    Thoughts on Recessed Lights

If you use the correct cans and space them correctly it will be fine. Most important question is the ceiling height, generally you want the cans 4' on center. There are some real good led cans on the market know but it would be some serious money. But, you would be at about 1/3 of the total...

That is not a bad price for a triple tube with reflector fixture. You could do twin tube T-8's which are a dime a dozen and be fine. Just make sure they are a name brand like Lithonia. Or if you want to be cool, do T-5 HO fixtures, more money but lots of punch. -Joe

Best way to splice 6/3 wire?

Use a split bolt connector on each wire then wrap each connection with a roll of electrical tape then maybe some cloth electrical tape over that.

    New Guy-Lighting Questions

I'm a lighting rep so I have access to all this stuff and then some. In your case I would do fluorescent, T-8 or T-5 lamps. Current ballast's fire at zero degress so cold isn't that big a deal. Ceiling ,floor and wall color all affect the brightness of a room. If your ceiling is finished &...

    Recessed lighting

If you want halogen recessed, use 4" cans with 50 watt mr16 lamps. There are about 8 different beam spreads and un like par 20/par 30 medium base 120v halogen lamps, the heat goes out the back of the lamp, so they are cooler and much better looking than a 6" hole in your ceiling.

    Lights in the floor

You need to use a fixture that is rated for vehicles to drive over, a pool light is not. Also a PL9 is not going to give much light, I would use at least a PL18 lamp. Just my .002 worth :bounce:

    What lights to use?

Metalux or Lithonia are good quality fixtures. 12' o.f.f is good, If you want to do something trick, you could use triple tube T-5 fixtures with a reflector. You would definatly have some light then. Or use the T-8 stuff and supplement with a couple metal halide hibays for some different color.

    Lights in the floor

You also need to remember that as soon as you step on or put something over a light your going to have a dark spot or shadow where your hands are. The better quality landscape companies(SPJ, Focus & Lumie) make inground fixtures you can drive over. Or you can go with comercial fixtures and lamp...

Well Mr Godzila I do have a Cobra replica and a 93' Lightning with turbo. But back to your question. I don't know what your budget is or what the building will be used for, but those 4' T-12 lamps **** compaired to T-8 lamps. As far as putting the fixtures up on the ceiling it depends on if the...

Electronic ballast fixtures work better in the cold, the amount of time they need to warm up is a lot less than magnetic ballasts.

I'm a lighting rep so I know a few things about this. First off, what are you trying to light? Is this just general light for the garage? Do you want to highlight something? If it's just general light I would stick with T8 fluorescent fixtures, they are the smaller diameter tube. Get electronic...
