    Simple?? question about a relay

I recently bought a Miller Dynasty welder and a Coolmate 3 cooler for it. As the option for automating the cooler was $600, I opted against that purchase. What I am looking to do is get a relay so that when I turn on the welder, the cooler automatically turns on. I do not want to open up the...

Problems with using high bay lighting in an 8 ft garage shop

I am considering using 4ft 6-bulb fixtures in my garage. Saw these at HD and looked really bright http://www.homedepot.com/p/t/202193185?catalogId=10053&langId=-1&storeId=10051&N=5yc1vZ25ecodZbvmb&R=202193185#.UR1MMx03vIc I called Lithonia and they said there would be dark spots since the...

I am such an idiot!! But I have a clean engine

Living in Long Island I prepared the snow thrower before the storm.. Filled with gas, put it near the garage door. This morning I go to start it up ( had not done so since last year) and it was running very rough. Certainly a fuel problem I thought. After all, I did not empty all the gas...

    Milwaukee drywall saw

I seem to recall seeing a thread on one of these somewhere, but I cannot seem to find it by searching. I am looking for a drywall saw, but came across this http://www.milwaukeetool.com/tools/hand-tools/quik-lok-job-saw/48-08-0401quik-lok-job-saw, which looks pretty versatile. My other thought...

Repairing leaks in copper air lines

Well, I finished ( or so I thought) sweating all the pipe for my air compressor. Turned it on for the first time, and discovered a leak in one of the elbows. It is an audible leak, so not something I can live with. Now, I know the proper way to fix it is to take it all down and re-sweat the...

    Sawzall- rotating handle a benefit?

I am in the market for a sawzall and was doing some research into the different options. First of all I am not a contractor and will not be using this daily. Just your basic DIY guy who would rather buy a tool like this once in a lifetime. I am set on buying Milwaukee (though I have read good...

    Which Milwaukee Drill?

I have been looking around to get a new drill and have decided on a Milwaukee 1/2", in large part because of their toughness and recommendations from people here. I do not need the absolute biggest most powerful drill, but I do want something that if I need to use it for long periods it would...

Air tool oil or just use Mobil 1?

On a recent thread about spray lubricants, "Kingperformance" mentioned that he uses Mobil 1 0 weight oil for his air tools. I was just wondering if there was a difference between air tool oil and any other light weight oil. It's not a cost issue or anything, just a curiosity.

Any creeps.....I mean creepers , out there?

I use a mid-size scissor lift in my garage and was looking for a good, comfortable creeper. I am a big guy with a bad back, and it is a pain, literally, to slide in and out from under the car. I was looking at several creepers including the bone, and some padded models like this one from...

    Forida Pneumatic ratchets. Opinions?

I haven't found much, if any, input on Florida Pneumatic tools-specifically 3/8" or 1/4" air ratchets. From their website I see that their products are either US made or from Japan (which I always thoght of as a good thing, as opposed to China or Taiwan). The tools seem quite reasonably...

Help me find a CSPS toolchest

I went to Costco , but they only sell what seems to me to be a poorly constructed ?IPKO? box, made in China. I am looking for a 41" CSPS box like Costco used to sell, the one I should have bought there many months ago when I first saw it. I have no idea where else to look. A google search has...

    Die grinders and cutoff tools

I was looking around at these tools, did a search on the board, and was surprised to see essentially no information about them. The birthday is approaching and I am putting together a list to give to the wife and kids. The Nitrocat 1/2" 100ac is top on the list. A little backround info- I am...

Supplier for air hose and fittings

I am looking for a place to purchase some short lengths of rubber air hose, barbed fittings with one end pipe thread, oetiker clamps, and similar items. Does anyone have a reliable supplier? I thought I had one, but they don't seem to respond to my e-mails, calls, and faxes (but that's a whole...

What do I do with this wire?

I used a #6-3 w/grd to wire a 240V safety switch. The white wire is unused at both ends of the run. Do I cut it at the point of entry at the breaker box and switch, or do I leave it with a wire nut and tape, labelled, inside the box?

    Quick safety switch question

Just a quick question before I throw the switch. I have the switch wired, and as you can see line comes in from above and load from below. 2 hots and a ground. I have the ground connected to a blade on the switch. Is this okay or do I need to bypass the switch blades and connect the grounds...

    Novel idea for whip hoses

I finally am finishing up soldering all the copper and running electric for my compressor. Since I tend to search and obsess about projects, this one should be no different, right? So as luck would have it there this thread http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6941 about...

    Natural gas supply line sizing

I am looking to find any information on how to calculate natural gas supply line size for a recently installed grill. Burners total 100,000BTU. Though I have not checked it, I am told that supply pressure is approx. 7"w.c. The run is about 70ft or so. I presently have a 3/4" supply, which is...

Ran #6 wire to compressor, so how do I splice them?

Okay, so now that I ran 6-3 w/ground for my compressor, how do you splice these things? First of all, I know I am only using 2 hot and a ground. As luck would have it I had 45' of it left over from a job that was done in my prior house and I brought it with me when I moved because, hey, you...

    "Consolidating" breakers

I am trying to add new circuits to an existing breaker box. I have a 60 amp feed from my house to a detached garage. I have methodically plugged a drop light into all receptacles , watched lights, etc, to map out which breakers control what outlets, lights, and the like (it would have been nice...

    Does 20A + 20A= 40A?

I realize this is a really basic question, but for the life of me I cannot find the answer. If I have 2 hot wires, each coming off a separate 20A single pole breaker, and run them to a 220V receptacle (with a ground of course), do I in fact have a 40A circuit? Logic tells me no, but I need...
