    Bubble Wrap As Insulation

I posted this on a pool forum but thought I would get some opinions here as well. I live in northern MN. We recently put up an Above Ground Pool. We are trying to find ways to keep the heat in at night. We have a solar cover and then 2" foam board on top of that. Someone suggested we need...

Used Motor Oil - Need Suggestions

I don't want to get rid of it, I want to use it. Do you have pictures and/or plans on how you made a water to water boiler for your pool? I think that is a great idea. Thanks!

Used Motor Oil - Need Suggestions

Dude, I live in Northern MN. I have yet to get my pool above 82 deg, which might seem refreshing except our day time temps are usually around 75...with any bit of wind and it is freezing when you get out. Plus, night gets down to mid 50's...and this goes on ALL "summer".

Used Motor Oil - Need Suggestions

I have a TON of used motor oil. I'm hoping to find a good way to use it to burn. I have a 55 gallon wood stove I use to heat my garage in the winter and pool in the summer. Is there a way to use that motor oil to help the barrel get hotter? Or, is there a good set up any one knows to burn...

    How To Fix This?

No, they are not all similar to this design, except the other end trusses (which has not damage). Also, I have been inspecting all the trusses, walls, posts, etc. and have not found anything to be out of line or that seemed to move.

    How To Fix This?

I am in the process of putting a ceiling up in my pole barn and I found one of the metal plate connectors on an end truss starting to crack (possibly pulling away) from the 2x6 bottom chord it is attached to. Based on some surface evidence this cracking is at least a year old, and maybe even...

    Garage divider wall/curtain

I'm in the process of dividing my garage as well. I'm simply going to make 3 walls pieces ( each approx 8'x9') that will attach with an L-bracket to the bottom of my truss. I'll be able to take the wall apart (simply unbolt the brackets from the trusses) and move them off to the side when I...

Blow-in Insulation Question - can I do this?

Is it possible to use blow-in insulation using hand application? I am looking to insulate my drop ceiling in my pole barn, the cheapest way. I would be putting up 2x4 nailers between the bottom cord of my trusses at 24"OC. I would then put material up along the 2x4's and then fill the...

    Will the ceiling collapse?

Is this a good article on what you are talking about? http://www.hansenpolebuildings.com/blog/2012/02/collateral-loads/ Maybe you can translate it for me based on my barn measurements. It is a 30x60 foot, 9' bottom chord, 15' peak room? Does that help?

    Will the ceiling collapse?

The eve height is 9' (even with the bottom chord of the truss that I am attaching the ceiling to). No, I will be using the existing lights, not hanging any. The "5-7 lb range" for what readhead? Per foot?

    Will the ceiling collapse?

I am in the process of dividing my pole barn into a work/play area. I have another thread here: http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=187815 My pole barn is 30x60, so my area will be 30x30. As with most pole barns, the trusses are not typically made for bearing weight. I am...

Insulating My Pole Barn - need help

Thanks for your help guys. I do appreciate you giving me how you set it up, however I was wondering more or less if my "possible" set up will work. My plan is to either A. To fit polystyrene (styrofoam) between the horizontal girts (along the walls) - the polystyrene will be in contact with the...

Insulating My Pole Barn - need help

Hello Guys I am new to this forum. Here is my situation. I live in Northern, MN. I have a 30x60 pole barn. It is not insulated. I am in the process of insulating the walls and need a little help. I am on a very tight budget and the building is not something that I will be using all the time...

    Insulating pole barn roof

Hello I am in the process of insulation my pole barn, specifically the walls. My pole barn seems very similar to yours. The outside is metal, then wood framing attached to 4x6 poles, then some additional wood framing (I'm guessing for finishing with drywall or something). Anyway, for the...
