    Built-it-myself tools/machines - show us what you've done

Here's one of my latest contraptions. A 5' sheet metal brake, now with hydraulic power. All the steel was drops from previous jobs. The hydraulics are from my Hossfeld bender. Took about 15 hours to build it. The brake. It bolts to my layout table. The hydraulics. Simply un-pin the cyl from...

    brother bought another lemon jeep

You do know what JEEP stands for don't you. Just Enough Extra Parts. Just Empty Every Pocket. That said, I am definitely a Jeep fan. I've had a '77 FS Cherokee Chief, 2 CJ-5's (a couple more if you count all the extra parts), and my current DD is a '99 XJ sport. The XJ is a 4.0 with...

    Race car dash fabrication

Just a thought about the alloys. If you plan on bending/braking (not breaking) it you'd probably want to stick with 3003, it will bend easier and is less likely to crack when bent.

Ordered A Miller 211 MIG Welder

I haven't used a 211 but I have used several of Miller's 250s, 251s, Bobcats, and Trailblazers, they're all great machines. I use a Spoolmate 100 with Passport Plus and have had great results. The Spoolmate is no 3035, but it's also less than 1/4th the price. I have run it for 4-6 hrs steady...

New different 4 1/2" angle grinder

x2 Once you use a Metabo you wont want anything else. Powerful, smooth, long lasting. I may not use mine quite as often as jmh21586 but I do regularly spend a couple of days at a time grinding on ornamental metal projects once or twice a week. One of my abrasives suppliers just sent a flier...

    Honey Do #1...

Thanks, but the truth is I owe her a lot more than these rails. However she has had these on the "lay away" plan for a few years, if you know what I mean. I've started on the next section and will put more pics up as it progresses, but it'll have to wait a day or two while I take care...

    Honey Do #1...

Thanks. I draw the arc on my lay out table then cut the parts about 8" too long and bend it on my Hossfeld #2 bender. Wifey and I are getting excited to see these finished. Our porch will be so much nicer. While we're doing this we're going to paint the concrete slab to match the front door...

    Honey Do #1...

Ha ha. If mine did they'd eat me out of house and home. No cupboards would be safe. Thanks. The list is seven years old, goes on into the bazillions and I'm still in the single digit projects.

    Honey Do #1...

...of a bazillion. My wife and I bought our house back on '02 ( or '03, I forget). Front porch has those cheesy twisted flat bar and channel ****-tastic box store rails and a broken gate. They have bugged the s*** out of me since we moved in. Every time I look at them I throw up a little...

Inherited a bottle with company name now what?

There are 3 local welding shops around here, (WNC) I've never had any trouble at all. Bring a bottle, take a bottle, and one outfit (that just got bought by a larger regional chain) stops at my shop every Wednesday for bottle swaps.:pimpflash I own all mine, it's way cheaper in the long run. 7...

question about stick and mig welding stainless steel

Pick according to the alloy # of the work. For 308 and down use 308L rod. For 309 and up to be super right about it use the rod for the alloy #'s will match. But you can get away with 316L for most, with decent results.

    Truck bed extender

Yeah I did say 3k, that's what the owner told me. But I just checked Toyota's web site and it's more like 1700 lb. Which is the same as it's payload capacity, which makes more sense.

    Tube bender

DUDE! SWEET! There's not many things that compare to busting open the crate on a new machine, is there. (not counting all the things we like women for)

I know! Crazy aint it? And to make it worse if anything happened to that gate it's around 2 g to replace. -Brian- www.appironworks.com

    Truck bed extender

Thanks, yes the anchor is a factory footman (tie down) loop mounted to the bed's rear most standard pocket. To load just lay the ramps on the extender, and strap them so they don't slide out from underneath you, then ride on up into the bed. I offered to make him a set of clip on ramps, but...

    Truck bed extender

Thanks.Yeah I thought the same thing when the owner told me about that. That means my fat azz is to much for it. I reckon you're supposed to step over the gate to get in the bed. I may not see the wisdom in the carpet either, but I'm not about to start bashing a customer's truck...

    Truck bed extender

Yup, it's a quad cab, nice truck, too. One of the limited whatever model Tundra, loaded. Came with some sort of nice 20" Toyota rims with Nitto all terrains, sharp if you like that kind of thing. (I'd rather have a set of boggers on 10" soft 8's but this aint my rig) You're close, the cl of...

    Truck bed extender

I built this little project so a customer could haul his ATV with out having to pull a trailer. It's getting powder coated black right now and should be ready for pick up tomorrow afternoon. -Brian- www.appironworks.com

    Tube bender

Here's mine. Hossfeld no. 2 Got it with the dies and 2800 lb table for a steal at an estate auction. Jack that table looks great, nice job. That Baliegh RDB 125 looks sweet, too. I picked up one of their BS 210M band saws last year, I'm very pleased with it. -Brian-...
