OP, is it thin paneling? I have paneling in my garage too (built in 68). What I have is 3/4" think 4x8 Sheets of wood that were grooved to look like individual planks. One of the home owners before me painted it white, and it looks great.

Are you saying this is a good price? There is a big hollow spot in the middle underneath the driveway from bad drainage. You can't tell how bad it is, and that is why he says it could be more. Honestly I think I will get that from everyone who comes out to estimate it.
