Best/cheapest way to bend some 3/4” tubing?

There is a huge difference between different types of 3/4" tube and/or pipe. As pointed out above, there is EMT, which is very thin-walled light stuff. Then there is 3/4" steel pipe, which can be schedule 10, 40, 80 or more. For those bends you need hydraulics or significant mechanical...

Keeping a table top drill press handy but also out of the way.

I put a benchtop DP on a floor stand made of a truck wheel with a plate bolted to it, pipe welded to plate. Easy to roll around, just tip it a little. Never occurred to me to actually put a benchtop machine on my bench! That's where my clutter goes ...

    Nitrogen regulator

So you're saying his nitrogen regulator is an HVAC gauge? And what do you mean by "this doesn't really need to be perfect"? And it sounds like you're worried the thing is full of mouse turds.

    Campbell Hausfeld IronForce compressor value?

It will be loud and smell hot. You can expect to replace the check valve every few years. I don't know if it has reed valves or disc valves, pressure lubrication or splash, what kind of unloader system it uses, if its crank has replaceable bearings or not, or if the crankshaft seal can be...

    Nitrogen regulator

Airco purchased Davis Bournonville a long time ago, over 100 years ago in 1922. I am guessing that the lenses on those gauges are made of glass. It is no longer legal to sell replacement lenses for those gauges. You may be able to find glass of the right diameter and thickness and grind the...

    Air compressor identification

It's not that hard to tear down compressors. By the time you get the crankshaft out you will have lots of confidence and you can simply replace the bearing and build all back up again. It will probably do it good to free up the rings in their grooves and to clean and relap the valves anyway.

Compressor - to drain or not drain?

I haven't noticed anyone commenting on the relatively new practice of building bucket high drain valves into vertical air tanks. By "bucket high" I mean you can comfortably slide a 5 gallon bucket under the valve. Behind the valve is a rubber dip tube that runs down to the floor of the tank. In...

great trick to help turn large pipe fittings

I *have* a 36" Ridgid pipe wrench! The last time I tried to get out one of these 2" pipe fittings (that one was a plug with square male stem for the wrench, this one is a bushing with a hex for the wrench) it just wound up ripping pieces off of the part without ever turning it. That's what I...

great trick to help turn large pipe fittings

I had to pull off a 2" pipe bushing from a vertical air compressor tank. I didn't have any wrench that big (2-1/2" across the hex flats). No big impact gun or big impact sockets. I read up on all the tribal knowledge presented here - use heat, huge wrench with long cheater bar, try tightening a...

How to clean VERY old duct/duck tape off metal drawer fronts?

Given how cheap heat guns are these days, I would certainly try that first. I have removed many labels with one.

Vintage Devillbiss air regulator and dryer HB502 rebuildable?

That website is for a company in Phoenix who sells spray painting equipment. The DeVilbiss company was Canadian and they sold air compressors. Whether the Arizona company licensed the name is sort of moot - they sure don't have compressor parts. Doesn't mean DV parts aren't available. There are...

Vintage Devillbiss air regulator and dryer HB502 rebuildable?

That's a filter regulator. When you say "air dryer" a lot of people start thinking about refrigeration and/or heat exchangers and stuff. I doubt you can buy that diaphragm. However, I once bought an old DeVilbiss filter/regulator and its diaphragm was shot and I was able to make a new one out...

    Wayne Compressor

    > Q1 does the compressor represent any monetary value? The tank alone is worth money, even if it had failed hydrotesting. Especially if it is 24" diameter - those are highly sought after by people who want to make a meat smoker or two firepits. > Q2 does the motor have any monetary value...

What Gauge Metal Top for Workbench?

Clamp a piece of flat bar along your cut line. Use it as a fence to guide an angle grinder with an abrasive cutting disc on it. You will be surprised how clean you can cut lines that way. Tip: let the disc do the cutting. You can press hard and it will cut faster but it will wear the wheel away...

Socket to fit square lug on tank inspection plugs?

ASME air tanks have 2 inspection ports on the side. I think they are 3" pipe thread. Somewhere somebody must make an impact socket to fit the slightly tapered square male lugs on these pipe plugs. These plugs are a holy ***** to remove. The last time I tried I put a 3 foot pipe wrench on the...

    Pipe Dope

If you mix red lead powder (litharge) and glycerine in the correct ratio and apply it to threads, the compound will dry hard as stone. This is old school and cannot be unthreaded without heat, but it will never leak.
