They actually work quite well. One side has some soft fingers to keep the eggs from jostling so much - I can only recall one cracking ever, and that's over some pretty rough roads.

I went to an estate sale yesterday but all I found was the stethescope for $10. On the way home I spotted a sign for a garage sale way back in the woods. What the hell, I have nothing else going on so I checked it out. I'm glad I did. He was just trying to get rid of stuff. Snap-on S716 scaffold ratchet, ratcheting crimper, both frozen. Sands level, four foot level (not shown), ten amp battery charger, 12 volt tire pump from a Kia, hand crimper, five unopened cans of rustoleum spray paint, three channel current recorder including the three non contact amprobes, a gallon of solvent, and a Plumb hammer. Total damage $17. The ratchet and ratcheting crimper were frozen because they had never been used and just needed lube. The ratcheting crimper is marked West Germany.

Love the Oilzum clock and the flamboyant pontoon fenders on that red pedal car.

Nice to "see" you, Rags! (Newcomers should not be fooled by the modest tone - one of our best and most prolific pickers ever!)
That means a lot comnig from you Lugz! I shall make more of an appearance like older days! I have been picking still every weekend and have some stuff to post. It'll be a little later when I upload the newest hauls. Digging around in my Tool Bedroom for those Packard pliers, I realized I have 4 big cherry picked boxes full of the good stuff I've found the last year or so. I will post one thing real quick along with those pliers to kick it off!

Here are my Packards. They are Parrot type, and still dirty as found.

Here are a few finds from the last week or so, the first three pics are all flea market stuff and it's been long enough that I don't quite recall how much I paid for everything, I'll try to hazard a guess or two though.

First is the SK Wayne box which has 8-9 little 1/4" sockets in it even though I covered them up in the pic with the Starrett 94. 4 bucks for the SK box and 2 bucks for the square. Then there's an Indestro 1/2" rat, Western Auto DBE, Plomb 3040 DOE, 5272 wobbler, and 1" pebble combo. The little DBE on the right is a Duro Chrome circle X 2061, the smallest circle X I've found so far! Probably another $15 or so for the rest of this.

IMG_4256.jpg

This pic and the next was $10-11 or so I think. In this pic there are a couple V DBEs, metric ratcheting DBEs, and a long C breaker. Then a Husky USA CB-45 rat, a couple pieces of VlChek, Challenger, and the P&C DOE at the bottom.
IMG_4257.jpg

Powr-kraft offset DBE, a couple combos, Lectrolite combo, Hinsdale DBE, an interesting little Winchester DOE, and the breaker is Snap on.
IMG_4258.jpg

The next two pics came from an estate sale and I overpaid for it. Not my best picking moment but there were a few things in here I don't see very often and it got the best of me. The guy running the garage quoted me $80, and I managed to talk him down to $65 but he wasn't going any lower. There's some uncommon stuff in here so I don't feel like I got ripped off but it certainly wasn't a steal! Oh well, live and learn...

About half the cost of the whole lot was in the two little 1/4" sets. Could not leave the Indestro set behind although it's very incomplete. Anyone know if the little stubby spinner is Indestro/Duro? It's not marked. The rat and extension are SK and while the majority of the sockets are Indestro there are some Crafstman stuff mixed in. The box below that I bought pretty much just for the Plomb 1/4" rat as I almost never find these. The other rat is a Husky CM43, a good portion of the sockets are Taiwan although there are a few New Britain, Thorsen, and at least one Snap on. The small wrenches top right are Craftsman, the socket is a long C. The spinner and hinge are None Better, the screwdrivers are Plomb and Snap on, and the combos are Snap on and SK.
IMG_4266.jpg

The rest of the batch includes the metric Challenger combo set, a Blue Point Boxocket DBE, two Proto LA pebble combos, an Indestro DBE, SK Lectrolite combo, Long C Vanadium DBE, and New Britain combo. The big 1/2" ratchet and sliding T are both Owatonna which I don't see much of, so I elected to pay a premium for them.
IMG_4267.jpg

Here's three bucks worth of really rusty stuff from a hoarder sale...there are at least a few Long C and Snap on sockets, plus a Williams. Some of the smaller 1/4" stuff is New Britain. The ones with the thick band of knurling are a mystery, no markings that I can find yet. The weird little L is Walden Worcester, the wrenches should all be pretty obvious, and I'm assuming the hex rat and sockets are either Indestro or SK, we'll see if the rat is marked.

IMG_4265.jpg

Finally, here's the USA stuff out of a $20 Kennedy C-51 from a garage sale. There's was also a lot of Taiwan dreck in it, that's all in the goodwill pile already.

EDIT: Can't get the damn pic to load, will try to come back and add it later. This whole "Oops we're having problems" error is really annoying!

