    My 36x48x14.5' Build Thread

More pictures of wrapping and hanging windows. Got the wife out there to help hang and seal windows. Again a lot faster with two people! This was before I reminded her we have 5 more windows and two man doors to go still. Just in time for the weather!

    My 36x48x14.5' Build Thread

Sheeting and wrapping went smoothly and was a major relief to get a roof on as it gets closer to rainy season. I went with 7 roof vents, probably overkill but I figured it couldn't hurt anything to over do it vs under vent it.

    My 36x48x14.5' Build Thread

I decided to hire out a crane and a couple guys to fly the trusses. Went pretty smoothly and they were up a lot faster then if I was up there.

    My 36x48x14.5' Build Thread

Wall raising day came after I was able to coordinate it with the help of about 10 buddies and lots of beer. Everything went smoothly and the building even squared up, first victory. When I started framing on the ground I was concerned because the walls looked really short, that quickly changed...

    My 36x48x14.5' Build Thread

With the concrete drama behind me it was time to start framing. Disclaimer here I have never framed in my life but after multiple trips down the road to look at new construction homes I figured what the hell cant be that complicated! Luckily help from a neighbor on occasion and I was able to get...

    My 36x48x14.5' Build Thread

I hired a buddy with a mini and on the evenings we worked to move dirt and prep for the concrete. I ended up hiring a concrete company to pour the foundation and flat worked. Didnt think learning flatwork on this kind of job was appropriate. In the end they did a good job and its damn tough work.

    Shear Wall Blocking

Palm nailer! Didnt think about that, there is my excuse for buying one haha. Or toe nail it...just thought it wouldn't look as clean. On the toe nail side should I start on the block end and nail into the stud?

    Shear Wall Blocking

Had my first framing inspection and failed because my engineering calls for all shear walls to be blocked at panel edge to satisfy nailing pattern. The walls are 14.5' tall so there is two sheets to reach top. So my question is how do I block the walls at the panel edge now that the walls are...

Bathroom In The Shop...Yes or No????

I made a last minute decision to add rough in plumbing before I had the pad poured. Plumbed in a 1" water line and then a toilet/drain and vent line. Dug under the foundation and stubbed it out a couple feet. Also put a cleanout/RV dump on the outside wall. $30 in parts and some digging. The...

    Framing bottom plate

Yep those are pictures of two different garages about a mile a part. I think I am just going lay PT board, bolt down and then notch the bottom plate of the wall to fit over the nut extending on the PT board.

    Framing bottom plate

The gaps are for the anchor bolts but it seems like a lot of extra work to me.

    Framing bottom plate

That was my thought, I have seen this in two separate houses yesterday. I will continue to look at others being framed. What is the conventional method? Frame to the PT and lift the wall over the bolts and secure?

    Framing bottom plate

Going to start framing this week on the shop and I have a question on the bottom plate. I was under the assumption that using the PT board as the bottom board for framing was standard but after looking at couple houses close to me that are being framed they have a double bottom plate with T&G as...

    Shop sketch input

Never thought about a skylight, I like that idea. The reason for the man door on the end is because it faces the house and will be the main access from residence also a future patio area. Yes I am planning on putting in a two post lift.
