    Used Stand By Generators

I would think of it as an investment... are you planning on staying in your house long-term? Does the power go out for any long period of time? I would **** it up and buy new, just to be sure you're getting something reliable and with a warranty.

    Electrical to Shed

Why not run an extra wire (so 240v), run 1" conduit, and do a 6-slot panel? Might as well future-proof it. The extra cost will be minimal. Better to do it now while the trench is open. Install one GFCI outlet and daisy-chain the other outlets after that to the GFCI. I don't think you need a...

    60 amp Sub Panel Feed?

Right. 100 amp subpanel/service. Breaker it for 90 at the main panel. And I thought the same thing until I got an electric vehicle. Charge a car, run a compressor, and turn on a saw and you're already over 60 amps.

    Who's a lineman?

Not afraid, it's just reality. Plenty of people think they're ok with working in bad weather until they're actually out there when it's -20 trying to do something that requires fine detail, and you have to take your gloves off. Or not realizing that -20 and windy is a completely different set of...

    60 amp Sub Panel Feed?

Just plan for 100 amp and save yourself the trouble of having to do it again in the future. So run MHF in 2" conduit. Don't forget to consider if you'll need Ethernet or cable out there (will the wifi signal reach?); it's easy to add another conduit run while the trench is open. Also don't...

    Who's a lineman?

Seems like there's a very good chance you'll be working outside in the worst weather.

    Permit Inspection

I would assume they want to see the panel/wire run, which is inside of the garage. The EV charger is mounted to the outside. I'd rather not leave the garage open all day while I'm gone?

    Permit Inspection

    It is.

    Permit Inspection

I installed an electric vehicle charger in my garage myself. It was a fairly simple process; just surface-mounted conduit, and a wire run of 25 feet to the EV charger. I've never had an inspection done before; what should I expect? Do I leave the subpanel cover off, junction box covers off, and...

    Electric Vehicle Charger

I'm installing an EV charger on the outside of my detached garage, and I'm trying to figure out the best options: Main house panel has a 200amp service. 10/3 on a 30 amp 240v breaker runs from the main panel to a junction box on the side of the house (about 25 feet). 4 strands of 10 gauge THHN...

    Insulating brick windows

Not my garage but my house. It is a 1948 brick (structural, not veneer). No insulation in the walls, and from what I understand, it would be a bad idea to insulate them with anything other than foam. Problem is, the window frames are just attached to the brick with tapcons. There is some...

    Basement floor covering

I don't think I will ever get the floor perfectly level and that is what worries me about vinyl. My understanding is the planks will disconnect and pop up if they're not perfectly flat.

    Basement floor covering

I'm looking to cover the horrific gold-flake floors in my basement. They are 50% asbestos, so covering them/not removing them is definitely the best option. The basement is pretty dry but does get a tiny bit of water in one spot after heavy rains, and there is a sump pump that goes off...

    Bender question

    They aren't cheap- $35 for a 1/2", about $40 for 3/4". I kept watching craigslist until I found a really old one for $10.

    LED Landscape Lighting

Just my personal recommendation- do the wiring in conduit. There's no regulation saying it needs to be in conduit, and you could do it super shallow. But I only suggest that because every time I've run basic low-voltage wiring for deck lights and stuff, I've had mice chew it up over the...
