Purchased a Barndo in Tennessee with in floor pex but no boiler or pumps installed

You can get a “pex pressure test fitting” that has a schrader valve and a gauge. You would add air to the line, confirm you have the other end of the loop then plug the pex and pressurize to 30psi. Verify the loop holds pressure for a while, idk 30 minutes? If it doesn’t hold pressure check all...

    Anodizing cast aluminum

I’ve had mic6 anodized that had what appeared to be “flakes” that didn’t take the dye. It was pretty noticeable when anodized black. You should use alca-5 tooling plate if you want to anodize it, it’s a 5000 series aluminum so slightly less yield strength but it looks better and I found it to...

Dodged a bullet on this one, I think...

I use a 3/8 impact and tap sockets with great success. Smaller taps just chuck them up in a drill, they will usually spin in the chuck before they break if it’s a quality tap.

Concept for simple "what's in that box" inventory tracker

My work uses a similar google doc form to keep track of spare part inventory. They have a cheap android tablet where you enter part information/shelf location then add or subtract it from inventory.

Poll: 2 methods for new garage build; which is best?

I came up with 30” frost depth for Chicago but regardless I think you need a foundation wall or a monolithic slab to avoid damage from frost heave. If they are doing a concrete retaining wall I wouldn’t think it would be much more work to do a footer and foundation wall instead. I don’t think I...

How to determine servo motor torque sizing

If you are applying force horizontally to the bottom leg, the required force when the scissor is closed can be very high. Ignoring the weight of the scissor mechanism, with 200lbs on the platform and the legs at 10 degrees from horizontal you would need 1130lbs of force to lift the load. Most...

Bridgeport EZ trak DX, what did I just do?

I ran an EzTrak for about 3 years making parts for automated machinery. Feel free to hit me up if you have any programming or operation questions, I might even be able to get a scan of the operators manual. The control is old but it is extremely user friendly and has some really useful geometry...
