that could be the unloader valve to help starting the motor. It's usually connecting the pressure regulator/power switch to the check valve on the tank though

I have lots of needlenoses. I would say Swiss made Wiha are the best, hard to find. Next up is Knipex, then NWS. Newer comfort grip Wiha are not bad and very cheap. Then Wilde-sourced Craftsman and the Channellock would be last, they are just not smooth and refined and tightly fit.
