Tomorrow morning I am looking at a unique property in Greensboro, NC. It has this unusually nice carport. My issue is I need an enclosed, secure garage. It's 24x24, so it's decent size, and has a room above it.
I'm thinking the easiest and least expensive way to turn it into a garage is to...
Thanks for the input everyone. I have a qualified beach home builder, one I know that just built a friends house on the beachfront to current codes, coming next week to give us his opinion and hopefully come up with a satisfactory repair. I don't think the wood is rotting. Those pictures were...
I have found living at the beach that nearly everything corrodes. A lot of SS screws corrode. Some SS doesn't. My guess is that nearly 30 years was the useful life of those hangers!
It is a 2x2 we originally added, not a 1x1 as I said by accident. The galvanized hangers met beach town code nearly 30 years ago. No doubt the best solution is to replace the hangers and bring up to current code... but we can not afford to do that now. The galvanized hangers that are there now...
I was wondering if we would need to move the trim to piece in the 2X6 or 4X6. Sounds like you think we should. Probably right. Maybe we would not even need additional trim. We could just paint the new pieces and call it a day. Thank you for your response.
Ok, this is not a garage... but it is a construction/repair question that I thought someone here could provide some input on. It could easily apply to a garage!
These pics are the underside of staircase landings on an older 6 pack condo I own at Carolina Beach, NC. There are six of these...

Well, I decided to break the bank and buy the small one. The finish and construction is pretty nice, despite clearly saying "Made in China" right on the tool.
Somewhat surprisingly, it works great! It is more secure, in my opinion than double wrenching. I'm not promoting the product at...
You can watch the 'Eric the car guy" video that is included in that link, under the "Videos" tab. It seems to work. I wonder how easy it is to "slip" and become a knuckle buster? Maybe it just locks up just fine? Eric wouldn't mislead us, would he?!
Anyone familiar with this tool?

Eric The Car Guy did a recent tool review on it. I'm not sure the average mechanic or DYI would need the larger ones, but the 9" one seems like it could be handy not just for more breaking leverage on tough bolts, but...
I am thinking of a future project in the GSO area also. Could you please share in round numbers the $$ you have in the entire project? The building, site prep, exterior pad, electrical, plumbing, the whole enchilada in round numbers.
I am 60, son of an engineer/mechanic. I have many of my father's tools (RIP) and every tool I ever bought that didn't break, and most that broke were under warranty so I have the replacement. Probably been through more drills and dremel tools than any thing else! I think the only tool I ever...
Re: Pex crimp tool advicew
That expander is a very interesting tool! However, it appears it would be difficult or awkward to use for in-wall pipe connections between studs in tight spots.... where cutting a pipe, putting a ring on it and crimping may be much easier? Maybe I am wrong. From...
Just plumbed a water softener in my condo that has Pex pipe borrowing a crimp tool. Want to buy one of my own. I see you can buy different wrenches for different sizes, or a kit that has inserts for different size pipe. The latter sounds good because I have all sizes covered... but do those...
