You now have $25,000 to spend on your garage

More tools for metal work- a small(ish) or vintage hobbyist mill and lathe, a heftier vertical bandsaw, MIG or TIG and oxy-acetylene setups (I've MIG-ed before but never TIG-ed), a CNC cutter (probably DIY on that budget), etc. Mostly used or vintage. Aaaand a bunch of scrap metal to play with...

Scored Some cool old & homemade tools

Just found 3 of these in a large lot of tools I purchased. This is exactly right. I tried one out yesterday, and wished that it turned the screw a bit more each time; should have its place though. Also, that use of the magnet makes perfect sense.

    Mystery Tool Of The Day

Just bought an entire garage for $200, full of Proto, Snap On, and other high quality USA-made goodies (including a big rolling Kennedy tool chest with sidebox and vintage CAT rolling cart :D ). Included was this, which I haven't been able to find any information on. The bottom says "Wanner...

What to do with all your cordless tools that no longer charge?

Not with the same battery circuitry and certainly not with the same charger. You would only be using the old battery's plastic case and terminals (i.e. you would basically have to buy a whole new battery).

    Mold making

How about vacuum forming? You should be able to make a cheap rig using not much more than a plywood/mdf box/frame, shop vac (which you may already have), and a small space heater (or kitchen oven if you don't mind). It should work with polystyrene, PET, polycarbonate, ABs, and maybe a few...

Plomb tool picture thread - show your stuff!

Re: ~ Plomb tool picture thread - show your stuff! I just picked up a handful of non-pebble DOE wrenches at a flea market. Since several were completely encrusted in rust (could barely read 'em), I let them soak in white vinegar for a while, brushed them lightly by hand (gloves!) while they...

    2014 Garage sale thread!

Lol, thanks for the welcome and the warning. Already have a tool chest that I was gifted as a teenager, and have picked up a few smaller ones from garage sales in the last few weeks for ~$5 each. I spent the most today of any garage sale day so far; last year, I'd say I spent between $100-200 at...

    2014 Garage sale thread!

New member, long-time lurker. I've been hitting garage sales weekly for about a year how, and had some amazing finds in this time. I'm not going to hog the thread to show all of that off, so here's just the new stuff. I hit a bunch of garage sales this morning. I started out early, but hit pay...

    Eifel Plierench Jaws

I picked up an 8 1/2" Eifel Plierench (early, "Pat May 1916" version), marked "8 1/2 - B -22." It only came with one of the original jaws, and I'd like to buy some of the others if anyone has them (a package deal for several would be great!). If anyone is familiar, are the jaws for the earlier...

Loving those Eifels. Definitely keeping an eye out for them. Are there any Plomb ratchets that you recommend over the others? I almost feel like they're too pretty to use; how would you say they stand up to "modern" ratchets?

    The Harbor Freight PASS/FAIL Thread...

Chicago 3in x 21in Belt Sander, Item#69859 - PASS I've had this for almost a year, and have put many hours on it sanding very hard wood (ipe) without a hiccup. The belt does not drift to either side, construction is solid, and adjustments need only be made once (i.e. they don't drift either)...

    Favorite vintage tool

After a somewhat disastrous second post (for anyone wondering, I swear that the CL listing wasn't mine, and I'm sorry if upset anyone), I feel compelled to redeem myself with a (hopefully) much better post. After seeing this post: http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=177843, I...

    Cochran Tools

Thanks for the post! I just picked up one of the speednut wrenches cheaply from the 'bay and look forward to seeing it in person. The seller says that it has a little surface rust, but it should clean up nicely.

    The Harbor Freight PASS/FAIL Thread...

I own the blue ones (~1yr) and the green ones (~2 weeks). The blue ones and the red ones (from what I can recall after trying them on 2 weeks ago) have very little grip, whereas the green ones are very grippy. All have good mobility, breathe well, and are durable. Of the three, I vastly prefer...
