    Stihl MS170

My friend bought me one in exchange for helping him for the day. Both of us were impressed with the little saw and it cut down a few 12" trees no problem. Where it really excels is cutting off the limbs since it's so light.

    Woodworking 101--Tools and Tips

Finished two projects I've been working on for a while. First is a coffee table. Base is mortise and tenon construction with honey locust stock and the top is curly maple finished with Arm-R-Seal. Next is a lamp. The lumber yard has a pile of scrap outside for free. It's mostly poplar off...

    Finish and brad nailer

My harbor freight 2 in one 18ga brad nailer and stapler works fine for me. I've never used staples in it but it shoots brads no problem. I've never needed anything smaller than a brad so I'm not sure how much use you'd get out of a pin/finish nailer. For the compressor I have a California Air...

Powermatic 1200 auction ending soon... what to do?

That's easily worth $50 sight unseen. The question is how much more is it worth to you? As someone who already has a decent light duty drill press, I'd probably go to $250.

My first hand cut dovetails. I'm pretty happy with how they turned out, this is the best joint on a small 6x6 box I made out of poplar. The rest weren't too much worse besides the first one where I mistakenly cut on the wrong side of my knife wall once. I'm gonna keep practicing at least a few...

Next time I see one of those cheap steel Stanley low angle block planes, I'm gonna buy it and cut the front off for my own chisel plane. Don't worry, I won't butcher a nice #60 or 65

I'm making a marking gauge because I'm too cheap to pay for a veritas. Plus I want multiple. Blackwood fence, stainless steel rod and a 1/4-20 flathead screw as a cutter. I faced it on the lathe so it's pretty sharp. Hopefully it'll hold a decent edge. Next up is a dual marking gauge.

I showed my dad the Stanley #78 rabbet plane I got. He said he had one just like it that I could have. I thought great, this will be like the time I got a Stanley #5 and he gave me an identical #5 a week later. Turns out this time it was something different, a Stanley #48 tongue and groove...
