I love getting paid $45 for a simple tack weld.

    The Machine Work Thread

I was working the last few evenings to make an adapter to mount a 5" three-jaw chuck to my 6" rotary table. I'm almost finished, just have to added a few mounting holes.

    Sanford SG-48 Surface Grinder

$100. I thought that was pretty fair. I think by the time it's stripped down, fixed up, and a chuck put on it, it'll be worth closer to the $750 mark.

    Sanford SG-48 Surface Grinder

I couldn't resist the urge to plug it in and check the motor if it worked. I'm sensing the belt is shot from all the years of sitting.

    Sanford SG-48 Surface Grinder

Thanks! As I work on getting it fixed up, I'll have to start looking for wheels.

    Sanford SG-48 Surface Grinder

I have a small machine shop in my basement and have always been intrigued by surface grinders. This one popped up for sale on a machinist FB page, so I struck a deal with the seller and braved the blizzard like conditions here in NE Wisconsin this morning to pick it up. I honestly doing know...

Welders on top of roller cabinet?

I'm waiting on my kit from ZTFab to show up, but my setup when it's done will look like this:

    Need some 4x6 bandsaw recommendations

Yikes, that's an expensive little saw.

    Need some 4x6 bandsaw recommendations

I've read through some of the other bandsaw threads and didn't find one that gave much details on what 4x6 bandsaws were among the best in terms of features and robust components (seems some have cast vs stamped and iron vs aluminum parts). Granted, I'm under no delusion that an import 4x6...

The North-east Wisconsin Radiator Shop Re-boot

There are a few options for Environmental inspections, but at this point it's simply not worth dumping an extra couple thousand dollars into a $35K building especially given the current condition and other fixes it needs to be usable. For other properties I own, they are held in LLCs, so I do...

The North-east Wisconsin Radiator Shop Re-boot

Looks like the deal is dead in the water. After talking it through with some of my advisors, we agreed it was best given the environmental concerns not to go through with the deal. No sense in loosing tons of rental properties or going bankrupt trying to fix someone else's sloppy waste disposal...

    Stronghold Cabinet

I have a Stronghold cabinet for sale. It is model number 36-244. It measures 36"w x 24"d x 72"h If you are unfamiliar with this type of cabinet, they are incredibly heavy duty. Each shelf is rating to 1900 lbs and the cabinet itself weighs 475 lbs. I can certainly do my best to help you load...

The North-east Wisconsin Radiator Shop Re-boot

Yes and no. While most hazardous waste would be long down the pipes, there is potential for there to be residual in the concrete and soil as well as the drain system.

The North-east Wisconsin Radiator Shop Re-boot

Located in Oshkosh, but have properties all over the Fox Valley. I could start looking for a new place, but doubt I'll find something comparable.

The North-east Wisconsin Radiator Shop Re-boot

A slight update on the deal. As I progress toward closing and jump through all the hoops and bounds of commercial buildings and commercial lending, the topic of hazardous waste and the possibility of site contamination came up. While my engineering sense says that a radiator shop likely...

The North-east Wisconsin Radiator Shop Re-boot

As an avid tinkerer I've reached a point where I can justify buying a shop. For the last 20+ years I've been fascinated with tearing things apart, machining, fixing houses and everything that goes with it. I'm a full-time desk jockey by day and a shade-tree machinist/gunsmith and rental...

    Transfer pump recommendations

Does anyone have a recommendation for a quality transfer pump that can be used for filling transmissions and differentials underneath the vehicle? I've seen many red ones that are branded by different manufacturers, but have read mixed reviews on the quality.
