    Frankenpressor build

Hey nice job on your build! Mind if I ask who you got your rebuild kit from? I just picked up a smaller Wayne portable and it sounds just like yours. I have yet to take it apart, but am praying it's not rod knock. I can't find any info on my model and I, too, resorted to ebay for just a...

    organization in a small shop.

Re: organization in a smll shop. I have the same problem. Your pics show that the walls and ceiling are pretty bare. I jammed everything I could on the walls and ceiling joists. I built 2' deep shelf hanging from the cj's and it goes around most of the perimeter of the room. Under those are...

What kind of tools have you found in the road??

I found a B tank with turbo torch. Amazingly, only the gauge on the turbo torch was messed up and nothing was leaking. Then a little ways later I came up on a bucket with a 00R ratchet head with handle and a half inch die head.

    Show off your Jack(s)

I believe that's an S-14 3 ton. I have a pic of a page from a catalog dated 1939 and you can barely make out the swept back design of the light. That's an awesome find!

Replacement casters for a 'cherry picker'?

At 30 years old I'm going to guess your hoist is mounted on top of of the casters. That said, I think you will be hard pressed to find small casters at your 1k lb requirement. The smallest I've seen are about 3" and the lowest overall height (swivel frame + wheel) at that would probably be...

I’ve made a real mess of things painting.

The best thing is what GRivera said. Learn to cut and fly like the wind..... CombatNinja also made some great points and to his #2 my guess is that you didn't clean the walls before painting. A heavy dusting of drywall compound will cause paint to pull in large sheets very easily. If I do...

    Beam vise?

Looks like a blacksmith's wagon vise. Allowed a blacksmith to set up shop when on the trail. Was usually mounted to the tongue/drawbar of a heavy wagon hence the clamp instead of a leg.

    Need some tool Id help

Looks like the previous owner made a right angle attachment or riser for the compound or tool post. If it was an auction or liquidation sale, those may not be for your machine as I see that happen often.

    Blackhawk S4 fun

The blue jack does not come with a cover plate for the pump body as there are no bosses behind the lift arm pivot to hold the plate (the red one has the bosses). This is also prevalent in an old 1936 ad I found somewhere on the internet. On most, if not all, jacks the ID tag is always on the...

MBC Dewalt RAS how to free (unlock?) for a crosscut

There's a screw knob on the right side of the carriage that locks it in the cross cut direction. Make sure it's fully unscrewed. If the carriage still doesn't move you may have some rusty bearings and/or rails.

    stahlwille rollmaster

Hate to dig up an old thread for a silly question, but does anyone know how the flip down shelf on these secures in the upright position? I can't make out the latch (or whatever) on the one in the center pic. I got one of these recently and it has the holes for the shelf to mount, but no...

Blackhawk floor jack ID & advice

The blue one is also an S4. It's the predecessor to your red one. I believe the blue one is from the '30s and the red is around the '40s+. I have the red one and have been looking for that one from the '30s. I don't want to say "rare" but I don't see them nearly as much as the red one you...

    Edd China's Garage Revival Program

Wow, thanks for posting this. Since Edd left the show I haven't really been tuning in. I kind of agree with you TjoFrasse. I still have my favorite car shows, but it's nice to take a break from all the overly customized custom customs and just get back to basics. Kind of like MotorWeek, no...

We all knew this day was coming . . .

I'm right there with ya. I grew up in the 80's and as a kid got started on the Craftsman stuff. I remember a lot of that stuff you mentioned. Yep the toy catalog...wow. And don't forget the regular Sears catalog. Way way back in the day, before most of us, the catalog used to be the size of...

Rate the difficulty of connecting detached garage to house plumbing (with pictures)

Considering time and cost, option 3 seems like a good idea. Make sure you have good venting with an ejector that has a 20' horizontal run or increase the pipe in the crawl to 4" (or whatever size your mains are). You county may still want you to have additional venting. Also, I'd try to hang...
