Is this a 1970s Matco roller?

The handles are incorrect but it looks exactly like a couple of 1970s vintage Matco chests I've seen. Super heavy. Picked up for $150 locally. I needed some extra storage and this seemed like a cost effective solution. I can't find any markings anywhere.

Which calipers - Vernier, Digital, Dial?

I picked up two calipers at a local garage sale. A Starrett (6") with a decimal inches dial and a Brown and Sharpe with a metric dial. There was also a Laco square tossed in. $50 for the lot. They all seem to work. No boxes or anything but these were purchased to be used. I'll try and find...

Distributor machines - what to look for when buying

From the two I got (Sun 504 and 506). Make sure the gauges work. They're specific to Sun and pricey to replace. Make sure the flash unit works. They cost upwards of $200 to replace. The vacuum is often weak. Easy fix. Comb the Craigslist ads, I found them local. Seems old shops are just...

Sun Distributor Machines 504 and 506

Someone was clearing out a garage and so I picked up two. They both seem to work. I'm not sure if the meters are calibrated, but it seems to function correctly. Is there any reason to select one over the other? Seems the 506 has a higher RPM limit (6,000 on the machine or 12,000 on the...

Opinions on 9000 pound capacity Manitowoc auto lifts

There's someone locally that's got them for $1,400 installed. They get packages (like 20 of them from dealers and sell them off) From searching it appears there are some issues like noise and such with these lifts. I would use it on smaller cars (Datsun 240Z, Subaru WRX) I think the clearance...

    30x40 foot garage heating advice

I have a rather large garage (1200 sq ft) and a small budget. I picked up a nice Modine forced air heater (50,000 btu) ($200). It came with plenty of double-walled pipe. Unfortunately my garage has no gas. Running a line from the house involves trenching through a driveway and running nearly...

    Recommended Compressor Oil

Do you need to use actual 'compressor oil' or will regular non-detergent 20 or 30 weight oil work in my compressor (older late 1960's vintage Ingersoll-Rand two stage pump)? I have a bunch of Mobil 1 sitting around and also some GTX synthetic oil. Any thoughts on how they'd work? I've read...

Help: Where to find parts / manuals for older Ingersoll-Rand Compressor

I called Compressed Air and a few other distributors. No one seems to have any information on the Ingersoll-Rand Type 30 232 C compressor. There's a 234 model, but not a 232. Is there any resource on the web where someone has scanned an operating manual for a Type 30 compressor? Likewise...

Picked Up an Ingersoll Rand Compressor 232

I found one for $75 on CR. It was an Ingersoll Rand Compressor Model 232-C. Seems to be an older two stage (two cylinder) unit. Came out of an old gas station in Boulder, Colorado. I think it's 80 gallon, but it could be 60. The tag states it's a 'Type 30'. I can't find anything on this...

    Please Help ID this Compressor

The owner claims it's a 5HP, 2 stage compressor. The tank is made by Manchester and is 60 gallons. Based on the paint color ... I was thinking perhaps it's a Kellog-American, but it's hard to tell. The motor is supposed to be original and it's a 5 HP Magnatec.

    POR 15 floor epoxy

Expensive ... I saw that ... $500+ for a 1.5 car garage with the clear topcoat. And it appears no one has used them.

Gas line, Propane, or 240V to power heater for Garage?

I think I'm going to have to run a 1/2" TracPipe PS-II pipe from the gas meter to the garage. I like the idea of digging the trench myself or using inexpensive labor for that task. The 250' of pipe needed is close to $750. Electric and water were already at the garage from the previous owner...

    Shotblasting Rental Cost

$650 + $32.95 for 50 lbs shot. This is for a one day rental. That sounds expensive! I'm doing 2,000 sq feet. As I stated in another post I'm considering Epoxy-Coat. I could acid etch for less. Any thoughts? One garage is 14 years old ... the other is fairly new. Cost for the Epoxy-Coat...
