“Abandon hope, all ye who enter here” My “new” to me, Craftsman model 100 drill press

I don’t really have any information to contribute, other than great looking job you’re doing. And the FrankLee is absolutely top notch. He’s been helping me do some retrofitting to my 70’s Craftsman and he has encyclopedic knowledge! Very helpful!

1978 Craftsman Dill Press Pulley Conversion

Not a bad idea there if a come across one. I had a VFD on my Wells-Index Mill and I absolutely loved it. No gear changes and no belt changes. Just had to run a piece of 12/2 romex inside a conduit. That’s the way to go for the smaller sized motors.

1978 Craftsman Dill Press Pulley Conversion

I did get the conversion done. I am thinking I might remove the top fastest location from both pulleys. The belt guard may fit then. The motor pulley definitely needs to be down a bit more. Going to have to pull it off to do that. But the Amazon pulleys both fit and work with minimal work...

1978 Craftsman Dill Press Pulley Conversion

I agree I have a combo lathe mill so if I’m in the middle of a lathe operation I don’t want to break down my setup for that. Maybe one day I’ll have a dedicated machine for each.

1978 Craftsman Dill Press Pulley Conversion

Oh yes I have because having all those speed causes the belt size to be shrunk. This causes the lack of belt wrap which spins. Most 1/2 and larger bits require 300 and under rpm. I have a very expensive set of silver and demming bits. And in my shop having a Mill, lathe, mig with spool gun, I...

1978 Craftsman Dill Press Pulley Conversion

Ok 👍 I’ll let you know. I recently got a combo smithy lathe mill so I should be able to turn a pulley to fit the spindle.

    204R Reed

Purchased this 204R several years ago. Restored it and needless to say I currently have an unrestored 204.5 sitting on the floor beside me. If I decide to sell this 204R what would it be worth? The picture of the 204R is when I restored it so the paint isn’t as mint, but there isn’t any damage...

1978 Craftsman Dill Press Pulley Conversion

I recently got a 78 Craftsman Drill Press. I don’t want or need the this number of speeds. Is there anyone who has changed it over to a 3/8 or 1/2 v belt? I am planning to work on this but I wondered what info was already out there because I couldn’t find anything existing. I saw the motor frame...

    Which Jack do you recommend?

Unfortunately I don’t have enough extra money for both, I’ve got more pressing needs, in addition I definitely do not have enough room for both…

    Which Jack do you recommend?

Also I may restore this, but I do plan on using it on a weekly/ monthly basis. Not for commercial use.

    Which Jack do you recommend?

I have a choice between a: Japanese made craftsman jack ($150) @ 40 miles or an American made Ringueberg and Van De Mark ($100) @ 90 miles. Both are about 5 ton and work. Which one would you buy? For reference R & VDM is Red Craftsman is Green

12V / On Board Air System

Thank you so much. I will check. The motor has been running ok until the smoking started which was prompted by removing a 4 inch pulley for a 6 in an attempt to speed up the motor. I am using a winch motor running 2hp at 1800 rpm. It pulls around 100 amps at 0 psi and 145 at 120 psi. I did add...
