New to me Proto 560S 45" Workstation - couple questions

I really appreciate the feedback. I'm struggling to find a reason to build my shop out of anything but these, knowing that I can flex them between tools, parts, projects as I see fit. I think I'll do a saved search and just buy all of them in the area as they come up cheap.

New to me Proto 560S 45" Workstation - couple questions

So I got it partly loaded tonight, so far I really appreciate the divider systems, even for tools. Nice to be able to subdivide a drawer and put the oscillating multi tool in a tidy cubby with it's accessories, etc. Any thoughts on the rollers? Not sure what maintenance if any they call for.

New to me Proto 560S 45" Workstation - couple questions

Long time lurker, don't post much. I've been looking to replace my craftsman starter tool box set for a while now, and snagged a good deal on this Proto 560S on Marketplace. The thing retails for like 8k, no idea who pays that. It's the real deal, 400lbs, heavy gauge steel, 400lb rated drawers...

How do large portable generators (inverter) handle low loads?

Whereas normal generators need to run 3600rpm to generate 60hz, they burn a relatively high amount of fuel even under low load compared to inverter generators, which run from low idle (say 1k rpm) up to 3600rpm. This is because a traditional generator runs an AC generator directly to the panel...

M18 FUEL 3/4in high Torque Impact Wrench Kit $62

It's a combobulation of the light's description and price with the impact pic and specs. **** like this comes from automated product list management that gets automatically fed in by distributors. Having integrated web tech, I can say garbage in usually guarantees garbage out. Trust me they...

Milwaukee M12 Rotary Tool Kit - HD Clearance $50

Grabbed one! Cheap way to break into m12 for slightly more than the cost of a battery!

    Computers in the shop

I'd suggest a fanless PC, which you can buy or build with some guidance using oversized heatsinks and an underclocked CPU. That's key to keeping dust out. http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/5-silent-fanless-mini-pcs-that-will-save-you-money/ SPCR is a super resource if you want to build your own...

who has the best deal on m18 fuel

Keep an eye on ebay for the odd item listed as 'new' with no box. Not sure what the gig is, but Milwaukee gives you the 5-year warranty based upon the DoM, not a receipt as I understand it. I've shopped CPO, and it's great, but the short warranty on Refurb items is a bummer.

OLD wore out machinist new member

Welcome. I hang out over at practicalmachinist.com and hobby-machinist.com, as well as weldingweb.com. Lots of good folks here though, it's a good home shop crowd. I promise that here, nobody will suggest hand-scraping your mill/drill if you complain that it's out of tram :)

    Buying my first drill

There's lots of great advice here, and that's partly because there aren't a lot of bad drills made by the major brands. :) Ryobi is definitely the cheapest you should go, stay away from harbor freight alltogether. There's no reason to buy 14/18v ni-cd anymore. Li-Ion or don't bother, it's just...

CPO is doing up to 20% off all RECON saws and drills

Oddly, no M18 Fuel portaband refurb with 20% off. Whodathunk.