Finally got it to load. This is after I pulled all the non USA stuff out, the sockets are mostly Indestro and Craftsman. I think this is the first 1/2" RHFT I've found, there are also a few Proto and Craftsman combo wrenches. Probably my favorite thing in this box is another OTC piece, I need to do a little research on this F-2224 to date it.

Thought I'd create a new post for this one, I picked up a machinist's chest on Offerup the other day. I'd actually seen it a few days earlier and saw a number of Snap on pieces including some hard handle ratchets but it was priced really high so I didn't pursue it. A couple days later the seller dropped the price down to $70 so I messaged him.

One of the things I've learned with Offerup in particular is to qualify my offer with a statement saying that my offered price is only valid if everything in the pics is included. For whatever reason the Offerup guys tend to sell bits and pieces out of boxes and not update the photos.

When I met this seller I took the time to look through the box pretty carefully as I didn't want to be the victim of a bait and switch. Sure enough, the hard handle ratchets and several other ratchets were nowhere to be seen. I pointed it out to the guy and he was like "oh yeah, some other guys have gone through this already"...figures! At that point there's no way I was giving him full price for it so I told him that my offer was for everything in the pics, and since he pulled a bunch of stuff out already I'd only do $40. He hemmed and hawed for a minute but eventually accepted.

Without further ado here's the box and most of the contents. I initially just assumed it was a Kennedy until I got it home and pulled the cover out. That was a pleasant surprise as I have a soft spot for Duplex boxes.

IMG_4264.jpg

Here's what it looked like as I was going through it...

IMG_4259.jpg

And the interesting contents, this is most of what's in the box although there was a bunch of misc Proto, Indestro, and Craftsman sockets and extensions.

Socket tray is Matco, bar is New Britain, Champion plug gauge, Snap on ruler, Starrett dividers and 420 calipers, micrometer is Proto, then a couple Starrett feeler gauges and a Helios wiggler set.
IMG_4260.jpg

Everything in this pic is Snap on. Unfortunately the ratchet is a Canadian version and a lot of the combo wrenches have owner's marks but I'm not complaining!
IMG_4261.jpg

SK Wayne combos except the normal SK 7/8. Pretty sure I have a proper replacement and some of the smaller sizes.
IMG_4262.jpg

=v= 1/2 drive sockets, some Husky USA metric combos and flare wrenches, and a Craftsman USA crows foot metric set.

Well, we only had two players, or four, if you really stretch the normal rules of a pool. And we didn't do too well!

BB was over...

I was way over...

Southern83 was over and unspecified.

ecotec's reply, which was to BB, whose pick was 6, maybe came the closest if one was being very lenient, since "Not even" qualifies as less than 6.
I don't know...if you round up to the nearest whole day...then he equaled my previous period of garage sale abstinence. It seems to be the limit for how long we pickers can stay away...

Some follow-ups for those who don't like to venture too far from the GS Thread motherland...

That antique screw-holder turned out to be a S.J. Cox patent from 1925 (Pic 1). The odd antique pliers with the "spades" or "cloverleaf" pattern in the jaws are Wirminghaus & Funcke cobblers pliers (Pic 2). And I guess my marketing intuition was on the fritz on the somewhat gimmicky "ScrewTriver", where the "Tri" is for three, as in three edges on the rather manta-looking blade so you can use it offset (Pic 3 & 4).

Nice finds there guys.

Rags- good to see you posting. Interesting knife the way it operates.

Lugz- nice find on the Plomb and oddball German pliers.

Saukit- nice group of finds there. It’s hard to tell from here but I wonder if those knurl band sockets are early Snap-On midget (9/32).

I have been pondering an perusing the web looking to upgrade my storage in the garage. Two wooden tool boxes I made 25-30 years ago are falling apart(free MDF ) does not make a long term cabinet, even when you make nice oak drawer fronts. I happened across this today and with some added labor to empty my car, load my car, unload my car I got this home. It will need some cleaning, a few pairs of new slides but I'm into it for less that a Harbor Freight 26" lower.

That's a nice find! How wide is the unit? (I'm stiil on the hunt for an all-drawers roller 36" wide, as the base for a Montezuma top...)

I think that knife was auto-open at one time. Maybe the spring broke or was removed. I have a knife that works the same way because I removed the spring so I can carry it legally here in MA.

Yea I remember them from Boy Scout days. We found out quickly that the styrofoam type carton would get water logged and then bend when picked up. This usually resulted in several dropped eggs that bust in the ice chest. Once we got the plastic holders we didn’t experience anymore broken eggs in ice chest, can’t say the same about outside the ice chest.

Today I went to the flea market and while digging in a tool box I found this 3/8” drive William superwrench ratchet. It will go in the toolbox with my 1/2” drive superwrench. While digging some more I found these screw ez-out so I asked the guy how much for both and the total was $4.

