    sorry perhaps a little more info would be helpful. When the motor is assembled and running, if i try to connect the ground from the outlet to the motor frame, it trips the GFCI. I know my outlet is good, and i know the wire is good. If i plug just the hot black wire to the motor, and check...

    there is when the back of the casing is attached, as you see right now, no, so I'm guessing the short is coming from the back housing somehow.

    greetings all from Maine, I have an old craftsman motor, 1/4 hp split phase induction. when I connect the electrical cord, the exterior case is " hot", and if I connect the ground, it's shorting out, so not sure if I have wired correctly. name plate and wiring diagram are awol so I'm hoping...

    ok that makes sense, thanks for the help...the other question i have is where does the motor make contact? i dont see a plate that touches like your photo shows but there is an arm thats suppose to make contact with the wire lead.

    hello all I have an old craftsman motor that I cannot get back together. took it apart to clean and the back came off with out me seeing how it went together. hoping some has some ideas, any help would be appreciated. thanks!
