She isn't quite finished yet I still have to replace the belt along with the restoration of the motor its self, but she is back to being self-standing, and she is looking good. I got some pictures as well as a little side upgrade I made to the set up for the drill press as...

Cleaning a mid 1900s craftsman motor

What would be considered to harsh and abrasive? Would a scotch bright pad be to rough on it? With some purple power to clean it? What about a wire brush or a soak in Evapo-rust ?

Loyalty to a brand for a dumb reason

Hey, everyone, I was thinking about some tool brands recently and why we use them. Some for reasons cause they are the less expensive brand some for, the higher quality. Then I thought. "what are some of the dumb reasons for loyalty to one brand more than others?" I for one prefer Dewalt over...

Restoring a mid 50s model CraftsMen Drill Press

I`m just outside of the Birmingham area. Your drill press looks sharp, especially with that light blue color. How did you remount the craftsman logo and the metal band on the head frame did you use the same rivets that were on it or did you thread the existing holes and put new screws in their...

Restoring a mid 50s model CraftsMen Drill Press

Finally got to do some work on the drill press. First big deals are the new paint job on the head frame. The head frame before paint. And after the paint. I decided to go with a black paint job because the black and shined up metal will look sharp together. The old power switch with...

    Iron Hill smithy

Quick update on the forge. I opened up the vise and took apart the pivot part as well as taking off the outer jaw. Cleaned it up a bit and put a whole new nut bolt and washers on it. Here is the vise after being given new life and opening up under its own power.

    Rusty Leg Vise Restoration

Back with the leg vise and with some closer pictures. I am starting with the good news. The jaws of the Vise are in pretty good shape and close up parallel to each other. The threads of the vise are in excellent shape. I didn't see any chips or breaks in the threads except for the next...

    Iron Hill smithy

Back in the forge again we go. This time just some pictures to show what I will need to be doing to the shop in the coming weeks/months. Here is the covering of the shop. It was mostly made as a temporary structure until I got the shop fully operational and could afford to use properly...

    Iron Hill smithy

Hello everyone well Today I made the last step I needed to prepare for my home forge set up to be in working order. The leg vise has been mounted, and with it, all three main components to the shop are fully armed and operational (for the most part). I have not found a local source of...
