    2X4 walls VS 2X6 walls

Anything above a typical 8' wall I would go with a 2x6. My last garage had a 2x4x10' walls and lets say they were a little flimsey, not that it was going to come down or anything but when I closed the door you could feel it move a little. If on a strict budget go with 2x4, if you have the...

    Frank's 40x40x12 w/14x40x7.5 Loft

Exact dimensions of my old garage, the only thing I would have done differently is made it 42-43'deep, when putting 2 cars in one bay it dosen't give you much(if any) room in the back to put tool chests or other stuff against the wall. My new garage is 42' deep which should be just enough. I...

    Proper compressor mounting

I did the tire thing also, had some extra pieces of 2x8 and made a platform about 3'x4' , cut up a old tire and nailed it to the bottom making a rubber base, then lagged the compressor to the platform. Mine isn't bolted to the floor, just free standing.

Had the same problem myself here in PA but got a decent day Sunday- hi 50* and fairly low humidity so I said screw it and tried it. I let the heater run the entire night before but it was still cool in the garage when I started 40-50*. Everything seemed to go fine ,I hope  Floor is...

cost diff between 24x24 and 30x30???

My last house I built a 40x40, everybody including my wife thought I was crazy and didn't need anything that big. Within 5 yrs it was packed with "stuff" 5 cars, tools, kids toys, ect ect. Always build as big as you can afford to. At my new house I was restricted to 1000sq ft garage:( so I...

    What's the best solution?

From a resale value I personally lost money on the garage when we sold our last house. It was a 5yr old detached 40x40 with cathedral ceilings, 2 post car lift, heated, ect. I easilly had about 40k(with me doing alot of the work) into it but it only seemed to add about 20-25k to the value of...
