Sanity check, wiring old Grizzly motor

I'm building a dust collector system and using an old 2hp Grizzly Imports motor. I have no idea what it was wired as before I got it. I take it going in is power to the left, power to the right, and ground to the body. For the other side the plate mentions the yellow and nothing about the red...

    WTB: Cod sinker molds

The one that looks like a small tombstone. Hilts molds usually have them for $50 each but they don't have any and don't know when they will get more. I could use 1, 2, 3, and 4 pound molds. To the idiot scammers, please stop I don't care if your uncle/brother/dad/granpa has them. Your 0 day...

Replacement thermal breaker for Delta RAS

The thermal breaker on my Delta radial arm saw has a broken leg... What would be a suitable replacement? The broken one is a Klixon with the nomenclature CGJ52CD on the back. eBay has tons of klixon thermal breakers, except that they have different nomenclatures which I'm guessing is for...

What's the difference between the HF air angle grinder

    Junction box sanity check

This weekend I'm running two wires to the upstairs of the garage, one for lights, one for outlets. The lights will be on 14 to supply the 3 or so amps for the 40 Watt LED 4' lights will draw. The outlets are 12 wire for 15 amp outlets. The plan is to run the two wires to a 4" junction box from...

    Installing a i beam hoist

At the very least my 10/12 roof was done to widstand the 40 pound per square foot snow loads plus a 110mph wind load, so when none of those two are happening it should still be fairly resilient... see the two attached photos. One third of my second floor is open to the area bellow to...

    Powering a 12v whinch from 120v

is there a high amperage transformer that would let me run a 12v whinch form regular household electrical power? I have a 4-wheeler which that I would like to fabricate into a ceiling hoist with an I-beam.

PSI rating of replacement safety valve on compressor

The safety valve on my 140PSI 60-gallon compressor is leaking, Campbell Hausfeld Ironforce series. I think common sense is 10% higher than what it is rated for? That would round up to 155PSI. The closest I see at the store is 165psi, or around 18% over. Yay? Nay?

    Designing a dust collection system

I recently picked a used Grizzly 2hp dust collector, which should be a great starting point for making a two stage cyclone dust collector. Currently it has a 5" intake, I plan on opening it up to 6" so I can have 6" - 5" - 4" metal ducts working their way down to the machines. On them the focus...

    Wiring a 3-way switch for a 240v compressor

I have wired 3-way switches to regular 120v lights. The question is, would a 240v circuit be any different? I would like to put my 2HP/9amp on a 3-way switch so I can turn it on from either upstairs or downstairs. The other option would be to wire one of these on the compressor, and use the...

    Sanity check on 240v outlet...

This should be a quicky for anybody that knows what they are doing :D I'm wiring a 30amp breaker for my compressor. The 10 gauge wire is black, white, and bare ground. Obviously black and white go into the 30 amp breaker but do I put the bare to the neutral bar or the ground bar?

    Linotype!

I never thought it would happen but it did... I have more linotype that I'll ever need. I got a hold of a print shop closing down on warehoused equipment and let's just say my enthusiasm got the best of me.... Currently I'm breaking it down into manageable ingots as pictured (photo lifted off...

Are all 3 phase variable speed?

May be a silly question but I'm not familiar with them at all. I would like to use one on an old Delta lathe for the promised variable speed and more even torque across the RPM range.

This is why I put up with Craigslist

I just brought this home. I was a tad late to the party but you know how flaky Craigslist buyers can be, several calls and the person that was supposed to come over was ghosting him. I told him I was as respectful of his time as I was of my own so he said he would give that dude until noon. At...

    Compressor: Worst deal ever?

I was browsing the local CL tool section when I came across a $1,500 compressor. I figure for that kinda money it has to be all sorts of awesome so let's click on it. It is an 80 gallon, 220v 3 phase. Where it gets weird is that the motor itself is only 1.5hp. I'm thinking maybe the 3 phase does...

I accidentally picked up a craftsman shaper

Like in the picture... I went to pick up a generic 15" planer, same casting as just about every other 15" planer out there with the motor on top. He had this shaper on a shop made 8' table. As we were loading the planer he kept lowering the price until it became "$50 bucks and we can load it up...

Does it makes sense to sand with an air tool?

I got me a 5hp/60-gallon/13.5CFM@90psi/140psi max air compressor so I could sand blast, paint, run some nailers, impact wrenching, and clean my shop with the air nozzle. I was looking at some sweet orbital sanders until I realized that effectively I would be running a 22AMP @ 240v palm sander...
