    remodeling the man cave...

Great progress so far. I dig the exposed rafters and reflective insulation. That storage shelf in the corner is a great idea. Are you going to take out the corner entry completely? How big is the garage?

Looking for good quality air couplers

One of my projects is to replace all my crappy air tool couplers with ones of much better quality. All I can find locally at Home Depot, Lowe's and Harbor Freight are ****. The couplings all leak when a hose is hooked up. So, I'm looking to spend some money on some better ones and get rid of...

    Stem Wall question

Assuming the wall is structurally sound, I'd look at just patching them up with mortar and then cover both sides of the stem wall with surface bonding concrete for added strength and prevention of future deterioration.

Cooling the Garage... who cares about heating it?

You're right. I was thinking the slab could do the bulk of the cooling work with a normal AC unit for supplemental cooling and dehumidification. Even if it ends up being ineffective I'll still have a ground loop for a ground source heat pump and in-slab tubing for radiant heat, both of which I...

Cooling the Garage... who cares about heating it?

Same here in NC. I'm ok with it being 80-85 inside as long as the humidity is kept in check. One idea I'm toying with for my shop (haven't broken ground yet) is a ground source heat loop to cool the insulated slab. Dig a trench for a couple hundred feet of poly tubing, combined with tubing in...

    Storage shed

At that length 2x4 joists should pose no problem. I'd go with T&G flooring secured with screws to help spread out the load on the floor without the risk of nails pulling out. For an OSB/felt roof, use the 2x3s. For the polycarbonate roof, the 2x2s should be fine. Be sure to use pressure...

    Small but funtional

I like it. Very good use of the available space. Where'd you snag that old Gulf sign?

Another reason not to buy chineese stuff

Over half of the food we eat is raised or grown locally, most of it organically. We're on a first name basis with some of the local farmers in our area and shop extensively at our local farmer's market. Farmer's markets aren't available everywhere in the US, but aside from that there's isn't...

I grabbed a copy a few days ago. Was very cool to see some of the garages I've seen here in print. Congrats, guys!

Re: 70 Yr old couple building a barn (garage/workshop) I'm absolutely floored by this build. Kudos to you, Lin and Dave.

    Garage is coming along

Looks nice. I've about settled on grooved plywood siding for my interior walls once I get my detached shop built. I don't want the hassle of mudding and taping and painting drywall.

    new from NC, my shack

I like the separate paint room. I'm going to have to come up with something similar for my wood and metal projects. What are your plans for the Corrado?

    Julian, NC here

The stairs are inside, on the wall oppose the car doors. No interior layout yet. I figure I have time. I'll post it up when I have something. I'm not really concerned with resale, and removing the second door gives me more wall space for benches, tools, and storage. This shop won't be used...