The screw ez-out will go in my drill bag.

I wondered if it was an early auto! Its a pain to pull the blade out but I still really like to carry and use it. I keep watch on the bay Id love to find ne that works properly if it is indeed an auto!

From the LEFT-BEHIND folder

For @jeffmoss26 - Somebody had a vintage safe and three vintage strong boxes. All closed and locked, no combination, no keys, and they wanted B$G B$NK for them. If I was the kind of guy who had that kind of disposable income and collected old safes and strong boxes I guess I would take a shot on there maybe being some cash or diamonds inside.

For @mikeinri - a more modern and pedestrian basin wrench than my antique TRIMO. :)

40" wide, 48 " high, 19-3/4" deep. I'm going to call Snap On today about slides and detents. The drawers will open when rolling moving the slightest bit. One drawer the slides are kaput, totally.

EDIT: Called Snap On on the way home from work, 9 pairs of slides are ordered.drop shipped from Crystal Lake. I should have them before the long weekend. They have+/- 500 pairs in stock.

Stopped by a local flea market that I don't frequent hoping for some finds. Managed to grab this interesting pair of J.P. Danielson pliers for $3.00 and a box full of misc tools for $20 because I spied a Proto pipe wrench, Duro-Chrome ratchet and Vlcheck DBE. There wasn't much else in there worth keeping.

Pig in a poke x 4.
Essentially. The closed grab bags at public auctions come to mind, too, where you don't really know what's inside, you're taking a flyer based on the context of the estate. Still. It does make you wonder. Nine out of ten times the safe or strongbox is probably empty or worthless. But did someone keel over with the goods inside with no executor and no authority to drill it open? It's a good thing I'm not rich, because I'd probably be less rich right quick. :)

Love getting unusual vintage pliers because you can get all sorts of shapes that would come in handy. I once left a handful of Barcalo pliers in a dollar bin, including a pair of the parrot-beak ones (as pictured). Could kick myself for that!

Pulled this out of the dumpster at work. I know it's not from a garage sale, but I think it still fits in this thread.

It's been a while since I have found anything good in the work dumpster. Saw this sitting on top of the trash, took it inside, plugged it in, and it works great. I think it was thrown out because if a missing guard.

Anyway, it hums like new.

Here's what it looked like as I was going through it...

Everything in this pic is Snap on. Unfortunately the ratchet is a Canadian version and a lot of the combo wrenches have owner's marks but I'm not complaining!

SK Wayne combos except the normal SK 7/8. Pretty sure I have a proper replacement and some of the smaller sizes.

=v= 1/2 drive sockets, some Husky USA metric combos and flare wrenches, and a Craftsman USA crows foot metric set.

This is a fast-moving thread. Your post is less than 24 hours old but it is so far up-thread I felt I missed it--especially since I have responded to subsequent posts. That said, you got a hefty haul for $40 and You ****!

Pulled this out of the dumpster at work. I know it's not from a garage sale, but I think it still fits in this thread.

Free is Free and a free Dayton Esmeriladora de Banco de 15 CM is a You **** in any language!

Awesome! do you have the model No. for the roller?

I just realized that the reason I was sooo far behind this time was that I was out of town at a trade show last week and never logged onto GJ. Catching up was awesome. There were some great finds!

I got out quickly on Sunday and picked up a few things. Mostly decorative. Saw this old Erector set box and when I asked how much I was told - "sorry, it's pretty much just the box" - when I was still interested he asked $2

Then I saw some interesting old "coil thingies" with a really cool look. I figured he would be wanting some money but he asked $5 for both and gave me his opinion that they were some junk from a kid's science fair.

Finally $1 each on the paper items. Tire repair book from 1942 is cool, and I "suspect" the 1922 shoe store ad may be a mock up for a newspaper ad. The initials are either HP or IP - although it could just be an amateur artist sketching something out of the paper.

That stuff screams 1920s home made crystal radio. Way fun! It is probably detecting a gust front headed towards MD.

Found on FB Marketplace. Despite already having three 1/3 HP and one 1/2 HP block grinders waiting to be restored. I couldn't resist another 1/2 horse because of the stand.

The stand is a very old and heavy cast iron pedestal stand for something. The 397.19340 grinder is attached nicely with bolts and rubber spacers. Whatever was originally on the pedestal was considerably bigger than the Craftsman grinder. The grinder doesn't have a light and evidently never had one since there is no hole or even a punch out spot in the case, didn't know the light was an option on these.

Can anyone identify the pedestal?

Also from same seller picked up a small air tank in good condition and 4 nib Indian made "Wisdom USA" brand pullers. The Wisdom brand has hasn't yielded to Google search, they look really cheap like those tools that a vendor will setup on tables at a car show. They were a "throw in" plus a bucket!

$70 for everything.
