    SPEEDY compressor

I have an old Speedy diaphragm compressor that I just fitted a gas engine to for pumping up tires out in BFE. I believe it's a 60's model, not sure the exact model number but a 875 looks right. It's automatically regulated to 40psi or so. Seems like I can put a stronger spring in the relief...

Switching 110v motor with drum switch to 220v

OK I figured out how to make it work but post 4 is always hot, any way to do this where I can have both 'hots' disconnected when the drum switch is in 'neutral'?

Switching 110v motor with drum switch to 220v

Ok finally got the all the wires traced. Here is the tag on the motor. Now here is a crude drawing of how it's all connected on low voltage Now here is how the motor tag says it should be wired on high voltage. My problem is how do I wire the drum switch to accomplish this? I have a main...

Switching 110v motor with drum switch to 220v

Hello all, My lathe has a 1hp dual voltage single phase motor on it with a drum type reversing switch. It's hard to see the label but it's an older Chicago Electric motor, I can try and get the model number later if needed. It's currently set up for 110v and everything works. I need to change...

    Torch selection

Thanks for the heads up! How do I tell the difference? I'm going to pick up a used one, I figured that rebuilding an old one would be better than a new one. I'm eyeballing this one at the moment: http://www.ebay.com/itm/302236272487?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

    Torch selection

Damn, thank you MoonRise!! Medium duty is the one for me then! Thanks for all the info, I've been trying to research this stuff and could only find little bits and pieces of info and it made it a bit confusing. It sounds like I need to pick up an MC509/WH100 and then a bunch of tips. Thanks guys!

    Torch selection

I'm looking into getting an oxy/propane setup. I'm looking at Smith torches, and like all the other brands they have light, medium, and heavy duty. Am I understanding correctly that heavy duty means that it's robust and will last forever and be able to do big jobs, and therefore I should go for...

    A-Frame hoist

Nice! Adjustability would come in handy. Thanks for the pictures!

    A-Frame hoist

Whatever I come up with, I'll carefully test it before I do anything and of course not stand under it. I've seen people pull big blocks with wooden 2x4 frames so I'm sure I could get away with using pipe, but I'll see what kind of materials I can get and go from there. Thanks!

    A-Frame hoist

I found another design that uses square tube and has braces for the top beam and legs, seems like that would be better. I have bigger welders, just don't have a power outlet so I'd have to take them to work and weld them there. I'm going to make a trip to the steel yard and see what kind of...

    A-Frame hoist

I was looking at the 2ton, still pretty short but it might have to do if the a frame won't work out.

    A-Frame hoist

Maybe I got a dud, but some of the welds on the chinese engine stands are horrible. I could lay down better welds even with a flux welder with proper prep. But yes, I'm not yet an engineer so I'm looking at how they were designed and what size materials they used. Thanks

    A-Frame hoist

I attached some pictures of one that would work perfect for me (credit to HemiDeuce on the HAMB), sounds like it's similar to the one you use. What do you think? I'm only lifting maybe 400#, just inline sixes with no transmissions attached. Two guys can pick one up. I realize now that pipe is...
