    Wallace 16" Bandsaw

Picked up a JD Wallace 16" Bandsaw today. Runs smoothly and both wheels appear to be in good shape. Ordered some new urethane tires and will put it to work soon. Can't seem to find much information online, but it appears to be from the 1920's or 1930's.

Thank you for the links. One of these days I'm going to have to learn how to search the forums properly.

    Chain Hoist Frame

My father in law gave me an old Fairline L-70 3 Ton Chain Hoist and I want to use it to lift items out of the back of my pickup, off a trailer, maybe pull an engine, etc... I'm thinking about building some sort of A-Frame and\or Gantry crane on wheels for portability inside and outside of the...

    New 40x60x14 Metal Building Project

And we finally dried out enough to put the bulldozer to work this week, however, after the 10th dump got stuck, they called off the dirt haulers for the day. Hope to get them back on Monday to finish building the pad site with concrete to follow.

    Time to Build

Yea we're actually bringing in 55+\- truckloads of select fill to build up a pad site 2+ feet from the ground and then 5 inches of concrete to top it off. The finished floor will be about 4-5 inches higher than the house and the house stayed dry, so we're relatively confident it'll stay dry.

    New 40x60x14 Metal Building Project

Neighbors have been here 16 years and have never seen water that high and the local news are calling it a 500 year flood event, so I'm hopeful we'll never see it again. That being said, the shop floor will be the highest elevation on the property. Here's a shot of my Generator, note that it...

    New 40x60x14 Metal Building Project

So I finally received a permit to start construction on my new shop. It will be a stand alone 40x60X14 metal building on a slab. Now that I have a permit and contractors lined up, the rains came calling and we had a deluge of 17+ inches over a 48 hour period. Needless to say the building...

Does this estimate for a concrete floor sound right to anyone? Appreciate it!

In Texas I was quoted $5.58\foot for flat work (4" driveway, sidewalks, etc..) and $6.25/foot for foundation (40'x60'x5" 3500 psi) with footers, beams, re-rod, etc.. Have had a real problem getting contractors to bid.

    Time to Build

And after much discussion, groveling, and gnashing of teeth, the powerful leaders of the county have granted me a proper building permit, so that we can begin construction on this project.....of course Houston got 18 inches of rain the next day and the two feet of water pouring across my...

    Standby generator: Power whole house?

I installed a Kohler 48KW to power up both AC units, Pool, Hot Tub, Fridges, Freezers, Neighbors coffee pot, and etc... with automatic transfer switch. Runs on LP Gas. I live along the Texas Gulf Coast at the end of the power lines and lost power for 10 days during Hurricane Ike in 2008...

    Floor Drains

Good advice, however we don't get much snow melt off vehicles here in the Gulf Coast. I really just want to be able to rinse my home brew kettles, wash the occasional car, and be able to hose down the garage occasionally.

    Floor Drains

I'm outside of city limits with private septic system and am thinking I can just run it to daylight and\or into a french drain out the back of the building. Will need to check with my plumber friend to see what the code says I guess.

    Floor Drains

In the planning stages for a 40x60x14 building and am considering putting in a floor drain in the foundation. Anybody have any suggestions as to type of drain and output configuration? John

    Metal Building vs Pole Barn

I'm in the planning stages of a 40x60x14 building to use for storage and various hobbies (wood, metal, auto, etc...). Anybody have any advice or opinions on the pros and cons of a Metal Building over a Pole Barn? Have looked at Morton Buildings as well as various metal providers.

    Time to Build

Hello All, I'm a 50 year old IT geek living on 3 acres in Katy, TX just west of Houston with my bride of 30 years. We bought this place to retire on and it is a paradise, missing only a building to play in. We are planning on building a 40x60x14 foot building to use as a multi-purpose...
