can compressor unloader valve be too small?

thats too be expected, its just draining the air out of the cooler. You could replumb it so the check valve and unloader are before the cooler that way the unloader doesnt haveto drain the cooler every time.

    Champion Air Compressor Questions

I was in a similar situation but with a 5hp 3phase compressor. I ended up opting for a VFD phase converter rather than swapping the motor. VFD cost $115 and allows me to speed up or slow down the compressor depending on what im doing. I run it slower usually to keep it quiet and cool. Side...

    Show us your VFD conversions/installations

IMO the 6amp is what seems low. Readings taken running a 5hp baldor motor spinning a 2 stage compressor @850rpm and 150psi. I’d think 15-20amp sounds more accurate

Anyone have any info on amperage in vs out on a VFD? my Chinese VFD i posted above has an amp load read out, it shows 6.1amp. my clamp meter shows 19amps going into the VFD. Is it a false reading or is the 6.1 amp on each leg x3?

    Devilbiss 432 Teardown

I doubt the oil change will be enough to make it reliably start in the cold. I had a 5hp 3phase on a static phase converter, didnt like starting in the cold on a 30amp breaker. I usually had to "bump" the compressor 4-5 times (2ish seconds each) then it would usually start without popping the...

    North Star air compressors?

little offtopic...but if you dont need as much air as that thing makes id slow it down. spinning it a little slower will likely make it much quieter, cooler and last longer. Thats the fun of having a VFD on mine, usually keep it around 650-700RPM but if i really need a lot of air ill crank it...

Looking for a new torque wrench

I have the Quinn 3/8 and 1/2 digital torque wrenches along with the 1/2" click type Icon (all from HF). They get used in a shop environment (race vehicles), the quinn is decent and gets the job done but isnt near the quality of the Icon. if its a once a month or less type of tool i wouldnt...

    Ingersol Rand TS4N5 Compressor

Do you have a clamp meter? once you get it up and running you can check the amp load at full PSI to get an idea of how hard the motor is being worked. As long as its below the name plate amp draw you are good to go, if its above you may need to change pulley ratios to get the load down on the motor.

    Ingersol Rand TS4N5 Compressor

Just looked up the specs on that compressor, 7.5hp is very overkill for a compressor of that size. Most of these consumer grade compressors are using common parts among all brands. Id guess the motor burned up from being bad quality, not from being truly over worked.

Just ran across this thread...here is a video of a Chinese VFD running my 5hp compressor. This video was recorded very early on and was still in the testing phase, it has been cleaned up since then. It used a home built static phase converter before, it was used that way for years but struggled...

How to diagnose condition of vintage compressor

He's running a 60 gal tank, not 80. Do you happen to know where the 2YC falls in this size/CFM comparison?

    Pressure washer maximum PSI?

Thanks for the reply! Turns out it's a giant pump, which may or may not be a rebranded cat. Did some concrete cleaning with it set at 1200psi but it was struggling to take the deep black and greeen algae off. Bumped the pressure up to 1700 and it came right off. This old pump/machine seems to do...

    Pressure washer maximum PSI?

After more research it appears I was way over pressure. This is a piston pump, not a plunger pump. Can't find any specs on this exact unit but by design/comparison it looks like it is a high-ish flow, low pressure pump. Something around 4gpm but sub 2000psi. Got the pump back together tonight...
