car price, so it has areas that need some attention. That being said, the corvette needs a lot of work. Well, not mechanically speaking, but it needs a new interior in a bad way. The carpets are worn through in so many places. All of the carpet pieces in the luggage area are either missing or barely hanging on. I am also going to start tackling the vacuum lines. My headlights are really slow moving and the wiper tray doesnt move. I have a lot of the parts to redo it, I just have been waiting for the time and space to do so.

Found some of the Vette Photos:
IMG_3365.JPEGIMG_3366.JPEGIMG_3367.JPEGIMG_3368.JPEG

Those are all from the day we picked it up.

The Mustang is my pride and joy. I have had that car since I was a senior in high school. We bought it in the summer of 1994 and it has been through many weekend projects since then. It is a really solid car. Unfortunately, it sat for about 8 years when life got in the way. At my first house, I really didnt make time or space for it so it sat in my parents garage. During that 8 years, I had an older coworker that loved working on old cars. He had many cars and his sons had cars and they had finished a project and asked me if I wanted him to work on the Mustang. He said I could just pay him as we went and he would work on the car when he could. Originally, he was going to do some minor work and then do the body work. He had the car for a couple of years, and completed quite a bit of small projects, but he got sick and died while he had my car apart. So then I had to wait for one of his sons to put it back together and I went to go get it. They would not accept any payment from me so I got the car back and it sat for a little while longer. At that point, it was both better and worse than when he picked it up. He had completed a disc brake swap, but not had a chance to finish everything. Then I was keeping it a another friends shop and a tornado hit the shop. The car was fine, but I lost some of the parts that I was keeping there. Thats when I made room for it at my new house. I vowed to work on it myself under my own roof. Well, then, I started work on it. I replaced the suspension, did the shelby drop, new gas tank and fuel lines, new radiator, water pump, carb. And then I snapped off a carb stud and a water pump bolt. And it sat some more. A buddy of mine opened up a new shop and I decided that I had the money and not the time to finish my list of projects and I took it to him. He had it running within a couple of months and also did a rack and pinion swap on it and I have had it running and driving for the past 5 years. We updated the motor a little and its a really good driver. I swear to never let a car sit for that long again. At this point, the only thing left is paint and body. To be honest, I think I like it the way it is right now. I dont have to worry about scratching the paint or door dings or rock chips.

Very cool that you've had the mustang so long. I purchased my corvette back when I was in high school also.

Shop update: Final Electrical inspection is scheduled for Thursday. Lights have been installed, but since there is still no power I didn't take any photos. Also, met with my buddy that's doing the driveway. He should be able to come out this week or next to put in the driveway, a parking area and some gravel around the perimeter of the building. I will post photos of what I can.

Small update and a lot of frustration: Final Inspection was scheduled for Thursday Morning. The electrician came out on Wednesday afternoon and evening to look over everything and button everything up. While he was here, he rigged up the panel to and extension cord, just to test that the lighting was going to be what we needed. I was able to take a few photos, but these arent the best:

IMG_3379.JPEGIMG_3380.JPEGIMG_3381.JPEG

I'm happy with how its going to look.

On to the frustrating part. Of course the county wouldn't tell us what time the inspector was going to be there, and as luck would have it, no one was there when he arrived. I was told that he should be there in the afternoon, but he came at somewhere between 8-9am. I would have just gone in to work a little late if I would have known. Anyway, of course we failed the inspection. I spoke to my electrician who was finally able to get in touch with the inspector and the whole problem was the inspector had never seen the panel box that my electrician used. Since it was the inspector's mistake, he is going to try and get back out today and pass it. If not, the next available appointment is 9/23. So the saga continues:

Here is a shot of the panel, I have no idea the difference, but apparently my electrician loves these and they are supposed to be much more electrician friendly.

Looks great! I just had a 30x40 Morton building built this year and I'm loving it. I still have some finishing to do on the inside, next on the list for me is to get my radiant heat figured out for the winter.

Thanks Josh,

Your shop looks great. I have been watching your progress as well. Good luck on the radiant heat.

Hopefully this week i will officially be in it. Driveway work starts on Tuesday and we finally passed the final inspection so the meter should be here any day.

Beautiful shop Chris. Thanks for sharing and keeping this build thread going. Your pic of the lit up shop is awesome! If I get the opportunity in the next year or so, I’m fairly convinced that a Morton Building is what I will want or need. Sometimes I get my needs and wants mixed up!! Not too far from you here in far SE corner of Wake County -and a Corvette fan as well. Had a ‘71 two-top small block at UNC back in mid 80’s and now sharing a restoration of a plain Jane 64 Conv with my brother in Richmond. Patrick

Patrick, Thanks for following along. Morton is the way to go. I couldnt be more impressed with them from top to bottom. By the way, nothing too plain Jane about a 64 Vette.

