Reminds me of the Kraeuter three position slip-joints that existed before Snap-on but get no love...
I'd never seen those before I google what you mentioned. Snap On were the only ones I had seen that had that 3 position until just now.......... hmmmmm. Thanks for the history lesson.

I'd never bought anything Snap On and I looked at the website and saw the shipping cost as well. I wanted these pliers, but paying so much to ship just that one pliers did seem to put me off.

I found online and emailed a local to me Snap On Dealer about purchasing the pliers. He shipped me the pliers for $3.95 and I paid the list price plus tax to him with paypal.

maybe you can do the same.

I don't know where you are, but if he shipped it to me for a reasonable price he'd likely be able to do the same for you. Hell of lot easier than trying to meet up with a truck somewhere, that's for sure.

If you are interested, you can PM me and I'll forward his contact information/ snap on web page. I'd place it here, but I wouldn't want to jam anyone up if him shipping tools is against some policy.

Thanks, I may take you up on this.

I can understand SO not offering free shipping on a $10 order- of course they sell very few items for $10, but.... But, if they are selling direct to a consumer, then they are cutting out the dealer's margin. I'm sure it varies, but it's probably 50% of the list price in many cases. So if I buy a $50 pair of pliers from them and they ship them for "free" at a cost of even $15, they are still making $10 more $ than they would if I bought them from a dealer- based on my assumptions. And SO corporate does not want an individual to be able to easily contact a dealer. I looked on SO's website months ago to try and find a dealer in my area. Nope. They want you to send SO corporate a message and they'll call you back. Umm, sure. I can understand if some dealers don't want my $, and my emails offering to give it to them in cash. But SO apparently doesn't even give their dealers the option to opt into a service, on the SO website, where they can be contacted by a local individual that doesn't work at a business serviced by SO. So, SO corporate doesn't want you to contact a dealer, they want you to buy directly from them, at FULL cost, and pay them shipping. Sounds like they really are backing their dealer's businesses :D Yes, I know I can google SO dealers in my area, but my point is about SO's policies.

Anyway, this has gone way OT, sorry, but...

Yes, similar but not three position:

Yes, that's it! Thanks!
Funny how there was never an insane amount of interest here in the SK or Craftsman version when they were available. But as soon as SO makes one, it's the greatest pliers ever LOL
And I knew that someone would know the SK version and then point out all the differences in comparison to SO. :ROFLMAO:
I said "similar"

Don't worry, HF is totally on this and I'm sure will have a version of this in a few months; they already have a copy of one of SO's three position pliers. I'm sure they are working on copying most of the "unique" SO pliers.

I saw the 3 position HF slip joints today online. They look good, but I don't have a need for them as I have plenty of slip joint pliers. No "gotta have 'em" vibe either.

I used the long nose SO slip joints a couple of days ago to yank a connection out. It did really well, the teeth are more aggressive at the tip than other long nose pliers I have. If HF knocks off those, I'm sure they'll sell, but not to me since I have the SO already.

ProAmerica also makes an 11" version:

The Craftsman Professional version goes for insane money if you can find them on Ebay. They were originally part of a three piece set that also contained a set of arc joint pliers with extended jaws and a long reach pair. It was a Christmas Catalog item one year a long time ago. I still have the SK version made by Western Forge I picked up on a distant Epstein's day on year. I like the SK grips over the Craftsman Professional version. However, their teeth just don't compare to the teeth on the LN47s. Back in the day, before Chinese long reach pliers became the norm, Kal tools made those long handle slip joint pliers for several tool trucks. Great pliers!!! I still have a few sets. I like the ones with 45 degree jaws. definitely a blast from the past

Hopefully the popularity of these will make knipex make a long nose version of their twin grips :p To be honest I didn't even know these new pliers existed until I saw this thread. The hassle of buying snapon stuff as a homegamer is enough to keep me from trying to get a set of these. I think they are super cool, just not super cool enough to hunt some down or pay the rediculous shipping of their webpage.

Thanks to my friend and neighbor Fedwrench I've acquired as set of these. As everybody knows I'm not a Snap-On fanboy, although I am a Snap-On shareholder, and without hesitation will admit these are really neat pliers. Proof once again that the simplest idea can always be improved if somebody is willing to think outside the box.

I don't think they are in stock on the website... My dealer don't have any and won't be anytime soon.

Can confirm -- these are the greatest pliers known to man.

Can't wait for the LN46ACF.... the small form factor will be amazing.

I hope they make an even smaller set too -- would be an absolute beast of a EDC. A 5" or even 3.5-4" version would be SO rad.

I have two sets. Absolutely love these things. Didn’t know there was a baby version coming. Will have to grab some of those too.

My dealer got the LN46ACFs in and immediately sold four of them in the shop. I wasn't one of them unfortunately as I am willing to wait for the green handled version.

I predict the new shorter, LN46ACF will become more popular due to their overall size.
Maybe, maybe not FED. The long reach is what I find to be the most alluring quality of these. Their ability to do hose clamps being an example. I haven't yet seen a case where I said: "I wish these were smaller." yet. Perhaps for removing electrical connectors would be a case where smaller would be more handy. When I think of these it occurs to me that the advantage of the triple slip joint is keeping the jaws parallel. I'll have to Email Knipex and suggest long nose pliers wrenches. Those could be killer.

I wonder what the connection is between Snap-On guys and lime green. I detect a fetish here.
OCD is more the issue, like things to match. My box is actually blue(though if I had my choice I would go with purple). Most of my tools are green except a bunch of pliers, a couple ratches and prybar I have in red/orange/yellow

I just got a pair and am not impressed. the tips are not ground even and are misaligned. If you use the middle position it's really noticeable. There's also a a fair amount of wiggle in the joint. These are not what I would call precision pliers. First picture is of them in the first position, second picture is in the second position.

Thats normal in the middle position.
These are intended more for heavy duty than precision.

I should clarify that the first pic is in the first position where they should be aligned the best. The grind on the tip slant isn't even, which is hard to get a picture of. I agree these are for heavy duty, just wanted to mention it in case someone was expecting a do everything plier
