VISE REPAIR 101 all vise repairs, lubricants, sources for parts and the tricks to fix

It is BAD...really bad. But underneath all the bronze weld is a great Parker vise. Yes it needs more work than it is really worth, but I wanted a project and KMScott delivered. I am going to have to remove all the bronze material to see the actual cast iron crack. Clean and clean and clean. Then...

VISE REPAIR 101 all vise repairs, lubricants, sources for parts and the tricks to fix

Drivesitfar, I used a pair of heavy welding gloves and a kevlar blanket. The gloves made it awkward to weld with but my hands were protected, these were designed to protect you while stick weld and do not have the dexterity needed for TIG. The blanket was a twofold benefit, kept the heat form me...

    Help identifying this Parker Vise

I am getting the vise for free. Lots of opportunity to learn. I hope to find a new spindle in the near future. I will redo some of the previous repair work and get the thing solid again.

VISE REPAIR 101 all vise repairs, lubricants, sources for parts and the tricks to fix

Here are the before and after photos of my Wilton 8145 Cadet. The base of the main body was cracked pretty significantly. I did not want to weld inside due to the tolerances and I really did not want to have to machine anything. I ground the cracks and drilled out the ends, so the crack would...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

This 1965 8145 Wilton Cadet vise was the kind of project you devote yourself. In most cases it would have been more valuable as parts or scrap, but underneath the rust and looking beyond the cracked cast iron, there was a hard working tool wanting to work. I have never TIG welded cast iron...

    3M Abrasive disc holder 9145

I ended up emailing 3M. They called back and have a replacement 9145 Disc Backer on the way. Looks like the backers hook attachment was not robust enough to handle the spinning, a newer version resolved the flying off issue. Thanks for the input. When tools don't work, it *****.

    3M Abrasive disc holder 9145

I have had a 9145 adapter for my Milwaukee 6146-30 4½" grinder. The grinder is rated at 11,000 rpm and the 9145 holder and the Scotch-Brite discs are rated at 13,000 rpm. Every time I use the tool, the discs come flying off. Sometimes they hit me, others they fly offing the shop. I have found...

    Custom Welding jacket

I am a designer/fabricator. Most of my work is TIG but I tend to use my welding jacket while I am fabricating as a protective piece of equipment. I also have been making things on my burly sewing machine and I am considering designing and fabricating a welding jacket. I want to incorporate great...
