I love this thread. You are my kind of man doing it all your self and your attention to detail. I will be coping some of your ideas. Can't wait for more updates! Is radiant heat only in the paint both?

the radiant heat is just in the 12x56 addition the sheet mtl. fab area dust creating eqip and the paint booth. when I built the 26x 30 addition the tubing at that time was $2300 just for the tube alone and was pretty new so I 1 could not aford it 2 did not trust it. my bad wish I would have but the rest of the shop can be heated with the house furness insted.I will be posting more updates soon so keep checking back.

Re: hot rod garage in the works.38x56

got a little more done in the paint booth hope to have it finished soon.theres just not enough hrs in the day.man does work get in the way of my garage finishing and fun.lol.
001.jpg

had some .063 aluminum cross broke for the door skins hopefully this will make it easy to clean.the doors from hell are almost done building doors from scratch out of recycled lumber just took forever. I never had intended on finishing the car port ever.so I did not take the time to do alot of finish work and I payed dearly for my corner cutting and lack of forsite.
003.jpg

005.jpg

hope to finish the rest soon.just rounding up more sheet mtl. fittings to finish the rest of the system.

Man I love the shop. As has been stated above your attention to detail is awesome.
On a personal note, the children of the world need more Fathers like you. I hope that I will be able to spend more time with my kids after this deployment. My daughters have been involved in a couple of my projects, and those are the ones that stick out in my mind. Passing on information and knowledge is the only way that this world can get better. Keep up the good work.

There is something wrong with all these pictures.....where are all the beer cans? The window sills should be completely full, a couple half crushed scattered on the ground, a few on the step ladder, some more on the benches, etc. Most jobs go a bit faster with some barely water, and if you do screw something up, you don't care as much. Other than that, it looks great, wish I had the time and money to pull something like that off. Good luck with the rest of it and .

EDIT: I see one can in a coozie a few pages back, not sure of its origin though.

Get that lawn mower out of your paint booth now. If it finds a home in there you will start storing more stuff along side it and you will never have it available for it's intended purpose.

Re: hot rod garage in the works.38x56

just a little progress to report last week was the worst week ever lost a very dear friend to a scum of the earth kind of guy.burried my good friend and a great police officer.joe bergeron we will miss you dearly. finished painting the inside of the paint booth and did I mention I hate sanding mud on a ceiling.still have alot to do to finish but pretty functional.
031.jpg

035-1.jpg

after the fire dept showed up to put out the garage fire or just alot of sheet rock mud dust.we got things cleaned and prepped for paint.
037-1.jpg

hope to get to the ducting soon but need to finish the chopper bike first.

Hey your shop looks great. Sorry to hear of your friend. Being a police officer since I was 21, now 48, it never gets easy, as I have been to many a cop fiuneral. I also have a HOTROD hsop, all MOPARS, gas pumps, coke machines, ect.

I have a question, are those pavers in your paint booth and do they exytend inside? Do you keep the floor covered and what exhaust system are you using for the booth, an explosion proof system ect? I have a garage inside of my shop with its own garage door. Painting is still legal here in Nevada for now.

Great kjob, looking forward to mor epics and I will have to document my shop and post it all some day. I am currently re-doing my font shop area as it snot a work area longer and will be a place to keep cars, sit, smoke stogies and dream.

the only problem is the mower is so big its the only place that it fits.its not ideal but this is just my hobby shop and I don't paint all that much so I just have to live with the inconvience.I do store the mower somewhere else for thewinter though.I think i need a bigger garage. lol.

the pavers end at the entry doors then concrete with the heated floors. the doors seal up awsome just took me forever to make them.the fan that I used is mounted outside you can see it in earlier post picts. the motor is completely seperate from ex. it moves alot of air.works good so far and its not done yet.depending on what I am painting I just lay plastic down for ease of clean up and the plastic works as a dust magnet too.just fold it up and toss it when your done.

told myself that I would not start any more projects until I finished some of the projects that I have in the works.that did not work the hail damage on the house has to be done now.so myself and my boys and a handfull of friends.this is the kind of job that you really find out who your friends are. full roof tear off.house 16 sq. garage 20 sq. plus all the steel roofing on the car port.after getting some outragious bids for siding and roof. I decided to do all of it myself. I will post up picts of the new project soon.

ok so I have some issues with staying focused. not done with the paint area. and now on the roof and siding project.just can't leave well enough alone and need to make change at the same time.changing the roof line to look like a old barn type of roof with a loft door and access to store seasonal items and car parts.let me know what you think of the project.

I hate insurence companies!!!!!

man I hate insurence companies been super busy at work for my normal job and forced to take time off of work unpaid to finish my roof ,siding and gutters.trying to replace windows, doors and insulate the walls better while it's apart.but the insurence co.says I need to be done by tomarow no exceptions or they keep 25% of the money.so I have been working my *** off to get everything done to apease them.most of the big stuff is done but the puttsy stuff takes more time.weather is changing fast and need to get everything buttoned up before winter gets here!
067.jpg
in the prosess of building a loft door for the garage was thinking that with all the cedar going on it needed somthing to accent it and remembered my best bud and neighbor gave me a sheet of old copper for making circut boards. took it down from the attic and cleaned it up with a scotch brite pad and a grinder bought some hammered hindges and brushed some copper paint on them took the cedar frame that we made and divited it up with a grinder and some 36 grit and clear sealed it.bought some rivets (brass) and fabricated a buck and rivited the copper to the plywood doors.
074.jpg
108.jpg
ended up looking somthing like this after clear coating. I love it wish my buddy Hank was still alive to see what I used the copper for.

thanks for the input . it is alot faster to do it yourself rather then have yor kids help but hopefully in the long run I can pass some skills that I have picked up along the way and hand them down to my kids.went to pick up a used miter saw last week and ended up buying a motorized bicycle so we can build another chopper bike. life is good!

021.jpg
kind of funny took the nice lumber and chunked it up and burnt it to make it look old and weathered.
022.jpg
took the nice alum. plate and beat the hell out of it with hammers and hatchets.
025.jpg
after painting them black dry brushed copper and then cleared them with a flattening agent.

theese are after staining them.hope this works!

Re: hot rod garage in the works.38x56

some more progress cut the big beams and made a splice joint and dowled it with some 3/4 aluminum rod. I think this ought to be strong enough.takes alot longer to cut this stuff went a little old fassion and used a bow saw to cut them with a little alum stock for guides.we are so spoiled in todays world power tools rule. guess I should not have ripped my bandsaw apart until i was ready!

hope to get the joint screwed and glued tonight.maybe som more rustic sanding.

Great score. I love craigslist and check it daily for numerous things. I have scored so much stuff around here (nothern Nevada) where foreclosures are the highest in the nation and people are liquidating.

last year I scored a brands new Husky compressor for $100.00 and I mean new. It wentin my compressor room with the two other uprights. Like you I do body an dpaint so three compressors means air is always there.

Im keeping an eye on the post, looking forward to seeing what progressing.

The beams look great - very creative. BTW, I really like the use of the lift as part of your scaffolding. I did the same thing while putting up a ceiling (12' up) in my shop.
