    Leveling Feet for Metal Workbenches

I have bought a few threaded bolts with a plastic pads, but they don’t stand up. I have made a few with bolts with washers welded to the head too. I finally have settled on my hockey puck feet that I use on my mill that has at least 1500 lbs on 4 feet. I can level the mill perfectly and if I...

    Drilling Hockey Pucks

Here are my hockey puck feet for my milling machine. They work fantastic.

    Harbor freight 44 cabinet legs.

This takes a little welding making the brackets, but it will hold lots of weight. 3“ ID pipe for the hockey puck. 1/4” plate on top with ready rod welded on. There is a jam nut that locks the leveling foot in place. I use a pallet jack to move it.

got a question about gas refills CO2...

I get food grade C02 tanks refilled from a “Fire Extinguisher“ service company, which services the beer brewers In our area. Turn around is 2 to 7 days days. These tanks I own. I also have a local welding company that swaps out a food grade C02 gas for the restaurant industry (Pop and beer) I...

    Mig wire

I’ve tried a few different brands and they all work well. My only bad experience was a cheap Chinese brand that wasn’t wound well and it kept catching on itself on the spool. i guess you get what you pay for.

Has anyone built a 2 x 72 belt grinder for their shop?

I realize the picture you attached is not the grinder you plan on building. But in the picture above, if you went from a 4” tracking wheel to a 3” tracking wheel, it would make very little difference. If the tracking wheel was higher than the front two idler wheels, making the tracking wheel...

What Kind of Foam Sheet is This?

It looks like standard polyethylene foam sold by various companies (ie. Uline) used for packing. I’m sure stiffness of the foam is due to the density of the foam being produced. I’m sure Amazon is sourcing large quantities of polyethylene foam from a large supplier and is not anything special.

Help with metal cutting saw choice

I have used various saws to cut metal. Dry cut saws are by far the best for cutting quickly, repetitively and they provide good square cuts. My smaller floor band saw is good, but I prefer the dry cut saw. The down side to dry cut saw is they are noisy and metal chips go every where unless you...

What Steel To Keep On-Hand At Home

A couple of sizes of square tubing and same with angle iron. Some flat bar is also nice. if your just fabricating simple projects, check out your dump, metal recycler or your local Craig’s list/market place for bed frames. They are cheap or free and handy to have around. They weld ok, but are...

New Age Pro Cabinet ( paint issues)

I’m no expert, but have experienced something similar when having some powder coating done. The dark spots look similar to an oil contamination. If there is oil on the steel and it’s not removed before powder coating, it will show up as a dark stain with grey powder coating.

Need help suspending platforms from corrugated metal (storage unit)

Can you mig weld an anchor or a eye hook to the ceiling? You can then hang your chain off them for your platform. Another option would be to make some custom shelving that doesn’t have a support leg in the middle.

    Garage Heater Costs Canada

45000 btu sounds about right for a double garage, but it depends on the square footage and ceiling height. You can go on-line and figure out the btu size required for your garage. You state the gas line runs inside under the heater location. Does the gas line run by the heater or is there a...

Welding Small Metal Dowels to Plate

Just an idea. You could drill 1/4” holes into the plate, insert the 1/4” steel rod 75% into the hole and weld them from the back. Grind off any protruding weld if required. It would be a nice clean look from the top. You could also drill the holes, then tap all the holes and thread in a rod...

How would you refab these tailgate chains?

I agree, moving the chain up to increase the angle would help. You could use a D Shackle which are stronger and still removable. You could put the d shackle on the trailer frame or gate.