Driveway has started. We got the base layer of crush and run in. We are going to let it settle for a week or so and come back with some 67s to top it and make it look a little better. IMG_3398.JPEGIMG_3399.JPEGIMG_3400.JPEGIMG_3401.JPEGIMG_3402.JPEGIMG_3403.JPEG

Friday my buddy was able to finish up the driveway. He put together a time lapse of the entire driveway building process, but the video is too large to post. Hopefully he will post it to his YouTube channel, then I will link it. He was able to pretty up everything and also put down a border around the building to help to prevent mud splashing up.

IMG_3409.JPEGIMG_3410.JPEGIMG_3411.JPEGIMG_3412.JPEGIMG_3413.JPEGIMG_3414.JPEGIMG_3415.JPEGIMG_3416.JPEG

I cleaned up some of the edges and pressure washed part of the building to get the mud off. I didnt take any photos of that. I was busy getting the yard ready for overseeding.

OUTSTANDING! Looks great inside as well with all the lights!

Thanks Scott. I have been sitting out there in the evenings, just trying to visualize where I want to put everything. Hopefully, my electrician will be back out this week to finish and clean up. That way I can start getting things in the shop. Im pretty sure this weekend will be a wash out with the Hurricane approaching.

The Electrician got all of his stuff out just in time for Hurricane prep. I was able to move all of the vehicles into the shop to ride out the storm.

IMG_3430.JPEGIMG_3431.JPEG

Living in Central NC we are generally used to dealing with Hurricanes. You almost expect to have wind and heavy rain every time one is forecasted. Our area was not hit too bad this time. We had some high wind, but had about 4 inches of rain on Friday afternoon, so there are sticks and debris everywhere. We lost power for a little over 24 hours. We had one tree fall. The tree fell from my neighbors yard over my driveway on Friday night during the heavy rainfall. We were able to get it cleaned up quickly Saturday Morning.

IMG_3435.JPEGIMG_3438.JPEGIMG_3442.JPEGIMG_3445.JPEGIMG_3436.JPEG

I was able to get out and play a round of golf Thursday afternoon before the storm and pre-hurricane sunsets are some of the most beautiful. I took these from the 18th fairway as we were finishing up.

Wow, your shop is looking great! Fantastic lighting in there.

Also great timing that you could move the cars inside before a hurricane.

Your driveway is looking good also. i've found on mine its amazing how much time and money goes into simply making a gravel driveway/parking area. i'm sure you have found the same.

Thanks, and yes, you would be surprised, well maybe not, at how much went in to that driveway. You would think it would be one of the least expensive projects. It was not.

Busy weekend around here this week. My Daughter's high school had their Homecoming Dance on Friday night. Since we have the shop, she invited a few of her friends over to have dinner and take pictures before the dance. We spent all Thursday evening cleaning the shop and putting together a photo back drop on one wall. It turned out pretty good and the kids seemed to have a lot of fun.

IMG_3450.JPEGIMG_3451.JPEG

IMG_3485.JPEG

On Saturday, I was able to do the first real vehicle repair in the shop. The alternator decided to **** out in my Daughter's 4Runner. I loaded up some tools and got to use my tool cart for the first time and knocked it out fairly quickly.

IMG_3486.JPEG

68695474529__F59440E4-2285-4FEB-BADC-14412BFBC220.JPEG

I spent all day on Sunday in the yard. I got all of the leaves and sticks up from last weeks storm and I was able to finish with my over-seeding. I also put out 5 bales of peat moss using a roller spreader.

IMG_3490.JPEGIMG_3493.JPEGIMG_3495.JPEGIMG_3499.JPEG

The fence and netting is to keep the dogs out. For some reason they love digging and rolling around in fresh dirt. And one off them loves this spot at the corner. He always digs there and only there almost every year. Its probably a futile attempt, but it will at least look good this fall when it comes in.

Shop and grounds continue to look great. As a spectator, now is the fun part seeing how you up fit the new beautiful space with workbenches, tools, etc!

Thanks. Yeah, Im really happy with it so far. I ordered the Armor Poxy Ballistix kit to seal the floors. I hope to get on that soon. I was hoping for this weekend, but that may not be possible based on how my week is going. Once the floors are done and cured, I will start moving the cars in and can start parking inside. I will be building a work bench and tool storage area once the floors are done.

Can't wait to see the floors once the Epoxy applied.
Thanks, me too. I pressure washed this weekend and waited a few days for the floor to dry. I think Ive been out there every night this week. I filled in all of the expansion joints with backer rod and a flexible sealant. I've also swept it about 10 times. I swear I feel like I cant get it clean enough. I had planned on knocking out the primer coat this week, but we have had a little cold snap that has delayed that. Our overnight temps have been in the high 20s, but by this weekend the temps are going back up. Since it has to cure for a week, Im trying to plan out the best weather for that week. I dont want to have to do any of that work again.
