I have a few of those same Youngstown cabinets with the chrome handles as above. I also have a slightly different style with rounded corners. All the houses in my neighborhood had metal cabinets when they were built in the 50's. Need to get some pics.

I would find new friends that dont smoke, that would be the easiest/cheapest way to fix the problem.
