    Everybody's got some Snap-On...

My one and only snap on tool is a small flathead screwdriver, that an old boss gave to me. I use it as a tiny pry bar.

    Cool bearing installation tool set

In my world of "job site work", it would go further... typically a torch.

    Cool bearing installation tool set

I spent a few years at a couple motor shops (granted, I was the machinist, so I only installed bearings if we were short handed with mechanics usually), and we were usually doing MUCH larger motors, but... You guys never heard of a bearing heater? If boss man saw somebody beating a brand new...

Has anyone ever paid retail for a Kennedy tool chest?

I've paid as much as 250 (shipped) for an 11 drawer machinist box, and as little as $20 for a super clean little cantilever box. My most recent was $300 for an 8 drawer bottom, 11 drawer top, and small hand box, sold the 2 smaller ones for $200. Honestly, their machinist/top boxes are great...

Obvious tool hacks that you never thought of

I'll do you one better I tack weld a washer onto my chuck keys, and put one of the retractable keychains on the drill press. The chuck key is now never more than 2 feet away from the drill press, ever. But it still can't get wrapped up by accident.

    Show us your handplanes

I'd try giving a couple half assed knocks with a soft mallet on the sole and cheeks (carefully of course) and see if it doesn't come free

    The Tiny Tools Thread

Mine can't quite beat that, but I picked up this head on ebay a while back and made a handle for it. I find it strangely handy sometimes. These 2 little hand planes (and in particular the square) are also surprisingly useful. I bought the Veritas block plane mostly for models, but it even saw...

How do you store your tools, hitches, & ratchet straps in your truck?

Old thread... but here's what I put in my truck. Welded this up to fit, had it powdercoated, and installed 4 riv-nuts in the bed so it's easy to put in/take out. Sits inside the wheel well so I can still slide a full sheet of plywood in. Big enough for a basic tool kit, plenty of straps/bungees...

    Rechargeable soldering iron suggestions?

I think the TS101 is looking like a good option. 120 -> 24v for the shop, and USB for when I'm away from an outlet.

How to Fix a broken HF Tool

Everyone who says "toss it" here probably has a drawer with 100 cheap *** screwdrivers and 30 pairs of rusted out wrenches that will never see the light of day, so take that with a grain of salt.

Help me organize THIS drawer…,Part 2

Step 1 is get rid of 3/4 of it, or put them in a box where you know they are, in case you "need" them. Honestly, if you have 2 of every size, that's enough. It's hard to get rid of tools, but at some point, you're never going to use most of them.

    Let's Share Non-Obvious Tool Tricks

Not sure if what exactly you're thinking of, but "rule", often times called a "scale" in the machine shop, or a "ruler" by most... I've never seen an adjustable ruler.

Yeah, but like I said earlier, I only have Dewalt and Hilti tools.

    Rechargeable soldering iron suggestions?

Looks like the Pinecil/powerbank or one of the ones that fits on a Dewalt battery are probably the 2 best options. I guess it probably comes down to which form factor you like, although the Pinecil does seem to have a lot of rave reviews. Thanks guys
